What makes a Soulmate? - Chapter 1 - tigereyes45 - Kingdom Come: Deliverance (Video Games) [Archive of Our Own]
This is a gift I wrote for @wheel-of-whimsy for the KCD Gift Exchange hosted by @kcd-exchange.
Summary:
In a world where souls are reincarnated and can only regain their memories of past lives upon touching their soulmate, Henry's parents set out to help him with the man they believe to be Hans.
Preview of the fic:
“Your pa’s soul is a glutton,” Sara jokes as she sets down a plate of cookies covered in homemade icing in front of the eighty, and seven year olds.
“Wasn't it strange?” Samuel asks, his gaze turned towards Martin and Sara.
“It can be in the way that all new relationships are,” Sara answers, leaning close. She runs a finger over the soft icing of the top cookie. With a grin she playfully pokes Samuel’s nose. The boy rolls his eyes and folds his arms trying to look serious. As Sara turns to do the same with Henry, eight-year-old Samuel wipes the icing off his nose and licks it.
“How many soulmates can one person have?” Henry questions, wiping his nose clean before licking all the icing off the palm of his hand. Samuel grabs his wrist and wipes a towelette across Henry's palm. Henry doesn't fight him. He seems perfectly content to let his brother clean his hands.
“Who knows?” Radzig asks with a shrug. “Maybe a different one for every life.”
“Really?” Henry asks, eyes wide with surprise.
“Then what does being a soulmate even mean?” Samuel asks as he moves on to wiping down Henry’s fingers.
The two don’t seem to notice the collective look their parents share.
Anna leans in close now, on the opposite side of the table from Sara. “I know what they say at school, but do you know what I think?”
Both of the boys lean in closer eyes wide and ears pricked up, ready to be let in on a conspiracy.
“I think soulmates are made.”
“What?” Samuel looks skeptical. Why wouldn’t he be? Schools don’t teach such ideas on the subject of soulmates.
