I feel super bad not participating in Kubo appreciation week which is a huge thing for me but I wasn’t really willing to be on tumblr...but hey! It’s all chill! So have these doodles I did, whatever about the colors I don’t care it’s late and I just needed to draw my favorites from the film out. So yes. This is my chibi style lol

Day 6: Hanzo’s Fortress

It’s such a tragedy that Hanzo had lost all of his memories - most especially, of his time spent at that fortress. From plotting to kill a god to seeing the birth of his child, he had the most significant experiences of his life there. That fortress became more than a military outpost; it was the home of his family. And it was supposed to keep them safe.

With that cheery thought in mind, I drew this fanart to be set just moments before the Moon King attacked. It’s quite bittersweet to me.

Day 1: Mortal’s Point

Let's start at the beginning. After Sariatu escapes from her Sisters and Grandfather, she ends up taking refuge inside a cave atop Mortal's Point. It's where she raises Kubo, and tells her child stories of his (supposedly) late father Hanzo, during his childhood. But as days turn into weeks and months and years, Sariatu's memories are beginning to fade, and Kubo ends up taking care of her later on, as he grows up.

Day 3: Spirits’ Gate

“Hello father. I hope you’re well. Uh. I mean, I know you’re dead, but I hope everything is ... okay.”

Day 4/5: Hall of Bones/ Garden of Eyes

I decided to merge these two prompts because they have that one subject matter (other than my OTP) that I am obsessed about: the origin story of the armour. There is no canon lore for us to refer to. Which is why a prequel might be a good idea. But we do have Japanese Shintoism.

My best guess is that it was created by Amaterasu, the Shinto sun goddess. She would be the Sun Queen in Kubo’s world. Day and night can’t meet so if any conflict should arise, Amaterasu would need a proxy warrior to fight the Moon King for her. Hence, she created the armour. But she couldn’t just give it to any samurai. She needed the best of the best to fight her war. So, she created a series of tests and hid the armour away, hoping that eventually a worthy samurai would come forth.

Guess who abandoned her plan to divert all of her time this week into drawing fanart for Day 6: Hanzo’s Fortress and instead decided to allocate some of that time to draw the other five prompts because screw time management.

Day 2: The Sun Village

My second favourite puppet is the dragon (the fire chicken is number 1, haha). It’s only shown for a moment but I love how much personality its puppeteer puts into it when he reacts to Kubo.

Day 7: Free Day
