#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK. Day 2: Competence Porn Chae Song Hwa (Hospital Playlist)
KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK | DAY 2 | “I just think she’s neat!”
You really bloomed a beautiful flower. You’re a butterfly. A butterfly for the flowers in my garden. Do you think the butterfly knew? When it dies, it will become a flower. No... Even if you didn’t know, you chose it, for the sake of a flower. This flower bloomed because a dead butterfly fertilized it. It’s a flower you bloomed. You. Now you’re not a butterfly, you’re a flower I’ve made for the first time. My fate is... To live forever in this garden, as a human. You knew all this from the beginning? I didn’t know, but I believed in you. I’m sorry. Save your resentment and regret toward me for later. That child is waiting. I don’t resent you. I’m just... happy.
#kdramawomensweek2020: day 2 - in another world, another time.. ➜ mok hae won x woo bo young (when the weather is fine x a poem a day)
“all the paths lead up to you
all the songs are meant for you
and i’m blinded by your light.”
— to you by lee jong hwa
they would sit next to each other in the classroom and walk past each other in the hallways, but their interactions were few and bo young was never given the chance to be honest about her heart’s yearning for hae won.
but one fine day, somewhere between winter and spring, hae won moves back to their hometown and knocks on the door to bo young’s bookstore.
KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK | DAY 5 | “Can I handle the seasons of my life?”
It's natural to fall ill and die when you're old. Even if you know what's wrong, you'll die. I'll just die not knowing, with no regrets. / You've only turned 70, how can you say that? And I never said rely on your kids. Let them live their lives, and live however you want. Don't you have anything you want to do? / No, do you? / Me... I also can't think of anything! / Life's no fun anymore... My only joy in life is eating a bowl of rice and delicious soup with you... Of course, old friends are best!
KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK | DAY 4 | “FREAKS AND GEEKS” - Women who are losers and outsiders, but who you don’t want to change.
Bonus:
#kdramawomensweek, day 4: all the weirdos and loners ↳ goo se ra (into the ring)
Day 3: “I just think she’s neat!”
As I mentioned in this post I kind of feel in love with the girl god character in Doom at Your Service because the way she was written really reminded me of the way that Terry Pratchett writes about gods. I made some gifsets about it, actually!
The fact that she was always playing the long game, speaking sideways about chance, and basically explicitly saying everything would turn out fine but it wasn’t going to be easy...
Some other quotes that fit her vibes:
Tragic heroes always moan when the gods take an interest in them, but it’s the people the gods ignore who get the really tough deals.
and
There’s a streak of madness in everyone who spends quality time with gods.
and
If the gods looked just like everyone else, he used to say, how would people know how to treat them?
and
Fairy godmothers develop a very deep understanding about human nature, which makes the good ones kind and the bad ones powerful.
But also, anyway, I always love this type of deity in dramas! Calm, collected, has seen it all and knows it all and you can’t surprise them and you can’t worry them. Samshin Grandmother in Goblin comes to mind. Still often times shows aren’t good at getting that omniscience down right -- though Sonyeoshin was not fully omniscient in the show, her power was great and not arbitrary, you could guess she was a few steps ahead of our leads at any time.
She was also ominous enough, but at the same time I believed she really did love our cast of characters in a controlling-mother kind of way. Ultimately, the reason the show maintained tension despite being way too repetitive was because of her character.
But because the she was the personification of the obstacles to the main couple, she was disliked immensely by the tag. Often times in a weird, super-gendered way that painted her as a jealous lover or harpy or b****. She was literally the driving force of the entire show and its plot -- so if you liked the show, you should thank her!! She gave us a good [/ok] time!
Day One KDWW: Female characters who mirror each other in a major way such as (secret) twins or women with the same name or appearance or two female characters in the same K-drama who are written to be the foil to each other.
Don’t talk about her casually! Is Han Yoo Joo your friend or something?! And why aren’t I a good fit for her? Eyy, when you’re in front of her you can’t yell like this, can you? Loser.
