Evening Lovelies;
I know it's so tempting to scroll past but please, pleaze read this.
So tomorrow is the twenty sixth day of the first month of the year, which is a huge day for me. January 26th is Kawasaki Disease Awareness Day.
I acquired this disease when I was 2 years old. It went undiagnosed for nearly a month, which resulted in permanent heart damage. Kawasaki’s is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation of blood vessels around the body. If left untreated, there is an extremely high risk of damage to the coronary arteries of the heart. There is no laboratory test for KD. Diagnosis is based on the appearance of symptoms such as; swollen lips/tongue/eyes/lymph nodes, body rash, high fever, and fatigue. And still, we know very little about this condition, other than classic symptoms and treatment options. The cause remains a mystery and there is no way to prevent it.
There’s no way to sugar coat it. I should have died. Death due to KD can occur as soon as 10 days after the onset. Sometimes it goes away, but often patients of self limiting cases pass away due to giant undiagnosed aneurysms.
This is why awareness is critical. Had my parents been more educated on the condition, I may have been diagnosed early and grown up with a normal heart. And my story is not unique. Nearly every child with heart damage as a result of Kawasaki's was turned away. Knowledge of this condition is vital to its destruction.
January 26th may be KD Awareness Day, but for me-its every damn day of my life. So please, if you are able, wear red tomorrow, share information and encourage others to learn more about Kawasaki's, its symptoms, risks, and stories. Thanks lovelies!❤️
