Kat looked out the window and saw what woke her up. She saw how the light danced through the sky, the noise that followed. The trees swayed in the wind and the leaves were flying through the air but all she really saw, in her mind's eye, was the villagers anger at her, at the way that she couldn't control her powers. She dug herself into her closet, covering her ears and pretending that there wasn't anything going on outside. She hid her face in her knees, trying and trying to even out her breathing. She counted from ten, she counted from ten many times, it didn't seem to work. She tried to think about happier times but then that didn't help. The light was still noticeable from inside her closet. The door shook with the force of the winds, as did everything else. She didn't know why she was even living in the forest when she knew that something like this would always happen. The noise of the thunder grew louder from before. That’s when Kat knew something was going to happen. The only warning she got was a slight crack in the ground and then she was falling, the wind pulling her hair and clothes and biting at her skin. She landed with a thud on the ground and then moved away in time when she saw that her little tree house as rapidly moving towards the ground. Her back against a tree trunk, hair plastered to her face, her ears ringing from the force of the winds, Kat knew she was in shock but then who wouldn't be? Everything from the day she was thrown out of her home town to now always led to something that she didn’t want to acknowledge. She was alone. She was alone in the world where people are needed to be strong. She had no one and she will never have anyone. She will live a long life but she will live it alone and that was what broke her staring contest with her ruined house. The tears that ran down her cheeks were salty when she ran her fingers over them. Kat knew she had to move one but she could move from her position on the ground and knew everything would be over in a while.
