He was perfect.

The perfect boyfriend ever.

He brought you on dates, gave you plenty of gifts, loved you proudly and loudly and didn't make you uncomfortable..

So why did you think of that one night stand instead?

It happened in a random night, you were staying at your childhood best friend's house. His huge house.

You were friends for as long as you could remember. He understood you like no one else did. You shared billions of inside jokes. And his sisters considered you as member of their family.

You were spending the night, watching horror movies. You hated those, but they were his favourite, but the way his eyes would lit up when you'd agree to watch them made it worth it.

You were curled up together, not in a flirty way, you were always so close together, physically and emotionally.

Then a jumpscare appeared on the screen, making you hide into his shoulder, hiding your face from the screen while he laughed. 'You're scared?'

You frowned and looked up at him while he was already looking down at you.

'I just didn't expect that..' you mumbled, your heart racing from the scare, and from something else you couldn't quite name yet as you looked at him.

He chuckled, but quickly his chuckle softened as he kept looking at you, his green eyes melting into your gaze, you felt seen.

'Don't like being surprised?'' he asked calmly, his eyes darting from your eyes to your lips.

Your eyes did the same, but they remained on his lips as you muttered 'Depends on the surprise.'

'I've got an idea of a surprise you'd like.' He smiled as he leaned in, putting his lips onto yours.

You heart practically exploded, you didn't know it, but you were practically waiting for a kiss to happen between you two.

The kiss led on to something bigger, and the next thing you knew was that you woke up in his bed.

It was too perfect wasn't it?

Sleeping with your childhood best friend...while you had hidden feelings from him.

It could've led to a beautiful relationship, and you knew it.

So why were you dating someone other than him?

That one boy from your class liked you, and everyone knew it. He was the golden boy of your college, and it seemed like you'd caught his attention.

Lucky you, huh?

Josh didn't spoke to you about that night. In fact, after that night he didn't speak to you at all.

But that night was burned into your mind. That one night where he held you so gently, where he made sure to please you and where he cuddled you after everything.

You wanted to talk about it. But everytime you brought up the subject he'd move it to something else, or pretended to be busy.

So you took the opportunity to date the golden boy to forget about him.

Everyone was so happy for you two.

Your new boyfriend was happy.

But were you?

You relationship was dreamy. You'd spend time stuck to each other, like those disgustingly cute couples you'd see in those Christmas rom-com.

The ones who finished each other's sentences, who looked at each other with loving gaze and of course who wore matching necklaces with each other's initials on it (his idea not yours)

Beth and Hannah, your close friends and Josh's sisters, weren't buying it.

They were rooting for you and Josh to end up together. To finally put the 'childhood best friend' act to the side and finally date.

At one point, you couldn't even say that Josh was your best friend anymore. And to add to that you were hanging out with your boyfriend's group of friend instead of your old friends.

And Beth noticed it quickly.

One day, you were in class, and honestly? You were about to burst out crying.

Everything came crashing into your while in English class.

Your boyfriend who you didn't even seem to have feelings for, your childhood best friend who'd you slept with and who seems to have cut contacts with you, and your grades who were slipping due to your mental health degrading.

You asked your teacher to go to the bathroom and while in it you paced around like a caged animal.

You were totally having a mental breakdown.

After a moment, you weren't back in class, so the teacher asked someone to go check up on you, and that someone was Beth.

She walked into the bathroom and immediately spotted you over the sink, absolutely sobbing your eyes out.

She rushed over to you and tried to comfort you, but you couldn't help it and told her everything.

It started with 'I can't handle it anymore--' and it ended with '--I miss Josh so much.'

Tears flowed in your eyes, the pain was unbearable.

You missed your best friend. And it didn't even seem like he missed you back.

Josh acted so indifferent. He kept joking with everybody, he kept flirting with other girls but he didn't even spare one glance at you.

After calming your sobs down, Beth's heart ached for you.

She needed to bring you and her brother back together, as a couple or even just as friend.

So this time she was the one organising a weekend in her parent's lodge.

Her excuse ?

'Exams are making us drift apart so we need to get closer, like before !'

Everyone knew the real reason.

Because EVERYONE in your friend group saw the way you and Josh looked at each other.

But you talked about this weekend to your boyfriend, and of course, like the perfect boyfriend cliché he was; he didn't want to let you go alone in the mountains.

So he came with you.

Everyone looked okay with it though.

After all, your boyfriend was THE golden boy.

How could they say no to him? (they totally could but they wanted to have a lot of drama during this weekend)

The weekend finally arrived, and immediately when you knocked on the door of the lodge, Josh was the one to answer it.

You awkwardly said hi, but your boyfriend didn't catch the awkwardness and gave Josh a high five.

Your friends were all gathered in front of the fire, trying to catch a bit of warmth during this harsh winter.

Your boyfriend told you to join them while he'd unpack both of your stuff in the room you shared.

You said hi to everyone, hugging them after not doing so for so long while mumbling a bunch of 'I missed you''s

The night arrived quickly, and the alcohol started to flow rapidly.

Beth and Hannah had their eyes on you and their brother. But it looked like a magical force was pushing you away from each other.

At one point you excused yourself from the party, saying that you had to go to the bathroom.

But instead you walked to you room,locked the door and absolutely bursted out crying.

Josh didn't make any efforts to talk to you, and honestly you didn't blame him. How could he? Your boyfriend's arm was basically always around your waist all night!

As you were crying, someone knocked on the door.

'I'm busy' you said, your shaking voice betraying you.

The doorknob shook, the person clearly wanted to see you. Walking towards the door you say your boyfriend's name followed by 'I'm not in the mood.'

But it wasn't your boyfriend who answered.

It was Josh.

'I heard you sobbing.'

You put your forehead against the door, your hand on the lock, a second away from unlocking the door.

But your hand stood frozen.

'What do you want?' you asked tiredly

You heard a soft thud against the door. He put his forehead against it too.

'I can't stop thinking about you.' he started with a shaky laugh 'I tried to forget about you, i really did. But it seems like you did it better.'

You laughed bitterly at his jab.

Yeah, you did it better...at least it's what everyone thought.

You didn't answer.

A heavy silence settled between you two.

Josh sighed and took off his forehead from the door as he mumbled a simple 'sorry'

As you heard his steps walking away, you quickly unlocked the door and opened it.

'When I'm with him, I am thinking of you.' you blurred out

He paused and turned around, a single tear sliding off his cheek. He quickly wiped it off and walked towards you.

He took your face in his hands and kissed you in a hurry, knowing you two could get caught at any moment.

When you quickly got out of air and broke the kiss, he looked deep into your eyes and smiled.

Then someone called out his name from downstairs and he said 'I have to go.' with a small smile, kissing your forehead.

And as he walked away, you couldn't help but to smile too.

After all, Beth's plan worked,

And you really thanked her for it.
