"I’m interested in the special effects of ornamentation, and the idea that you can be in awe of such intensive embellishment, only to realize it is made from cheap materials or seemingly decaying parts. It’s that moment of wonder followed by horror. The silicone is shiny and glittery, yet visibly resembles open flesh. The carnivalesque is a huge influence on my work. It’s about celebration and indulgence as a rebellion against order, rules, and social expectations."
