Keeling House, London. Designed by Sir Denys Lasdun in 1954. . I used to look at Keeling House from my old balcony and wonder why this elegant modernist building was built with these strange wing-shaped blocks. . Turns out Lasdun wanted to replicate the social elements of Victorian street life - the overlooking balconies encouraging residents to chat with each other. . This was one of architect, Lasdun’s, earliest projects before he shot to worldwide fame. In 1993 the council voted to demolish Keeling, but it was saved by the private sector. . It became the first post-war council building to receive a Grade II* heritage listing. . Before Lasun's death in 2001, he'd designed dozens of amazing buildings across London...
