This is really great info! Thank you @redandhowling for sharing! Every year millions of birds are killed by our beloved cats. Many of these birds are fledglings (baby birds that don't have all of their flight feathers yet). Fledglings are particularly vulnerable to predators because 1. They stink at flying. 2. They call out loudly and frequently to their parents for food. 3. They are clueless that anything wants to eat them. 4. They can often be found on the ground just hanging around. Be a Baby Bird Avenger! Put bells on your cat's collar. Cats are very clever and learn quickly to keep their heads still as they stalk, so the sound of a bell is reduced. Consider multiple bells and changing out frequently. Tell friends and neighbors to put bells on their cats' collars😬. Keep your cat inside during the day when birds are most active and if this is impossible, at least keep them in during the most vulnerable times for birds: Sunrise, sunset, and right after bad weather. During these high-risk hours its not uncommon to see a fledgling on the ground waiting to be fed by mom and dad. Especially this time of year when baby birds are being born keep an eye on your cats—restrict their time outside and try to supervise them if possible. Other suggestions: spread out bird feeders so that birds can spot a stalking cat more easily. Plant thorny vegetation around areas that birds flock. #fledgling #babybird #keepbirdssafe #protectbirds #redandhowling #protectwildlife
