#russia #kazan #city #cityscape #street #building #discovercity #olympus #olympus_ru #olympuspenf #architecture #church #mosque #religion #Kremlin #kazankremlin #history #travel #travelphotography #trip #natgeoru #natgeotravel #natgeotravelru #россия #казань #казанскийкремль https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwz_vjIDGuh/?igshid=1opj7z8qe8gnr

SÖYEMBIKÄ TOWER Söyembikä tower also known as Khan’s Mosque and is the highest architectural structure in Kazan, Tartarstan-Russia. It’s also known as the leaning tower of Russia, in early 1900’s it almost inclined 198 centimetres and lot of technical stabilisation methods were used so it didn’t lean any further. Now coming to the more darker or juicier story, this monument was built by Ivan the terrible for the Queen of Tartarstan Söyembikä on her request. Legend goes when Ivan captured the queen, killed her husband and wanted to marry her, she demanded Ivan to build the tallest tower in Russia before she married her. The structure was built in just 6 days. On the day of their marriage, she asked to visit the tower and claimed to the top and jumped, killing herself. The tower was named after her in her honour. Isn’t it so dramatic, all the juicy history and stories behind such historical structures. When: Circa 2018 Where: Kazan Cremlin, Kazan-Russia @kazankremlin Traveller Tip: It’s a huge complex with each building having tremendous stories and dark secrets. Do hire a guide, makes it easier to connect as the writing on the walls and structure are mostly Russian #russia #travelrussia #kazan #kazankremlin #soyembika (at Söyembikä Tower) https://www.instagram.com/p/CD1F_YpFgFZ/?igshid=1tqqfgtdyqs4k
