Pitt Lane decision - short and long video versions

Decision on Pitt Lane, Appledore at 9.30 AM 16.1.20 by Torridge District Council Plans Committee at Bideford Town Hall.

Result was 4 against, 5 for it. Yet, Chris Leather, Plans Chair and Chair of Northam Town Council's Neighbourhood Plan Committee, didn't even know one of the reports points out there is impermeable rock on the site. IE, rock that causes flooding. That's because no detailed site assessment was done when the site was being looked at for inclusion in the local plan.

Note* Northam Town Council's Neighbourhood Plan Committee is the only Parish in the UK without public participation in their own Neighbourhood Plan, which is the whole point.

Vote: Against: Cllrs. Brown, McGeough, Christie, Boughton. For: Cllrs. Wiseman, Craigie, Lock, Watson, Leather.

Planners and councils don't always know best

Lifelong Appledore resident and Appledore Resident's Association member Jenny Arnold explains the 1971 Devon County Council Grand plan for Appledore which involved bulldozing most of the village despite protests from the 'little people' of Appledore at the time. However fate decided the future via a recession.

The plan was promoted by the council in the form of a brochure shown in the video and in response Appledore Resident's Association was formed which was then called the Appledore Conservation and Preservation Society. 

This is against the background of the Knapp House 58 'holiday homes' development proposal and the lifting of the agricultural tie at Mouna, Bidna lane, both of which have proven controversial.
