Steel Wit Records
circa 1100s
The reigning Steel Fang pack is pleased to put in the records that the coup against Alpha Terro has been successful. Faced with the combined strength of the entirety of the pack, Terro willingly accepted exile, and was escorted to the border by Arcat, the Beta. The position for Alpha was claimed by Kaysi, with the decision seconded by her cousin Factora. Kaysi was immediately challenged by Terro’s brother Saphir, and Kaysi accepted. Their fight was tiring, but Kaysi prevailed and Saphir yielded. However, the instant Kaysi turned her back, Saphir tried to attack her by stabbing her in the back. Fortunately, our Alpha’s reflexes were swift, and she retaliated with a Movement spell that slammed Saphir into a pillar, snapping his neck and killing him instantly. There were no further challenges, and we eagerly await confirmation of Kaysi’s competence in the future.

Intro to Stephanie’s Family
In 1960, Elena Ambriz was born in the small town of San Angel, Mexico. Her mother was a housewife and her father worked out in the fields. She is one of sixteen children. Her family lived on a ranch that held cows, pigs, and chickens and had a big kitchen and only two bedrooms. She believes that Mexico is prettier than the United States and has fond memories of camping and going to school. She also used to go to the celebration for Saint Isitron in San Angel and a picnic on November 1st. At eighteen, she married her husband. They have a total of four children together. Elena’s family decided to come to the United States in 1985 because there were few jobs available in Mexico and the wages were small. She was afraid to come to the states at first because she did not know anybody. They first moved to Gardena, California but eventually moved out to Long Beach because their fourth child, Stephanie, was going to be born. Elena has worked a number of jobs including working as a housekeeper, at a perfume stand, at a car oil company, and a laundry company. She likes that the United States is more fast-paced than Mexico but does miss the freedom and nature of Mexico. Her least favorite thing about Mexico is the lack of jobs and poor pay. When asked if she considers herself an America, she said that though she practices American traditions, she does not consider herself an American because she knows where she comes from.

Kaysi’s Family
In my family’s borderland community of Fountain Valley, the social relationships are very prominent. For example, most of my extended family lives in or around Fountain Valley. My aunt and uncles’ families, as well as my own, are all less than fifteen minutes away from my grandparent’s home. Our entire family always gets together for any birthdays, holidays, or any random occasions because of our close proximity to each other. The entire family gets along incredibly well and is always available for family dinners and any potential get-togethers. In addition, my grandparents are very involved at church. My grandfather has been a deacon at his church for years and my grandmother used to help out with bookkeeping there. They make sure to go to church every Sunday morning and any special services like the ones that take place on Christmas Eve. They also do devotions together often throughout the week. Because of how active they are within their church community, they know everybody who goes there and have been friends with many people from their church for many years. Fountain Valley is a very diverse and welcoming city that features people from all walks of life.
The cultural expressions of my family include holiday celebrations, religious beliefs, and heritage. My family celebrates all of the traditional American celebrations such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our traditional Thanksgiving celebration closely follows the mainstream American way of celebrating with an early dinner of turkey, a plethora of side dishes, and sparkling cider. For Christmas Eve we always get together at my grandparent's house for dinner and to watch the family videos that have become a tradition for my cousin and I to make. On Christmas morning, after each family individually celebrates at home, the entire family goes back to my grandparent's house for breakfast, opening presents, and then we usually disperse or watch some Christmas films and come back together for dinner. My family is also very religious. Before being married to my grandmother, my grandfather was not religious but he became a Christian after meeting her. My entire family has been raised Christian and have all been involved in the church. My grandparents both do devotions and help out in the community through church. They raised their children in the Christian faith and it has been passed down. Many of my family members are involved in helping out within their churches and it definitely makes up a lot of who my family is. In addition, my family is a mix of different European ethnicities but we mostly identify as Scottish. Though we do not necessarily participate in Scottish traditions, my great-grandfather was very proud of his heritage. Though the rest of my family is also proud of where we come from, we have never really done anything to embrace our Scottish culture.
Lastly, in terms of socio-economic status, my grandparents live in a decent sized, one story home. Most of the homes in Fountain Valley have a similar layout to theirs. The homes are modern and simple. In California, the main stores my family will go to for food are Ralph’s or Albertson’s, they shop at Target and Kohl’s, and the restaurants they frequent vary between all types of food. Both my grandfather and grandmother are currently retired but they both have worked a variety of jobs including working in a shipping yard, at Boeing, in a mortuary, and serving in the Army. When my grandparents were younger, they struggled more to make ends meet but they always pulled through. They are not extremely wealthy but they earned a lot of money over the years and have been smart with their money. Fountain Valley is truly a nice area and is a distinct borderland community.
