its just how their language works

if its similar to chinese (i studied chinese not japanese) there should be separate words/characters to indicate groups of things but there is no slight character alteration (like an extra line) that indicates a plural

like youd add a character to "dog" to make something like "many dogs" but it would just be the character for "dog" still. does that make sense?
