Kay Adams "Little Pink Mack"
so don't mess around if you're lookin' for a race / to be wiped out by a girl would be a disgrace / 'cause I cut my baby teeth on a set of Spicer gears / I'm a gear-swappin' mama and I don't know the meaning of fear
If you don't pay close enough attention, you might think this is a Wanda Jackson look-alike sounding like Connie Smith. But you'd be happily mistaken to know it's the spunky, Kay Adams from Vernon, Texas (the same hometown of Roy Orbison). She's a country songstress that people sometimes seem to forget, so she's a perfect choice for today's post.
Much like Loretta Lynn and Kitty Wells, Kay made history for women in country music. In 1966, she recorded Little Pink Mack, becoming the first female to sing about truck driving. She even had a response song to the popular, Six Days On The Road, made famous by Dave Dudley. I couldn't tell you if any of these songs were penned by Kay herself, but it doesn't make them any less awesome. Roll on, Miss Kay!
