Buffy, Fringe, Smallville, and X-Files (and others) all started as Monster of the Week shows because it's easier to get audiences to check out an episode in the first season when they don't have to have seen all the previous eps to enjoy the hour. So it's possible they're working toward a long term game but trying to build the viewing audience first. So maybe it'll shift?
those are all excellent examples of shows i have a really hard time getting invested in. maybe that style works for other people, but for me, if there isn't anything to sink my teeth into then i'm not interested.
whats even more frustrating about blindspot is that it sells it self as a "treasure map" show, but there isn't anything they're leaving for the audience to figure out. there is no puzzle that we are supposed to solve as the charters evolve, because it's not a story telling show, it's just another cop procedural.
