My unpopular two cents on Villanelle’s “You’re Mine!”
I just wanna share some of my thoughts which probably be the most unpopular opinion for 2x08 “You’re Mine”.
Based on Martin’s words in 2x05 about the “I - You” / “I - It” relationships of a psychopath with others.
In my opinion, I think Villanelle said “You’re Mine.” because she feels the “I - You” relationship with Eve. Don’t forget that we’ve been seeing her embraces her feelings for Eve throughout the season. She’s sure she loves Eve. Remember what happened last night in 2x07? They had indirectly intimate phone sex, and they were happy about it. Villlanelle probably thinks Eve’s is hers after they had that phone sex. She might consider that the phone sex making them belongs to each other “I - You”. Not in the sense that Eve is an object that belongs to her (It) but as a person she truly loves.
On the other hand, I personally believe that Eve sees this relationship differently. She sees it as the “I - It”. She think of herself as an “I“ while Villanelle(/Hugo) are “It”. Remember the way she used Hugo as a human sex toy and throw it out the window in the morning after without guilt? She treats Villanelle like an object to be picked up and put down at will. When she wants something from Villanelle, it’s like her picks Villanelle as an object up; let her be close to her, let her express her feelings for her, let her touch her, takes what Villanelle is willing to give. But when Eve’s upset, freaks out, or angry, Villanells is just an object to be put down to her. Eve always treats Villanelle like shit when she’s in those moods; speaking to her harshly like she’s superior than V, doesn’t let V touch her, blame V for every shit she’s done, denied V’s love for her, etc.
What makes me wanna slap some sense into Eve the most is she has an audacity to say that Villanelle doesn’t understand love. Oh really? Does she know about love more than Villanelle? She’s been married and lived with Niko in boredom and unsatisfied sex life for over a decade but never said anything about her feelings, is that LOVE to her?
Eve can say “No.” when Villanelle says “You love me.” but she has no right to say "No.” when Villanelle says “I love you”. She is not her. She doesn’t know how much Villanelle has been suffering because of loving her so much. She’s doesn’t know any better than V about love.
I admit that I’m biased here but I think Eve needs to sort her shits out and stops treating Villanelle like shit or blaming her for everything. I hope she will stop being a selfish dick next season.
