Sonntag

Trotz aller Annehmlichkeiten konnte ich in meinem Hostelbett nur wenig Schlaf finden, und so stand ich um 7 Uhr auf, um mir den Sonnenaufgang anzuschauen. Es war toll. Nach dem Frühstück fuhren wir wieder los, diesmal nach Cape Reinga mit den Zwischenstopps Pukeki Kauri Forest und Ninety Miles Beach. Der Kauri Wald war unfassbar, ich entfernte mich nur fünf Meter von den anderen und war plötzlich verschlungen. Ich konnte den Himmel nicht sehen, und kein Geräusch drang zu mir vor durch den Mantel aus Bäumen. Dort muss ich unbedingt mal mit mehr Zeit und festeren Schuhen (ich trug Flip Flops) hin.

Der Ninety Miles Beach war, wie der Name schon sagt, vor allem eins: lang. Endlos lang, um genau zu sein, denn vor lauter aufgewirbeltem Sand sah man weder Anfang noch Ende. Es ist ziemlich beliebt dort mit dem Auto über den Sand zu fahren, was ich ganz schön sinnlos finde, und nervig für Fußgänger wie uns. Trotzdem unfassbar sehenswert!

Das Highlight des Tages war definitiv Cape Reinga, der nördlichste Punkt Neuseelands. Es gibt nur eine Straße, die dort hinführt, und teilweise sieht man kilometerweit keinerlei Zivilisation, nur ewige, hügelige Felder mit Kühen und Schafen. Dort angekommen ist der Ausblick einfach toll, man kann beobachten, wie sich der Pazifik und die Tasmansee treffen, es gibt einen Leuchtturm und es ist, wie der Großteil von Neuseeland, einfach atemberaubend. Der Wind bläst einem ins Gesicht, man fühlt sich wie am Ende der Welt und will nur die Arme ausbreiten und schreien, weil alles so frei und weit ist. Einfach unfassbar und unbeschreiblich.

Wir hatten eigentlich auf ein Dorf und etwas zu essen gehofft, aber nichts da. Also sind wir auf dem Rückweg in ein Diner und haben im Auto Kumara Chips und Käsetoast gegessen, eine der besten Mahlzeiten die ich je hatte.
