One thing I really admire in writing is when a character is written to be overly loud/showy/exuberant/angry as a defense mechanism in a way that feels honest and earned and doesn’t make it feel like I’m watching for the spectacle. I think it’s kind of a hard line to walk. I wish I was better at articulating what makes characters feel real and unreal but I really cannot focus at all on shows with characters that don’t act believably to me. I think Killing Eve did an amazing job at this with Villanelle.
