Let Her Drive
Abby had easy slipped on the white dress over her head before she walked into her closet to get her black high heels. She walked to her bed to sit down and put them on. Wobbling to get her balance on the four-inch heels, she started walking to her vanity for makeup. Once she finished she left the bedroom.
She glanced into the living room to find he was already ready. He wore a blue button up to which he rolled the sleeves and tan skinny jeans with a brown belt to hold them up. To finish the outfit, he wore his white converse.
Abby cleared her throat to gain his attention causing his head to whip to the side and smile. She couldn’t contain her smile as she saw his green eyes brighten at looking her and she knew her hazel eyes had brightened just seeing him too. She really did love him.
Harry cleared his throat. “Ready?” his deep voice carried throughout the room.
Her smile stayed on her face as she nodded watching as he put his arm out for her to take. Gladly, she accepted it without a second thought.
Leaning her head on his muscular arm, she whispered, “Happy 23rd birthday.”
Harry looked down at her and his eyes contained so much love and adoration for her that Abby couldn’t stop herself when she leaned up and pressed her lips to his. Pulling away, she looked into the eyes of the man she will always love and chuckled.
“What?” he whispered, his voice sounding hoarse.
“I just heard my stomach growl,” she chuckled again. His lips curved up into a smile and he took her hand and continued walking to the car.
“Then I guess we should hurry,” he told her still tugging her to the car. When they got there, Harry took the keys out of his front pocket.
“It’s my turn to drive!” Abby spoke excitedly as she reached for the keys. Harry held them above his head chuckling as she still attempted to jump for them. However, Abby wasn’t the best with heels, so her ankle twisted once she landed and she fell to the ground. Or she would’ve if Harry hadn’t caught her by the waist.
“You alright?” he asked her, concern evident in his voice. His eyes held so much worry that Abby forgot about how it was his fault she fell- for a second.
“Yes,” she straightened up, “Now give me the keys. That was your fault,” she told him once she held out her hands waiting for the keys.
Harry looked at her with so much guilt that her heart squeezed at that. “I’m sor-,” he started but Abby cut him off.
“No I’m sorry. It’s your birthday. I should’ve held it in,” she explained and smiled at him to show him she was okay with it and had already forgiven him.
He nodded and got in the passenger side of the car while she went into the driver’s side. Her hands were shaking from excitement at driving the futuristic car.
“Calm down,” Harry’s laugh filled the car when he noticed her hands.
“Shut up,” Abby snapped still not dropping her smile. She was just too excited to be driving this car. “It’s my first time on this side of your car. I have reasons.” Abby put the key in ignition and started the car still buzzing with excitement.
“I feel like you got a present for my birthday,” Harry continued to chuckle, but putting emphasis on the word ‘my’.
Abby chuckled as she swiftly pulled out of the driveway. “Well what do you want for your birthday?” She asked, although she had already got him something for later on.
“For you to scream my name,” Harry winked a green eye at her. This made Abby laugh.
“Oh yeah, because that’s definitely going to happen,” she rolled her eyes sarcastically, but making sure to keep her focus on the road.
She could see him shrugging from the corner of her eye. “You never know,” he said.
“You sound confident about that,” she told him raising an eye brow at her as she stopped in the middle of the intersection. ‘Stupid traffic,’ she thought.
“Well I-,” Harry abruptly cut himself off and stared outside her window. His green eyes had widened and his mouth dropped open. She turned around confused as to what would make him look like that.
The last thing she saw was the bright yellow light heading directly towards her before the pain came. “Harry!” she screamed as the car flipped and Abby held onto the steering wheel with all her might. However, her grip loosened when her head banged into her window.
By the time the car stopped, they were right side up. Abby couldn’t feel anything and she faintly heard the shuffle of Harry next to her.
Immediately, Harry opened his car door-ignoring the pain as he walked- and flung open Abby’s. “Oh my-,” Harry couldn’t finish as he stared at Abby. Her face was covered in blood and he watched as her white dress became stained from the amount of blood covering her. He swiftly pulled out his phone to call 999.
Once he finished, Abby faced him, smiling, but winced as pain erupted through her brain.
“Honey, don’t move. The ambulance will be here any second,” Harry told her gently. Tears built in the corner of his eyes and he let them fall as he looked at the love of his life covered in blood.
Trying to make a joke, Abby chuckled. “At least you got your birthday wish.”
Tears were now falling quickly from his eyes. “I change my mind. I don’t want that. I just want you to be here. Forever. With me.”
Abby didn’t dare to talk. She felt something poking at her lung- most likely a broken rib- and didn’t want to take any risks.
“Please,” Harry sobbed holding her tightly in his arms. “You can’t leave me.”
Harry continued to cry, not caring about the passing by standards who stood worriedly around the accident. He heard the sound of the ambulance on its way. “Baby, please. They’re almost here. Please hold on.”
“I’m trying,” she moaned clutching the side of her ribs as more pain erupted.
Harry rubbed her cheek wiping off the mix of tears and blood.
“Harry,” her American accent clashed with his British one, “I love you. Forever and always.”
“I love you too, Abby,” Harry cried staring straight into her hazel eyes for the last time which were filled with tears- like his- before they closed.
