Let Her Drive
Abby had easy slipped on the white dress over her head before she walked into her closet to get her black high heels. She walked to her bed to sit down and put them on. Wobbling to get her balance on the four-inch heels, she started walking to her vanity for makeup. Once she finished she left the bedroom.
She glanced into the living room to find he was already ready. He wore a blue button up to which he rolled the sleeves and tan skinny jeans with a brown belt to hold them up. To finish the outfit, he wore his white converse.
Abby cleared her throat to gain his attention causing his head to whip to the side and smile. She couldn’t contain her smile as she saw his green eyes brighten at looking her and she knew her hazel eyes had brightened just seeing him too. She really did love him.
Harry cleared his throat. “Ready?” his deep voice carried throughout the room.
Her smile stayed on her face as she nodded watching as he put his arm out for her to take. Gladly, she accepted it without a second thought.
Leaning her head on his muscular arm, she whispered, “Happy 23rd birthday.”
Harry looked down at her and his eyes contained so much love and adoration for her that Abby couldn’t stop herself when she leaned up and pressed her lips to his. Pulling away, she looked into the eyes of the man she will always love and chuckled.
“What?” he whispered, his voice sounding hoarse.
“I just heard my stomach growl,” she chuckled again. His lips curved up into a smile and he took her hand and continued walking to the car.
“Then I guess we should hurry,” he told her still tugging her to the car. When they got there, Harry took the keys out of his front pocket.
“It’s my turn to drive!” Abby spoke excitedly as she reached for the keys. Harry held them above his head chuckling as she still attempted to jump for them. However, Abby wasn’t the best with heels, so her ankle twisted once she landed and she fell to the ground. Or she would’ve if Harry hadn’t caught her by the waist.
“You alright?” he asked her, concern evident in his voice. His eyes held so much worry that Abby forgot about how it was his fault she fell- for a second.
“Yes,” she straightened up, “Now give me the keys. That was your fault,” she told him once she held out her hands waiting for the keys.
Harry looked at her with so much guilt that her heart squeezed at that. “I’m sor-,” he started but Abby cut him off.
“No I’m sorry. It’s your birthday. I should’ve held it in,” she explained and smiled at him to show him she was okay with it and had already forgiven him.
He nodded and got in the passenger side of the car while she went into the driver’s side. Her hands were shaking from excitement at driving the futuristic car.
“Calm down,” Harry’s laugh filled the car when he noticed her hands.
“Shut up,” Abby snapped still not dropping her smile. She was just too excited to be driving this car. “It’s my first time on this side of your car. I have reasons.” Abby put the key in ignition and started the car still buzzing with excitement.
“I feel like you got a present for my birthday,” Harry continued to chuckle, but putting emphasis on the word ‘my’.
Abby chuckled as she swiftly pulled out of the driveway. “Well what do you want for your birthday?” She asked, although she had already got him something for later on.
“For you to scream my name,” Harry winked a green eye at her. This made Abby laugh.
“Oh yeah, because that’s definitely going to happen,” she rolled her eyes sarcastically, but making sure to keep her focus on the road.
She could see him shrugging from the corner of her eye. “You never know,” he said.
“You sound confident about that,” she told him raising an eye brow at her as she stopped in the middle of the intersection. ‘Stupid traffic,’ she thought.
“Well I-,” Harry abruptly cut himself off and stared outside her window. His green eyes had widened and his mouth dropped open. She turned around confused as to what would make him look like that.
The last thing she saw was the bright yellow light heading directly towards her before the pain came. “Harry!” she screamed as the car flipped and Abby held onto the steering wheel with all her might. However, her grip loosened when her head banged into her window.
By the time the car stopped, they were right side up. Abby couldn’t feel anything and she faintly heard the shuffle of Harry next to her.
Immediately, Harry opened his car door-ignoring the pain as he walked- and flung open Abby’s. “Oh my-,” Harry couldn’t finish as he stared at Abby. Her face was covered in blood and he watched as her white dress became stained from the amount of blood covering her. He swiftly pulled out his phone to call 999.
Once he finished, Abby faced him, smiling, but winced as pain erupted through her brain.
“Honey, don’t move. The ambulance will be here any second,” Harry told her gently. Tears built in the corner of his eyes and he let them fall as he looked at the love of his life covered in blood.
Trying to make a joke, Abby chuckled. “At least you got your birthday wish.”
Tears were now falling quickly from his eyes. “I change my mind. I don’t want that. I just want you to be here. Forever. With me.”
Abby didn’t dare to talk. She felt something poking at her lung- most likely a broken rib- and didn’t want to take any risks.
“Please,” Harry sobbed holding her tightly in his arms. “You can’t leave me.”
Harry continued to cry, not caring about the passing by standards who stood worriedly around the accident. He heard the sound of the ambulance on its way. “Baby, please. They’re almost here. Please hold on.”
“I’m trying,” she moaned clutching the side of her ribs as more pain erupted.
Harry rubbed her cheek wiping off the mix of tears and blood.
“Harry,” her American accent clashed with his British one, “I love you. Forever and always.”
“I love you too, Abby,” Harry cried staring straight into her hazel eyes for the last time which were filled with tears- like his- before they closed.
For the Last Time
The boys packed their belongings for the final time and set it down on the ground. “So this is it….” Harry said, trying to run his fingers through his hair which was obviously too heavily hair sprayed. “I’m really gonna miss this.” “I know, Harry,” Louis said, putting his hand on his shoulder and letting his head fall down to try to avoid the thought and stop the tears from falling. “We’ve come so far;” Harry could barely finish the sentence. “it’s a shame to see it end.” “C’mon, boys,” Zayn made his way to where Harry and Louis stood. “It’s time to go.” The pain in his voice was evident as he took out a mirror, checking his hair. The boys looked at him, wanting to smile, but trying to avoid any thought of the amazing memories they’ve shared. They took a few slow steps together, all looking up at one another, trying to make the moment last. It was then that they stepped onto the stage, hearing the insane roaring of the crowd. The boys went through the first portion of the concert like it was just another show. It was Zayn who then walked in front of them with his head held high, trying to be strong. “From the day this band was formed, I knew that my dream was about to come true. I knew that there was something about putting the five of us together that was gonna somehow capture the hearts of millions and millions of people… I was right; i guess. There was something about us that you fell in love with. And believe it or not, we love you just as much as you love us. You guys are literally the reason the rest of the band and myself wake up every morning. You’re the reason we’re here today; you’re the reason that we’re able to stand in front of you today and have the honor of singing for you. So before the boys and I close up our final show, I just wanted you all to know this: We love you. It may be hard to believe, but we love every single one of you more than anything. Maybe we didn’t get to following you on twitter, and maybe we didn’t get to meet every single one of you, but we love you. And we owe you a huge thank you. Thank you for filling our lives with countless outstanding memories. Without you….” It was hard for him to go on, so Harry came up and took over. “Without you, who knows where we’d be, and who knows what we will be. We could be somewhere, anywhere, or maybe even nowhere. But wherever we go, and whatever we see…” Niall took a stand next to Harry. “We will always be the five boys you fell in love with, known as One Direction.” He said, looking into the crowd. The boys stopped and looked at the tears that filled the eyes of every one of their fans. “Don’t dry,” Louis says, “It’ll be alright. There’s no reason to be sad. You’re our fans; you’re stronger than that. Just promise us something…” Zayn took over. “Promise us that none of you will ever let anything come in the way of your dreams. Don’t let the undefined words of others stop you from being the person you were put on earth to be. Stay true to yourself; love yourself, and never feel less than what you truly are: unstoppable. be yourself, and the limitations of your life is limitless. Take new paths. Change your mind, and then change it again because you can. But never let anybody stop you from being who you want to be.” He stopped there. “We love you guys;” tears now filled his eyes. “Thank you.” “My name is Liam Payne;” “I’m Harry Styles;” “I’m Zayn “DJ Malik;” The crowd giggled. “Louis Tomlinson,” “And I’m Niall Horan,” The boys looked at each other as the tears fell down their faces in unison. Knowing this would be the last time they’d ever say this in front of the people that love them, they blew a kiss to the crowd, looked at each other, until finally they said… “And we’re One Direction.” The boys then formed a group hug, making it evident that they were crying. Then, finding it too hard to bare the pain, they took one last look at the audience…. And silently made their way off stage, for the last time.
Experiencing Hell
Bethany’s POV
They were right. They were all right. They told me not to trust him. They told me that he was scum, and make me feel like it too. They told me his little game. They told me everything. But I was stupid enough to push that all aside and fall for him.
My name’s Bethany. I’m 14 years old, and I’m in year nine. But when I was 12 years old in year 7, I experienced hell.
His name was Andrew. I had heard rumours about him. He was the most hated boy in our year. His jokes were hurtful, his acts were offensive and evil, he was just not the kid you would want to associate with.
We were on a school field trip. And my friends in the years above me told me about this place. That it was drama filled, and almost lose your friends. But I was never one to those girls that loses her friends easily. So I didn’t think much about that rumour.
I will never forget day three of the trip. My so called ‘friend’ started a rumour about me and it got around the whole grade. No one talked to me that day. The rumour was horrid, I’m not going to repeat it. Anyway, we had free time for about 20 minutes or so each day, and that day I spent sitting on a hill kind of secluded from everyone.
Excuse me, if I start crying during this, I’m terribly sorry.
I was sitting on the hill with my knees up and my elbows rested on them with my head tucked in. That way I can’t see anyone, and no one could see me. I sobbed quietly to myself until about 10 minutes passed by, and I heard the old leaves crunching around me become louder and louder—someone was coming. I don’t bother to look and see who was approaching. But I yell into my body, “Go away, I don’t want to talk right now.” The person ignored my order, and just sat down beside me wrapping an arm around me and pulling me towards my left to rest against his chest. I knew it was a boy, because I smelled his Axe deodorant. Girls don’t wear that.
He didn’t say anything, he just shushed my tears away and rubbed my back until I sat myself up and wiped my face. That’s when I turned to my left and saw him. I didn’t even think he knew who I was. But he knew I knew him. I tried to not be so mean to him, because I thought what if it was just a reputation and that’s not what he really is?
“Andrew? Why are you here?” I say as I wipe my tears off my stained cheeks.
“I couldn’t help but notice you were all alone here. No one should be alone when we’re on a class trip.”
I didn’t answer. I didn’t want to engage in conversation with him, not after all the years I tried to stay away from him.
“Where are your friends anyway?”
“Don’t act like you don’t know.” The tears somehow managed to continue falling from my eyes and I repeatedly have to wipe them away.
“Mmm.. no I really don’t. What happened?”
“Listen, Andrew, I know you mean well, but I just, I really don’t want to talk about it.” My voice fades out as I stand up and start walking away. Then I realize, where am I going? No one is talking to me, my friends—forget it. I have no where to go. So I end up walking around the whole free time area.
-
It’s the morning we’re leaving, I walk into the cabin building and walk up the stairs and down the hallway and stand outside my room. I hear my ‘friends’ talking and I stand outside to hear. “I know! And she was talking to Andrew. I think Beth has really hit rock bottom,” and I walk in on their laughter. The sight of me shuts them up, but it’s useless because I already heard their conversation. In one swift move, I pick up my luggage and make my way out of the room which I will never see again. We were told to pack up our stuff last night before bed, so we would all be prepared when we left this morning. Since all my friends were huddled together, probably talking about me, I think I was the only one that actually gathered my things last night. I’m the only one standing outside waiting for the buses, faculty and the rest of my grade to meet outside.
-
I put my luggage with the rest of everyone else’s and find a seat on the bus. I sit directly in the middle, and I swear, I’m the first student on my bus. It’s not like I had anything better to do. As the rest of my peers board the bus, my friends one by one pass me and go straight to the back of the bus. I just plug in my iPod and tune out everyone. Then I feel the seat next to me dip down, indicating someone’s sitting next to me. I turn my head and take out a headphone. It’s Andrew. I put my headphone back in.
“Oh, come on. Don’t be like that.” he says to me trying to resist me putting in my headphone.
“What do you want, Andrew?” I say not even looking at him.
“I just wanted to talk. Get to know you.” I roll my eyes and put my headphone back in looking out the window. He doesn’t get my hint. “You can’t deny that we had a bonding moment yesterday.” I can hear through my music.
“No, we didn’t, Andrew. I didn’t know it was you.”
“Well who else would it be?”
“I don’t know. I just didn’t think you’d be the one to come pick me up off my feet.”
“I’m really not the guy you think I am, Bethany.”
“Then who are you?” I look at him and take out both of my headphones.
“Someone you should give a chance to and find out.” Smooth. He was very smooth.
I still didn’t trust him though.
-
The bus stops at our school and I wait for my mum to come get me. Andrew’s playing with my iPhone until his mum came to get him, he hands it to me and within seconds I feel my phone vibrate to an unknown number. I open it and it reads, “Hey, it’s Andrew.” Frankly, I didn’t want to respond. I was barely letting him talk to me on the bus ride home, but how can I ignore someone that’s right next to me?
But of course, I was being nice. So I responded to him. But I kept my answers short. I was home now, and I didn’t want to talk to anyone.
-
After about a week of talking, he started to change. He was being nice to me, complimenting me, asking me to hang out, sticking up for me. Basically, he was there when my friends weren’t. Then he popped the question. I’ll never forget it. It was a Friday after school. He called me once I got home, and he just came out with it. “Will you go out with me?”. I was young. I was vulnerable. I was never asked that question. I was stupid. I said yes.
-
Weeks pass, and he treated me like I didn’t exist. I didn’t feel like a girlfriend—his girlfriend. I remember thinking about breaking up with him, but he beats me to it with a text. “I’m breaking up with you.” He couldn’t be anymore blunt.
I’ll be honest. I did cry. He was my first “boyfriend”. I thought he was capable of making me happy. The things he said to me were so sweet, it was so new to me that someone actually thought that way about me. But I was wrong. And he wasn’t worth my tears.
A week goes by and we don’t talk. But my friends come back to me. One by one, they all apologized. But to this day, only a few of them stayed with me. Bless them.
Then, I don’t know how, but Andrew introduced me to hell. Not even a glimpse of it. The whole effing experience.
“I just wanted to let you know, that I didn’t even like you. I just felt bad for you that your friends hated you.” That text message hurt. But I didn’t cry. I just didn’t respond to him.
Once every other week he would send me a hurtful text. Each time I was hoping it was an apology, or something sweet that he always used to say to me. One time I even hoped for a plead to take him back. But I was wrong—each and every time.
“You’re a bitch.” “You have no friends.” “I never liked you.” were only some of the hurtful things he said to me. The others are to remain for my memory only. I don’t want to express to everyone those words.
He fed me these hurtful words for 8 months. Eight months. I swear, I spent those eight months crying, and thought I was worthless. Sometimes I would even get a call from him, and he would say just the meanest, and rudest things to me. I even cried on the phone. He’s heard me cry. You would think that’s someone’s weakness, so he’d have to apologize, but no. He laughed right into the phone. Laughed right into my ear. His laugh was so evil. I winced as I heard him laugh at my tears and hung up the phone.
He would even mask his hurtful acts by starting with a normal greeting and conversation. Then when I least expected it, he would shut me down. It’s like it’s all he lived for. All he wanted was to know I was upset, hurt, and even physically crying.
Then it was that one night that I will never ever forget, even if I tried. I was home alone while everyone in my family was everywhere. I was sitting on my couch watching a movie and eating popcorn while texting my friend. I hear my phone vibrate and I pick it up to feel it vibrate again as I read, “Andrew” on my screen. I ignore the call. I realized that whenever I ignored the calls, he wouldn’t try to call again. So I did so.
I wait for my friend’s reply still, and I hear my phone vibrate again. It’s him. He never calls again if I don’t answer the first time. I always think, well, what if it’s an emergency? What if something’s wrong, and I’m a last resort? So, I answer it.
“Hello?”
“Beth?” He doesn’t sound like it’s an emergency.
“Yeah.”
“Did you know, that no one likes you?”
I didn’t answer. I just let his words pour out, and I almost ignore all of it. But how can I?
“That—that you’re a huge whore and everyone thinks you are?”
Again, I dare not to answer. I can’t give him his satisfaction.
“Oh, and that I never liked you, I just felt bad that everyone hated you? All the sweet things I said to you was a lie. It was just an act. I never liked you, and no one does. You have no friends and everyone actually hates you. You should hear what people say behind your back! You’re worthless and unimportant. Why don’t you just go kill yourself?”
He’s lucky I didn’t choke on the popcorn that I was eating as he was telling me all of this. But maybe that’s what he would have wanted. His words cut like knives. I can’t take it anymore. Andrew, had won.
“Ok, I will.”
As I draw the phone from my ear I can hear him asking me to wait so he can change his words. But there’s no taking it back. What’s said is done.
I don’t even hesitate a second once I hang up the phone, I get up and walk into the kitchen, not even bothering to pause the movie. I walk straight up to a pad of paper and pen that happened to already be on the counter, and I write,
Andrew, you win.
I place it next to my phone and stack of knives. I hold the knife against my skin, shaking as I do so. The tears never failed to constantly fall from my eyes and onto the blade and my wrist. The shaking becomes intense and I fall to the floor. I didn’t cut myself, nor kill myself. But I wanted to. Oh bloody hell, I wanted to.
He made me feel like I had nothing to live for, he even told me. I sat there on the kitchen floor, drop the knife arms length away from my body and sat there, crying.
And then it comes to me. He doesn’t have the power to tell me when my life ends. And that’s when I reach up onto the counter and grab my phone dialing his number. It rings a few times and then I hear his voice frantic, like he had been freaking out at our last phone call. “Hello?! Beth?!”
I choke back my tears,“You. You have the nerve don’t you? What makes you think, that you can just treat me like shit for eight months straight and get away with it, huh? Do you think it’s funny to send me those text messages and call me when you’re with your friends to tell me that I’m worthless, ugly, a whore, and any other of the words you said to me? I’m on my breaking point and you’re damn right as hell lucky that I didn’t take that blade to my neck. Don’t you EVER call me again, and don’t you EVER even dare to talk to me. I never want to see, hear, or think of you ever again. Goodbye, Andrew.”
The nerve that kid has. I can’t believe it took me eight months, and a knife to my skin for me to stand up to him.
-
It’s been one month since that phone call. He hasn’t said a word to me since. And just to think, one simple paragraph for me to recite off the top of my head to him is all it took for him to stop harassing me. All of my friends knew about what he had done to me. But none of them knew about the knife. They just think everything was all in one phone call. But it wasn’t.
I should have trusted my first instinct. I should have pushed him away. Why did I ever let him into my life?
That one night, that one glorious night. He decides to text me again. Starting with a normal conversation.
“Hey”
“Hi.” I reply.
“How are you?”
“Good. How are you.”
“Great.”
“Ok. Bye now.”
“What? Bye?”
“Yes. Bye.”
I wasn’t going to let him take over my life again. After that conversation, I deleted his number from my phone and I’ve never been happier since.
One year later…
I’m now in year nine, and that’s where I am now. Andrew and I met and dated at the end of year seven, so summer and fall past and the whole… event happened in year 8 in late November.
I’ll never forget my first day of year nine. This is when my year moves into the high school and different towns go to one school. I remember walking in the hallway and spotting the most attractive lad I’ve seen in ages.
Each lesson passes, and that lad is in almost every one of them. I over heard his friends talking to him, and his name is Harry. Harry Styles. I heard he was a total sweetheart, but I also heard that he’s a complete ladies man. I mean, how could he not be? Those curls, those green eyes, those dimples, ugh it’s too much for one guy. And he probably is in a committed relationship already, so I’ll save myself early and not even bother to crush on him.
-
A few months pass, and I excuse myself from class, one which Harry wasn’t in. He and I have never had a conversation, and I don’t have a crush on him, but I do keep my eye on him every now and then.
So, I leave class to use the washroom, and when I finish my business to leave to go back to class, I look left and right in case I ran into one of my friends. I look to my right, and I see Andrew. I give him a glare and look to my left and start walking since that was the direction back to my classroom. I see Harry walking toward me, and flashes me a smile out of courtesy.
I hear Andrew whisper, “Beth! BETH!” I ignore him. There was no way I’m ever getting involved with him.
“Beth! I have to tell you something!” I roll my eyes and Harry notices as he passes me. I hope he doesn’t think it was for him…
“WHAT ANDREW.” I hiss turning around to see he’s a few feet away from me.
“I just wanted to tell you that—” I cut him off and start walking toward his frozen body.
“No, you don’t want to tell me anything, remember? You made my life HELL!” I said ‘hell’ rather louder than I wanted it to be, because I notice Harry turn around beyond Andrew was standing, and tries to hide himself by getting a drink at the water fountain.
Andrew tries to speak again and I lunge myself at him wanting to just hit him, and slap him, and do such school illegal things to him! Harry can’t help himself but run up to us and try to break up my attempted fight. He succeeds to hold me back from Andrew as he tells him to scram. My rage turns into tears and Harry tries to calm me and shush away my tears.
“Hey—hey, hey,” he says trying to hold me still.
My watering eyes just stare into his perfect green ones.
“What was all that about?”
“Do you really care? Or are you going to treat me like scum like he did.” I gesture toward the direction he ran away in, and tried to get out of Harry’s hold. He just pulled me back into place holding me a foot away from him.
“No, I actually care. I’ve heard about him.”
“Hah, so have I. And then he made my life hell.” I attempt to leave his hold again. He just holds me in the same place.
He narrows his eyes and tries to put puzzle pieces together, “You’re Bethany.” he says to me.
“Yes, and you’re Harry. We’re in a few classes together.” I say sarcastically.
“No, no I mean you’re Bethany. The Bethany. I’ve heard about you.”
“Lovely.” I say unenthusiastically, and again. Trying to get back to class. I fail from his grip.
“No, I mean, I’ve heard about what he’s done to you.” He pauses, and relaxes his tight grip. “I’m so sorry.”
“No need to be sorry. I just need to stay as far away from him as possible, or else I’ll physically destroy his face.” I say my last sentence in a hushed tone glaring down the hall Andrew ran away to.
He lightens the mood, “Well then I’m glad I walked the halls when I did.” One of his signature smiles grows on his face and he lets go of his grip trusting I won’t run away.
-
Harry and I spent the rest of the 10 minutes left of class sitting on a bench against the window near where we had our first conversation. We just talked about Andrew, what Harry’s heard about him and what Andrew did to me. Harry gave me his condolences.. and our first kiss.
-
Here I am today, I’m going to be in year 10 in the fall, hoping to never see Andrew or get involved with him ever again. But if he does, I know I have Harry by my side to kick his ass!
Surprise!
Anna’s POV
“Let’s hang out tonight!” Louis said to me when I answered my cell. He’s been my best friend since we were little kids. He lives a couple blocks over so he and I were always the go-to when no one else could hang with us. And after a few years, he was the only friend I really wanted to be with. And around year 5, I started crushing on Louis, but I would never tell him that. I don’t want to ruin the friendship he and I have.
“Ok sure! What do you want to do? Movie marathon and sleepover?” It’s one of our traditions to do almost every weekend, and yes, we have sleepovers! We’re literally like brother and sister, our families are even friends so we’re allowed to spend the night. But, he’s the only boy I’m allowed to have sleepovers with, but I don’t mind.
“Oh, come on, it’s your birthday! I want to do something special for your birthday!”
“Boo bear, you know I don’t expect much for my birthday! I don’t want anything special tonight. It’s just like any other night!” Louis always wants to make me feel special as his best friend, but I never like to be pointed out.
“Fine! If you say so, what do you want to do tonight?”
“Movie marathon and a sleepover!”
“Fine! But I’m taking you out to dinner, for your birthday, come over at 8:00!”
And that was the end of our conversation. Today’s my 17th birthday. My family doesn’t do anything really special for my birthday, we usually just go out to dinner, but since my mom got a “last minute” night shift at the hospital, we all went out for a birthday breakfast! Which I think isn’t the same as a birthday dinner, but it’s still a good last minute substitution.
Which almost worked out perfectly because Louis asked me to hang out like we always do. He and I always spend our birthdays together even with the family, but this morning he wasn’t awake for my breakfast. But it’s okay because we spend the whole day together anyway!
But he told me to come at 8:00? That’s not like him…
“Wait, at 8? I thought we always spend the whole day together on our birthdays? :(” I text him and almost instantly he answers, “I can’t today love, out of all days, I have to run errands for my mum, but I’ll be ready for you at 8!”
“Oh…”
“But I’ll make it up to you! I have to go start them and maybe I’ll finish them earlier so you and I can have more time! Xx!”
“Okay! Xx”
Run errands? On my birthday? His mum knows my birthday off the top of her head, she wouldn’t make him do errands. Well I’ll just drop it. I’ll still get my movie marathon and sleepover so that’s all that matters.
Well, it’s 1:34 p.m. What do I do now? I guess I’ll call one of my girlfriends to hang out with me until tonight.
“Hey Elise! Do you want to go downtown for a few hours for a shopping day?” I text,
“Oh, Anna! I’m so sorry, love, I’m at my grandparents house for the day :( But Happy Birthday! Hope it’s a good one! Xx!”
Okay then..
“Alicia! What are you doing today? Want to go shopping with me downtown?”
“Sounds like fun! But I can’t, I’m babysitting today :( I’m so sorry! But Happy Birthday! Xx!”
“Eliza, what are your plans for today? Want to go downtown for shopping?”
“I would love to spend your birthday with you! But I can’t! I’m driving home from my cousin’s house :(”
“Oh, well when will you be home? Maybe we could go even for an hour or two!”
“I won’t be home until late tonight, I’m so sorry! But Happy Birthday! Sorry I can’t be there to spend it with you! Xx!”
Of course, today, my birthday, most of my friends are busy. Well this is great. I guess I’ll have to spend it alone, with my siblings. That’s not too bad though.
My sister Sophia is only a couple years younger than me, she would love to go downtown for a shopping spree!
“Sophia!” I yell downstairs from my room. No answer? I get up from my bed and laptop to open my door and scream, “Sophia?” Still no answer. A little annoyed, I continue down the short hallway and walk downstairs, leaning over the rail searching the living room, “Sophia?” Where is she? Wait, why is no one home? Gee, love you too, family.
I usually like being home alone on the weekends, or really whenever I can so I can just do whatever I want. But today’s my birthday. The one day I actually want to be with people, and no one’s around to be with me—ugh, this just sucks.
I go on my laptop and log into FaceBook and Twitter and Tumblr as a pass time with my iTunes playing Ed Sheeran. Not even 1 of my friends are on FaceBook chat right now; but how? No one I know is reblogging anything on Tumblr and no new statuses on Twitter! What are people doing that I’m not involved in!
It’s now 3:49 p.m., I guess I’ll watch TV until I go to Louis’. It just bothers me how the one day I really want to spend with him, he has to “run errands”. I just want to hug Lou and tell him how I feel about him, and us.
I want to be more than best friends, I want to look into those deep blue eyes and call him mine. I want him to hold me so protectively, like he always does. I want him to know that there’s more meaning to the “I love you,” I say to him, because we always say it so playfully and in a friendly way. But in my head, it has a whole different meaning. Maybe tonight I’ll tell him how I feel about him at dinner. Oh god, it’s 4:06, I need to start getting ready for dinner with Lou… but what should I wear?
“Hey Lou, I know you’re busy running errands, but where are we going for dinner? I need to know how well I should dress” I text him and get in the shower, when I got out I read this: “Love, you can wear whatever you like! Dress fancy-casual.. if that makes sense? Hahah!”
“Fancy-casual? Give me an example!”
“I don’t know! Kinda like you would for a party or something!”
“Oh well, okay then! Make sure it’s a good restaurant! I’m saving my appetite for this!”
“I won’t let you down, love! But I g2g, xx!”
I stand in front of my closet in sweats as a wring out my wet hair into a towel, staring at my clothes… I got it!
High-waisted shorts, fancy tank top tucked in, with a casual patterned-cuffed blazer, and my favorite black TOMS.
I take my time straightening my hair and work hard on my recently new bangs, and I text Lou at 7:54, “I’m leaving my house now!” and walk out the front door, locking it behind me.
Louis’ POV
I open her text eagerly as it’s just a few minutes before 8:00, it read, “I’m leaving my house now!”
I scream at the top of my lungs, “EVERYONE, SHE’S ON HER WAY!” and literally two minutes later she texts me again saying “I’m walking up to your front door, is it unlocked?” I reply, “No, it’s not one second!”
I whisper to the people around me, “She’s here! Tell everyone to hide!” and within seconds everyone is crouching down behind my outside furniture waiting for me to usher Anna outside. I even got her whole family in on it, I called her mom pretending to be her boss telling her to work the night shift, and I told all of her friends that if she asks to hang out since she’s home alone to say that they’re busy. Meanwhile, I was getting this whole party set up for her and everyone was slowly pouring in to help me prepare.
She’s my best friend. I had to do something special for her. She means everything to me and she always has. Our families always got along really well, and I’ve always admired our friendship. But for several years now, I’ve wanted to make it more than just a friendship. But as a little lad, I didn’t want to make things awkward if I told her I liked her that way and she didn’t feel the same; that would ruin our relationship. But tonight, I’ll find a time we’re alone and tell her how I feel about her—we’re mature now. We can handle a little awkward situation and not letting it ruin anything.
I keep my cool while I walk to the front of my house to let her in, take a deep breath, and open the door. Without looking at her I say, “Happy Birthday, love!”. Bloody hell. She looks gorgeous. I take her into a big bear hug and I take her bag to put it on the stairs for later and she speaks to me while walking to the doors leading outside,
“So when are we going? I’m starving!”
“Soon! I just have to tell my mom we’re going, I think she’s outside.”
“Oh, I want to see your mom! It’s been too long since I’ve seen her!”
“She wanted to wish you a happy birthday before we left too, so you can go out first.” and I suavely open one of the french doors and reveal the outside crowd, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANNA!” she is almost blown back into my left arm that is spotted behind her, and she rests her hand on her chests and chuckles, “Wait, what?” and turns back to me,
“Surprise!”
“Oh, wow, Lou…” and she walks off hugging her family and friends that I almost had to bribe to get here.
As she wanders off to greet everyone, I go to our friends and have a drink with them, then someone taps me on the shoulder, “Yeeees?” I say turning around to her perfect face.
“Did you do all of this?” she asked.
“All by myself!”
“Wow, Lou, this is the best thing anyone has ever done for me!”
“Well.. you know.. I’m the best! So.. it kind of makes sense, don’t you think?” as I drink from my red solo cup.
“Oh, hush you! This party’s so great, thank you so much!” and rams herself into me for a hug, and I whisper to her, “Anna, can I talk to you?”
She looks back up to me, still in the hug, “Yeah, sure boo-bear, about what?”
“Alone” I whisper softer, and she gives me this confused look letting go of the hug, and I take her hand leading her around the house to my front porch.
Oh god, I haven’t thought this through, what do I say to her? Do I just come out with it? What if she rejects—
“Lou, are you okay?” she interrupts my thinking process, now I have to answer. Okay here I go.
“No, Anna, I’m not,” I say, “I can’t go one day, without seeing you, let alone thinking about you. You’re my best friend, Anna, and for several years now, I’ve wanted to take our friendship to a level higher. Anna, you’re a beautiful girl, I can be myself around you, even a total fool too and I know you won’t judge me. There’s no one else I want to call mine.”
“Lou, before you go any further, I need to tell you something.”
Oh shit. Hello, rejection, how are you doing today?
“Yes, Anna?”
“I’ve had a crush on you since year 5, and I’ve loved you since last year. I love you, Louis.”
God, damn it, the smile on my face can’t get any bigger! She loves me! Why didn’t I reveal myself years before?!
“Really?”
She nods repeatedly and brought her hands up to her face as if gesturing small fireworks, “Surprise!” she says in a soft whisper.
“Will you be my girlfriend, Anna?”
“Yes, Boo bear.”
And with that, I take her into the most passionate kiss I’ve ever given a girl. The girl I’ve wanted my whole life, is now mine.
Banana Girl
This one, is for anon out there, Stephanie, thank you for sharing your need of bananas with us.
Stephanie’s POV
He’s down there. They’re all down there. The love of my life. Correction: Loves of my life. It’s been a while since Matt had his friends over. His friends are like family and I play the little sister. But I’m 16 now, I’m mature. Zayn will definitely see a difference in me since I changed from last year. I got taller, dyed my hair, got contacts, braces off, a lot has changed. My friends have always been crushing on Matt and his friends for years, but they know they’re limits: Zayn. Zayn is my baby, my chunk o’ hunk, my love dove. HE’S MINE. Well, that’s a bit exaggerated.. He’s not my boyfriend. He’s 19 years old. Actually, he doesn’t even know I like him! But that day will come when he falls madly in love with me. But that won’t be tonight. Tonight I have a date. LOL, don’t get too excited, it’s a date with my computer. Yup, we’re spending a lovely evening on Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook. He even paid extra for iTunes to stop by. Tonight’s dinner? Gourmet nutella and bananas. Such a romantic.
Nutella and bananas have been my favorite go-to snack since I was a little girl; no one judge me. Matt has Zayn downstairs while I’m up here, locked in my room, hiding from civilization because I embarrass myself in front of him. Luckily, I won’t have to go down there tonight, only if—oh no. No, no, NO THIS ISN’T HAPPENING. … I HAVE RUN OUT OF BANANAS.
But they just arrived—I thought I was so prepared—I can’t go down there. Oh no. I can’t show myself I’m in my pajamas with Tinkerbell on them! Zayn will see me as the little girl he’s always known! But… that was my dinner. Oh well, I think I can hold it off—ewe, was that my STOMACH?! WHAT KIND OF A NOISE WAS THAT, OH LORD. I need that banana.
But I need to look good for Zayn; he can’t see me like this! Ahh-hah! The beauty of a closet stands before me. Should I spruce myself up? Or should I—nah I should spruce myself up. Tight, sexy little black dress and 4 inch heels? No, that’s too slutty. Three inch heels? …No that’s still too much. What about yoga pants that show off my figure with a tightly fitted tank? Yes! That’s something my brother’s seen me wear around the house, it’s perfect to walk past Zayn in!
HOLY… MY FACE! Do I really look like that on my computer dates?! Oh shite, mascara is a requirement, as is lip gloss, hm…. eyeshadow? Eye liner? Nah, I’ll keep it simple. Bless the lord my hair is already straightened from this morning.
…Is that… SWEAT?! HOW DARE MY FACE SWEAT AT A TIME LIKE THIS. ABORT MISSION. I AM SWEATING. ABORT MISSION. Okay, calm down, maybe it’s just me being nervous. But, it is a little warm in here…oh. That explains a lot. It’s 80 degrees in here! Damn these warm nights. I can’t go down there sweating?! But I don’t want to change. Oh man what do I do!
10 minutes later, I resort to soffee shorts and a tee-shirt. Classy.
One last look in the mirror….and… okay, I look approachable!
Here we go, here I go, through the door, down the hall, downstairs, past the living room, into the kitchen and back. I got this. I can do this. Ok. Boom! And I’m off.
Step one: open the door. CHECK.
Step two: go down the hall. CHECK.
Why is it so quiet…
Step three down the stairs AND…..
What.
“NATHAN! WHERE’S MATT?” I nearly scream at my younger brother who is nonchalantly watching SpongeBob in the living room.
Turning his head around looking up at me so innocently, “He left with his friends a while ago, it’s so must nicer doing business when you’re upstairs and Matt’s out of the house!”
I let out a deep sigh and plop myself onto the stairs, “Watching SpongeBob isn’t really doing business, Nathan.”
“Well, it is when you’re 6 years old!”
I get up and continue down the stairs walking past Nathan exactly where I pictured Zayn to be sitting, “Well, wait until you’re my age, and you understand what business really is.”
I enter the kitchen and lean over the table to the fruit bowl my mom usually leaves out daily.
Wait what? No. How can this be?!
“NATHAN! Where are the bananas!?” I project my voice so he can hear me with the distance between us, he answers “ZAYN TOOK THE LAST ONE!”
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Only in my life, would this happen.
Happiness Does Exist
Kathleen’s POV
Another day passed, another day gone. Another day closer to my death. Another day I can grow old alone. No one can ever love me, it’s impossible. I wish I can go back to the time before my parents even thought about having me; those were the better years. I didn’t exist, and I didn’t get hurt.
Oh great. They’re walking by. Niall Horan and Monica O’Lidden. The couple. She’s a huge bitch to me. She’s one of the reasons I don’t want to be on this earth anymore. I want—need to get out of Ireland.
“Hey, loser, nice outfit. Where’d you get it? Your brother’s closet?” Her remarks toward me always hurt the most.
She knows my brother committed suicide. The whole school knows. He got made fun of to the point where he couldn’t take it, and ended his life. Scott and I were always really close; as close as an eight year old can get to her 14 year old brother.
Of course, I was the one who found him hung in his closet that one school morning. I was so emotional ever since. I sat alone at lunch time, played recess by myself, and shut out the whole world. Because, Scott, was my world. He was my best friend. There are times I want to be with him so bad; I just want my brother back. But I know he never will; therefore, I’ve been suicidal since I was 13. Three years later, and this is how I get treated.
I never got made fun of until this year. The girls get meaner and meaner; especially Monica. Funny enough, she was my only friend when Scott left. She was the only one there for me, and I drove her away; like I said, I spent all my time to my lonesome.
“No, Monica.” My voice frail. I could barely hear myself.
“Miss your brother? Why don’t you go visit him.” she says, now her voice softer, “Permanently.”
That comment, made me pause in place with cringe. I got goosebumps all over my body; no one has ever implied that I kill myself. But I kept walking.
“Will that make you happy Monica? Maybe I will.” I say under my breath, not even bother to turn around to say it to her face. As I reply, I hear Niall stop walking and say to Monica, “Why would you say that? Why even make fun of her? You know, I lose more and more respect for you everyday, and telling her to kill herself draws the line. We’re done Monica.”
I frankly don’t care about Monica, or society for that matter, so I kept my head low with my hood up and one headphone in and keeping my pace balanced, yet slow enough to over hear Niall break up with Monica.
“But, Niall—” “No… Monica. That’s it.”
I can almost feel her pain. Actually I do, being rejected. Feels lovely doesn’t it, Monica?
I hear Niall slow jog to catch up with me, his footsteps becoming louder. He’s approaching. His touch against my shoulder makes me tingle all over my body. I immediately stop and turn around.
“What Niall?”
“I’m so sorry about Monica.”
I shrug him off me and turn around, so I can go home and obey Monica’s request.
“Don’t worry about it, Niall.”
Catching up with me, making me stop in place, “But I want to. No one deserves to be treated the way she treats you.”
I turn around to face him, “I do deserve it though—”
“NO, you don’t.”
How rude of him to cut me off.
“She was there for me when Scott wasn’t. But I was greedy. All I wanted was my brother, and I shut her out. End of story. It brings us to where we are today.”
“So even if you did that, it gives her absolutely no right to talk to you that way. Especially if she knew what a sensitive spot he is to you.”
His piercing blue eyes concentrate right into mine, leaving me almost speechless and distracted.
“Niall, please leave me alone.” I turn on my heel and begin to walk off,
“Kathleen, please let me help you.” He says following behind me,
“I don’t need help, Niall!” I shout at him, then I think aloud while beginning to turn back around away from him, “I need Scott,”
And at that same moment, Niall touches my shoulder again, this time gripping it harder, with more security, spinning me around and taking hold of me. I become tense and grip his wrists as he presses his fingers into my shoulders. But something in my mind told me to give him a chance; all tensions loosen up.
He opens his mouth as if to talk, but fools me with a deep breath first.
“Now, listen, I don’t know what it’s like to go through a great loss like that, but it must be tough.” He rubs his hands slowly with comfort up and down my arm but not daring to go near my elbow. “But you have to show the world, that you can be strong, you can take care of yourself. You are a beautiful girl, Kathleen.” He releases his left hand grip to take off my hoodie and caress my loose hair behind my ear. “Don’t let that go to waste.”
I got lost in those blue eyes of his, they’re so perfect. I’ve never been attracted to guys this easily, especially to Niall. But the way his bleached blonde hair is finding his natural brunette roots and is tousled with to a sexy intensity. The way he holds onto me makes me feel so safe, like there’s no worry in the world.
“Thank you, Niall, but really I must be getting home now,” I say in a hurry and start to rush off.
“I don’t trust you!”
I stop and turn around with my eyebrows raised. However, something about his rude honesty is brutally attractive.
He fumbles for words to correct himself, “I want to prove to you that what other people say doesn’t matter.”
“So, I shouldn’t listen to what you say? That was what I was planning on doing.” I turn around shutting him out the same way I shut out Monica,
“You know that’s not what I mean.” Damn, this boy won’t stop!
“Then, what do you mean, Niall?” I say, turning completely around to face him one more time.
“Let me please walk you home. Take you out. I’ll show you how to have a good time without worrying about Monica’s or anyone’s remarks!”
“I really don’t think so—”
“Please.”
For some reason his plead made me fall for him, hard. I’ve never liked a boy before. Niall and I have never talked to each other until just now, and he knew how to talk to me. He made me feel safe and secure. I love the way he’s confident with what he says, even if it rudely interrupts me.
I sigh, “Fine.”
That smile! That gorgeous, contagious smile! “This way, ma’am” he says in a funny tone gesturing toward the direction I was walking.
For once in my life.. I’m happy.
Bless that soul that made me happy again.
The Rose
Liam’s POV
I finally got her—the girl of my dreams. Tonight’s the night I get to woo her; I planned the most perfect date: a moonlit picnic in the park. Jacqueline will love every second of it!
I’ve been trying to get Jacqueline since day one when I met nearly knocked her over on the first day of term. She was so beautiful, and she becomes more each day. It’s finally a warm night and it cannot wait until spring—that’s too risky. It’s my junior year; I don’t have much time until I’m off into the real world. YOLO, Liam. YOLO.
It’s 6:47, I got my mates from school to set up the picnic for me, while I spent the last few hours getting ready. Oooooo, should I get her flowers? A dozen? No, one is more romantic. Should I get the rose and lay on the picnic blanket naked with it in my mouth? No, I’m not that Harry Styles lad that all the ladies love. I’ll be the romantic mush ball I always am; I’ll get the one rose and ring her doorbell and it’ll be perfect. She’ll love it—she’ll love me.
I got my body showered, my good jeans on, my best plaid button down shirt, my hair perfectly tousled, my best cologne to attract her. I just have to get the rose.
I told Jacqueline I’d pick her up at 7:30, I think I’ve got some time to get that rose—the perfect rose.
With no rush, I walk down the street, around the corner, and to the florist to retrieve an object that I am sure Jacqueline will love.
Classic red, light pink, summer yellow, bleach white, every color you can think of is there! I’m distracted by all the choices then,
“Hi, I’m Christine, may I help you?”
“Uh, yes, I am looking for a uh—” and I look up to see her, so beautiful, so gorgeous, so flawless.
…But Jacqueline.
“…A.. rose.. perhaps?” She slowly, full of sarcasm and squinted her eyes, tilting her head.
I’m completely taken back by how beautiful she is—I can barely speak.
“Uhm.. yes! By any chance, which one would you prefer?”
“Well, I’m a huge fan of the classic red…”
“Ahh…”
She leans in and softens her voice slightly, “..but I’m a sucker for light pink.”
“So you think light pink is my best choice?”
“Yes’sir!”
Damn, this girl is full of enthusiasm.
“So, is this rose for a girlfriend of yours?”
Jacqueline.
“Oh, no! I don’t have a girlfriend… yet.”
“Oh why not? My boyfriend did the cutest thing last week,”
Well, there goes all chances with her—even if I had any.
“Oh really?”
“Yeah! He got me a dozen roses! It would’ve been cuter… you know… if he existed.”
Ahh, she’s got some humour, I like this one.
“You know, I think I’m going to go with two pink roses, please.”
“Two roses?” She turns around and walks me to the register. “Wow, two roses, the girl’s a keeper isn’t she?” There’s that sarcasm again.
“She really is. I met her not to long ago, actually!”
“That’ll be $3.99”
I fumble around my pocket and pull out my change.
“There you go!”
“Thank you! Have a nice day…”
“Liam.”
She smiles the most genuine smile that’s contagious enough to reflect off my face.
“.. Liam.”
“You too, Christine.”
And with that, I turn around, and leave the florist shoppe.
Now for my date with Chri—Jacqueline. I’m going on a date with Jacqueline. The girl I’ve been trying to get for a while now. But she’s also the girl that rejected me the first couple times around. And Christine is eager enough to go out.
Fuck it. Jacqueline can wait.
I turn around and pick up my pace, walking straight up to Christine.
Hah, she’s cute when I catch her by surprise.
“Liam! Did you forget something?”
“Yes,” I take a deep breath passing along one rose to her with ease, “You.”
“Me?”
“Christine, go on a date with me.”
She looks around making sure no one can hear us, “Liam.. we just met.”
“Let me get to know you.”
“…When.”
“Tonight, at 8, meet me in the local park. You’ll find me.”
“Fine, Liam. But just this once!”
“.. one of plenty.” I let out a cheeky wink, since when did I become that Harry Styles guy?
And with that, I walk out with one rose still in my hand; something to greet her with at the picnic.
An hour later, 7:54p.m., Liam’s at the picnic he set up originally for Jacqueline, but now for Christine. He stands alone, thinking about what he’s done for Jacqueline—to Jacqueline. Was it really worth dropping her?
She’ll be here in six minutes. She’ll be here soon. She’ll think I’m a great guy, and she’ll be my girlfriend. Everything will be perfect!
She’ll approach, and I’ll hand her the pink rose, and she’ll blush and we’ll be perfect.
It is now 8:33. Still no sign of Christine.
8:33. Ok. She’s a girl—maybe she’s being fashionably late?
I told her the right park, right?
I didn’t set up too far from the entrance?
..Where is she?
Another half hour passes. Then an hour.
It is now 9:39
I can’t believe her.
With anger, Liam kicks off the picnic basket and tousles the blanket and wrecking the twinkly lights—the whole entourage he had set up for this date. He belts out hidden growls of anger.
At last, he drops the rose, the symbol of him and Christine, leaving it there to die away—like the love him and Christine will never have.
Nothing More Than Friends
Have you ever looked so far back into your past that you feel like it’s become your present again? Have you ever made a wish so far from reality that you imagine it in such depth that it’s just become true to you? Have you ever wanted something that’s just so far out of your grip that you feel as if you already have it? I wish I could say otherwise. Hi. My name is Harry Styles. I’m currently single, and I am 69 years old. You may be wondering, well, where am I? You’re in the year 2063. What’s it like here in the future? It’s no different. The economy here in America still sucks and people are still arrogant; nothing’s changed. Well, you probably don’t care about any of that. I’ve been single all my life. Not because I can’t get myself a woman or anything because that’s far from the truth. The truth is, well, I fell in love. Way back when I was just a young lad, and I still lived in England. Life was beautiful, and incredible. I still remember every detail about the girl who made my life worth living. Her name was Rose, Rose Fairview. I’ll start from the place I’ll never forget, the beginning. It all started when I was very young. 2 years old, to be exact. Rose and I met through our parents who were close for a very long time before they introduced us. Rose and I were instant best friends from the second we started talking. She had me at hello. Every second we were together, I felt as though I was as safe as ever. She and I used to plan our wedding; and from that second on, I knew I had to have her.. But for now, I thought, we are nothing more than friends. We started to grow up, then. We were still best friends throughout years one and two, but there came a time when we parted. I used to pick on her and throw toys at her during lessons; it was like we didn’t even know each other. Like those times we once shared didn’t happen. I like to call those “the lost years.” Then, we became teenagers. It was the time in our lives where we needed each other the most. We decided that it was about time that we left those years behind and started over. And yet again, throughout high school, we were inseparable. My feelings for her returned not long after. I was there for her through it all, and there wasn’t a day in my life that went by that I wish I could’ve just told her. If maybe I just told her, we could have had a possibility of being together. I was the light that brightened her dark path. Her and I were those best friends that you only see in movies. I was there for her first few steps, her first time riding a bike, her first boyfriend, her first kiss, and much more. But Rose and I were nothing more than friends. High school passed. Her and I both graduated. So much more than alone then, we were out on our own. I just kept holding on tightly to the words that she said; wishing for a call from her as we went our separate ways for College. There was a time every now and then when I’d get a phone call from her, or maybe a Christmas card from her family. But we still were nothing more than friends. There were times when I felt as if Rose and I were talking for the last time when she called. I felt as though after I hung up, we’d have another repeat of those “lost times.” Sometimes I went months without hearing from her. And Rose never really talked about herself; she always asked about me and my life. I felt as though I didn’t even know her anymore. There was one day, though, one day that I will never forget. I was 30 years old, single, still wishing that Rose would call me one day telling me her feelings for me were mutual. But when I got that one letter in the mail, I knew that all chances of my happiness had been torn down just like the remains of Rose and my past. “You, Harold Edward Styles, are coordinately invited to celebrate the marriage of Rose Fairview and Alexander Collins.” The wedding was beautiful and I couldn’t stop myself from crying. I never thought that the next time I’d see Rose after graduation was in a white dress taking a last name that wasn’t “Styles.” I just sat, watching Rose Alexa Fairview become Rose Alexa Collins; imaging what it would be like if it was me in the groom’s position. as I watched her walk down the isle, I felt like I was watching the old Rose from high school who was scared to even kiss a boy. And now there she is, marrying one. And Rose and I are still, nothing more than friends. And now I know.. that’s all we’ll ever be. Rose and I talked for a good hour and a half after the ceremony. We really got to know each other for the third time in our lives, and I fell in love with her all over again. She’s still the gorgeous woman she was 15 years ago. I wish I could have her; I wish I could’ve told her. Years passed after that. Days turned to months, months to years, years to decades. Only every once in a while, I’d get a call from my dear Rose telling me that she missed me. There was one phone call that I will never forget until the day I die. “Harry Styles,” Rose spoke in her usual hushed tone, “You’ve been my best friend all my life. I just wish I could find a way to thank you for being there for me through it all; you’re amazing…” She stopped there. “Thank you.” Though that really warmed my heart, we were still nothing more than friends. Rose had children now who were just as beautiful as she was; this is in the year 2047. Then, in the year 2057… I got a phone call from one of Rose’s friends… but the paper brought the news to me before she did. “Rose Alexa Collins, a lawyer in New York City, dies of breast cancer at the age of 63.” Rose was gone. My best friend… gone. The funeral was unbearable. I couldn’t process what was going on; that I really lost her. The same friend who had called me came up to me at the wake in tears. “Rose loved you, Harry,” She said, unable to go on. “She really did. She wanted to tell you as a child, but she never thought you’d want her. That’s why she married Alexander. She would’ve wanted you to know, though, how she felt…” She was just as choked up as I was. “What a shame. You two could have really been something, Harry… you two could have shined brighter than the sun. Maybe in another lifetime…” She walked away without a trace, and I was too stunned to run after her. I hated myself. I hated everything about me. I could have told her when we were young and reckless, but I kept it to myself. She could have been mine. I could have had her. Rose Fairview could have been mine. But… we were nothing more than friends. Now, forever will Rose and I be… only friends. I vowed right in front of her grave to Rose herself that I will never love another woman but her. And here I am now, in the year 2063, still loving Rose just as much as I did when we had first met. I keep her picture by my bedside and pray to her every day, knowing that God’s taking care of her up there in Heaven. The only thing that gets me by every day is knowing that one day, when I die and I’ve completed my time here on Earth, I will be with Rose. It will be nothing more than a new life in a better place, with the one I’m ready to spend forever with. And when that day comes, I’ll know. When God takes me under his wing and hands me over to my new destiny, Rose and I will find each other again. And we will be together, no matter what happens. I know that as a fact… maybe God just had bigger plans for me than I had for myself. So I guess, while I’m alive and healthy, I’ll just have to be happy with what’s coming my way and accept the fact that for now… Rose and I are nothing more than friends.
Last Night
Kaitlyn’s POV
I can’t get yesterday out of my head. Even though I’ve been dating Harry Styles for a few weeks now, yesterday was the first time I’ve been to his flat and met his mum. It was definitely my favourite day spent with him; and let me just say… it was absolutely perfect. I got to his flat around 3:00pm and I was immediately greeted by his mum and we went upstairs to his perfectly messy room. When we stepped in he walked into the middle of the room leaving me leaning on the door frame to look around a bit. He turned around to look at me, and flexed his right bicep while ruffling through his hair and facing down then shyly looking up at me saying, “Well?”. And I chuckled and walked up to him and kissing him softly leaving him wanting more as he always does and replying, “It’s perfect.” Then he aggressively, yet playfully pushed me onto his bed to get a little more intimate, but I took things childishly and implied a wrestling match with taking hold of him and rolling him over so now I was on my elbows just over him and he took a breath and whispered, “Oh, it’s on!” and with that, he pinned me down to the ground and took me down every time! Each time we got distracted and started snogging aggressively and soon after we just ended up cuddling and laying sprawled all over each other in his bed. Then he took me by surprise and said “Kaitlyn, let’s go on a walk to my favourite hideout!” I eagerly agreed and off we were to the train tracks which lead us to a stopped train and we climbed to the top and he said to me “this is where I come and sit sometimes, just to think,” then he turned to look into my eyes while nudging me “mostly to think about you.” After about five minutes of just talking about our lives and normal things, we heard a noise and he jumped off taking me with him and took my hand in his and sprinted away and about half way back home we stopped while he explained to me that it was actually illegal to do that and I freaked out on him because he knows I would never do anything illegal like that! But it was still a fun experience! We just sat where we were and it began to get frigid out so he gave me his JW hoodie and held me close to him for extra warmth. On the way back to his flat he gave me a piggyback ride because he saw the exhaustion in my eyes. He placed me gently down in his bed and turned on the television and I was soon fast asleep. Something about being surrounded by his scent and warmth and comfort, I felt so safe. When I woke up, his perfect green eyes were looking down at my blue eyes and we both instantly smiled and he whispered, “Good morning, my sleeping beauty!”, even though it was nearly 10:00 at night! Everything with Harry is so perfect and could not get better. At 10:30p.m. he walked me home, but slowly so he could get more time with me; not like I objected. He topped off the night with a suave, soft, gentile kiss which played fireworks in my mind. Harry Styles is what makes my heart beat; it’s just the little things he does and says that leaves me overly lovestruck to fangirl over him! When I’m with him, I feel like the luckiest girl in all of Holmes Chapel! He always leaves me wanting more, that cheeky, curly-haired boy.
Expect The Unexpected; Chapter One
Vivian’s POV
I guess you can say my life is literally perfect. I have a big family, nice house, great hair, huge closet, hot body, and the hottest boyfriend in school, Harry Styles. He and I are literally perfect. We’re both popular, have great lives, and I just think he makes me look good. Well, I look good with or without him, but I look even better with those curls, that smile, those eyes, and that body standing right next to me. The best part about him? He’s British.
My name is Vivian. I’m very school spirited. I’m head cheerleader, honor roll, and best actress in drama club. I don’t see why any one wouldn’t want me? Like, look at me?
Harry and I have been together for a couple years now. We’re both in seniors in our high school, and everyone worships our relationship. But lately, Harry’s been acting different ever since the school year started. It’s only November, so this has been going on for a few months now. He seems distracted when we talk, and we don’t go out on many dates anymore, and he rarely smiles when he’s not faking it.
Oh shoot, I’m going to be so late for homeroom.
I get in my car I recently got for my birthday, and speed to school. I don’t care if I get caught by the police, my dad is chief and I know and am loved by every cop in town.
I pull into the school parking lot and I see Harry just parking his car too. He looks drained today. I park in the open spot right next to him and get out with such enthusiasm.
“Harry!” maybe that was too loud for the morning, poor baby literally jumped and turned around like he was scared.
“Oh, Vivian. Hey.” why is his voice just as drained as his appearance. He always calls me pet names, and rarely calls me Vivian. That’s what he called me when we just met. What the hell, Harry?
Harry’s POV
My life isn’t exactly average. I’m Harry Styles. I’m originally from Holmes Chapel in the U.K., but when my parents split up a few years ago, my mother took custody of my sister, Gemma and I, and we fled to San Fransisco, California. Styles is my father’s last name, my mother’s name would have gotten me beaten up, Harry Cox. Go ahead. Laugh.
Since then, I’ve been active in school to help me make friends. The girls weren’t a problem. The first day I was there, the girls basically were lined up to greet me. But the guys, I just got some stares. So I tried out for basketball. Coach said I was one of the best players, and offered me to be captain. But I’m not much of a leader, and I would have found it rather difficult to be head of all my teammates, so I turned it down. It all worked out though. I made a lot of friends and became very well liked in my grade. Then it turned out I made friends in other years, I’m sorry, grades. I’m still not used to the whole American vocabulary. So I became well liked throughout the whole school.
So, yeah. That’s about it. Oh, almost forgot. I have a girlfriend for a couple years now, Vivian. I call her Viv, and normal relationship names. She’s a real catch, beautiful girl, and smart. But she’s also head cheerleader and lead role in the drama club. Sometimes I think her talents can get to her head, and she thinks she’s the best out there and can be a huge bitch, but I’m not that kind of guy. I’ve been having second thoughts on our relationship.
I got one of the last spots in the senior parking lot, and I have Vivian on my mind. But in a negative way. The meaner she is to people, the more unattractive she gets. And lately, I’ve been—
“Harry!” She interrupts my thoughts and I jump and turn around to her valley girl voice.
“Oh, Vivian. Hey.” I stay in place letting her catch up with me.
“Vivian?” she walks a little faster as she approaches me, “Since when do you call me that?” she questions me as I turn around.
“Oh, sorry baby, it’s the morning,” I wrap my arm around her and kiss her head, “I woke up nearly five minutes ago.”
I had to lead this relationship on. I know Vivian, I know what she thinks she’s capable of. She’ll spread some horrid rumour about me, or our relationship, just so the popularity she thinks she has is safe. Now that’s the difference between us. She thinks she’s popular. But what is popularity? To me, it’s just this huge group of people that are best friends that are all completely obnoxious and date each other. I’m not like that. I’m well liked. I have different friend groups and I don’t want to my choices to be limited.
That brings me to her, I pass her in the parking lot with regret of showing forced affection for Vivian. I can see the disappointment in her eyes as she drives past us. But I had to pretend I didn’t see her, that I don’t even know her. That way Vivian won’t be suspicious of me.
Gabby’s POV
My name is Gabrielle, my few friends call me Gabby, Gabs, Bri, but mainly Gabby. I don’t want to bore you, so I’m going to keep this short.
I’m on honor roll, captain of the debate team, I play the flute… and, well, I’m not very noticed. I only have about 5 close friends, the rest are just my peers. I don’t really put much thought into what I wear in public. I like to keep it simple. Usually just a t-shirt and hand-me-down jeans. I buy new clothes frequently because they look good on me in the dressing room, and I think that when I wear it the following Monday, that I’ll be a new person, but I chicken out and it never happens.
Oh, and did I mention that I have the worst crush on Harry Styles? He’s popular in my grade, and totally cute, not to mention his British accent! But he’s dating this total…. bitch, Vivian. I don’t like her. At all. Not even back in grade school. She’s just horrible. I can’t take her.
But, of course, she was first to pounce on him when he came freshman year. I’ve had a fangirl type crush on him since, and it’s progressed over the years. I don’t know what he does that makes him so good looking, and so… perfect. If only he knew.
Well on the positive side, I think he’s finally noticing me! Since he switched into my creative writing class, he would smile at me when he caught me looking at him, and he would be a total sweetheart that he is.
The one day I arrive at school late, I can’t find a parking space, and I drive past Harry with his arm around Vivian, as expected. I noticed him, but I doubt he noticed me.
Expect The Unexpected; Chapter Two
Vivian’s POV
Harry walks me to my locker quickly before we go to homeroom. He leans against the lockers next to mine and stares at the ground off my shoulder as I punch in my combination. I glance at him doing so, and I double-take and concentrate on switching my books, “Harry? You okay?” and he snaps out of his daze,
“What?” he widens his eyes and quickly closes them tight to pinch his nose, “Oh, yeah,” and rubs his eyes, “I’m fine.”
I finish my book change and close my locker. “Are you sure? Because you seem… I don’t know… distracted or something.”
“Distracted? No, I’m just tired. I told you, I literally just woke up.”
I look at him, almost not believing him. But then I realize that when I’m tired, I get all spacey like he is right now. So I drop it.
“Oh, okay then. What are you doing this weekend?” I ask him while walking ahead to our homeroom. I turn my head behind me to see him catching up with my hurried pace since we’re going to be late.
“Oh, uhm. Viv, I can’t think right now. It’s too early in the morning.”
As I turn the hall walking a step ahead of him, I say, “Oh, well I was hoping that maybe we could go out like we always do.”
“Maybe. I’ll have to see what I’m doing.”
Doing? I know his schedule. It’s not basketball season yet, he should be relatively free.
“What could you possibly be busy with?” I say as we enter the chatty classroom just making it before being late.
As we find our seats he says, “Well my schedule for work is changing because we have a new boss. It changes weekly so I have to check my hours.”
“Oh…” he must have noticed the disappointment in my reaction because I saw him sigh using his whole body, getting up out of his desk next to mine, leaning over and kissing my cheek. I immediately smile and it lightens up the mood.
“Mr. Styles, could you please be seated so I can start today’s lesson?” our annoying history teacher said from his desk walking to the front of the room as the bell rang.
“Yes, Sir.”
I smile at Harry as he sits back down. I look down at my notebook and play with my pen. Maybe things aren’t as different as I thought they are.
Harry’s POV
History class has never gone by so slow, especially this early in the morning, I nearly fell asleep. Finally the bell rang after what seemed as forever had gone by, I pick up my notebook and pen and stand up, waiting for Vivian to take her time gathering her things.
We walk out of the classroom and down the hall almost reaching the end where she and I usually go our different ways for different classes. In the beginning of the year, the office messed up my schedule, and I had a class which I had already taken and gotten the credits for. Thank god I changed it,because I had almost every class with Vivian. And since I did, it switched my whole schedule around, just for one class. They told me I was recommended for a creative writing class, and that it was easy and something to fill in for the blank period that they messed up on. Because of that creative writing class, there was only one class time for it which was fourth period. At first I had nearly every class with Vivian, which I wasn’t too thrilled about. There’s only so much of her that I can stand now.
Maths class and science pass quickly without Vivian, and I make my way to period four. With each step I take closer to the room, the more excited I get. I was never a fan of writing, but I guess with my advanced vocabulary, it enhances my writing. That’s why I’m in this stupid class. But I shouldn’t call it stupid. There’s a girl named Gabrielle that sits across the room from where I do. She’s a very talented writer. She’s a bit shy though, but I catch her sometimes daydreaming toward me. I often smile at her every time she does so, and each day my smile grows toward her.
She’s a beautiful girl even though she doesn’t try to. Even with her glasses on, her hair tied back into a messy ponytail, and throw-on attire, something about her catches my eye.
I enter the room being one of the first students in, which is very rare because I’m usually stopped by one of my buds, or Vivian in the hallway on my way here. As the rest of the class walks in, my head bolts up hoping it would be Gabrielle, but with each one, my hopes get worked up and shut down as the other students beside her walk in. After about the 7th student, I stop trying. I look above the door at the clock, and as my eyes drop to look back at my desk, I notice her walk in. She looks taken back at the sight of me. Like she was embarrassed that I had caught her walking in. Her head was low, clutching a binder and folders to her chest, her eyes met mine and they widen and quickly shoot back down and makes a bee line to her seat, occasionally glancing toward me.
Why am I attracted toward her? She’s not a girl I would normally chase after, but something about her quirky awkwardness gets me so excited to see her every morning.
Gabby’s POV
Finally, it’s fourth period. I get to walk in and be in Harry’s presence. I get more and more excited as I approach the classroom, using my binder and folders pressed against my chest to hide my heart popping out of my chest—it’s beating so fast.
I pause outside the classroom, take a deep breath and make my way toward the door. My eyes immediately glue to Harry’s seat which is empty when I enter.
I freeze. He’s in his seat already. Harry’s never early?! I feel my face get red and I shot my head down to look at my feet and I make my way to my seat. Oh god, did I just blush in front of Harry and he saw? Why is he smiling at me? My god… he probably thinks I’m the joke of the class. He must get a kick out of me. I mean did he not just see how embarrassed I got when I made eye contact with him?
My life as I know it is over.
-
About halfway through the class, our teacher Ms. Smith starts talking about a group project. We have to write a love story using three main characters, a plot that makes sense, and a twist. She said we can work in a group, partners, or alone. I usually like to do my projects alone. I get a lot more done quicker because I don’t have to wait for my partners to keep up with me. As soon as she hands us the assignment paper and stops talking, I take a glance at Harry from across the room and look back at my desk opening my notebook.
He was looking at me and smiling. Yes, Harry, I know. I’m an embarrassment to society. You don’t need to stare.
I start jotting down ideas as the whole class gets up and starts picking their group members. This is the best moment because I get a head start before everyone else. Suddenly, a shadow hovers over my desk and finishing my last written idea, I start to say looking at my paper, “Yes, Miss—”, as my eyes meet his, Harry is standing before me.
“Gabrielle, right?” He says politely, smiling. I nearly melt. Is this a dream?
“Uh, yes,” I stay put in my seat as he sits down in the desk in front of me turned around. I panic and pu my hand out for him to shake, “nice to meet you!” I close my eyes and scrunch my face regretting my second impression to him.
That laugh. Why must he laugh at me?!
He plays along, and shakes my hand, “Would you like to be my partner?”
I freeze. How can he be so calm? I try to be as calm as him this time, leaning back into my desk and taking a moment to think, then finally letting out, “Yeah, I guess.”
Oh no, was that too calm?! Harry, please say something.
“Okay, good! I don’t really talk to the others in the class.” he says looking around and meeting my eyes that are frozen almost forgetting to blink.
So what makes him think that I’m better than them? I’m the most awkward girl in this class. But he’s talking to me! The love of my life is finally talking to me!
Expect The Unexpected; Chapter Three
Vivian’s POV
I miss when Harry and I had literally every class together. I would see him all day five days a week, plus the weekends. But he’s been all spacey lately, and I don’t like it. I want to know what his deal is.
The dismissal bell for period four rings, and I go to my locker for another book change as I wait for Harry to show up. He usually shows up by the time I put in my second binder. When he doesn’t, I change my books a little slower, class probably ran over time.
I finish changing my books and I start to panic. He’s never this late. It’s five minutes into lunch, teacher’s aren’t allowed to run class into the next period, it’s like, teacher illegal!
I slam my locker door shut and walk to the cafeteria, rage quickening my pace. It’s not like Harry to be late coming to my locker. Since he got his schedule changed out of our identical schedule, shouldn’t he want to see me more!? The nerve of that boy.
I walk into the cafeteria and place my bag down at our normal lunch table. I see Harry’s black backpack.
“Is this Harry’s?” I ask a general question to my friends.
“Yeah, who’s else would it be?” my best friend Kayla said to me.
I pretend like I knew that, and shook my head, “Right, where is he?”
“Getting lunch.” Kayla points off my shoulder and turns to talk to her boyfriend and the people around her.
I immediately turn around and I see his curly hair and white t-shirt. I walk right up to him and tap him on the shoulder. “Uhm, hello?”
He turns around to my voice and wraps his arm around me, “Hey, Viv, what’s going on?” Don’t give in to that smile, Vivian.
I move his hand off of me and I hear a few underclassmen “oooo”. I turn my head around, “Mind your own business.”
I turn back around, “Where were you before you came here?”
Surrendering his hands in the air and leaning back,“Woah, Viv, calm down. I was just in my creative writing class then my locker.” turning around to grab two trays; one for me, one for him.
“Well,” he hands me a tray, “what happened to coming to my locker?”
“We were doing a project and my partner and I went over time a little bit. I thought I’d go to my locker and meet you here.”
“You could have at least told me!”
“How Vivian?!” he snaps at me. I’ve never seen him like this. “I didn’t think it’d be a problem.” He says turning back to the lunch lady for food as he realizes his outburst grabbed everyone’s immediate attention around us.
I calm myself so he doesn’t snap at me again, “You could have maybe texted me to meet you in here, so I wasn’t waiting for you.”
“Well, I’m sorry for the inconvenience.” he sounds annoyed.
I didn’t bother saying anything else. But he could have told me to just meet him in here. I am first priority.
Harry’s POV
Ms. Smith starts talking about a group project. This can be my excuse to not be with Vivian this weekend! It’ll be more realistic if I have a partner though… I think to myself scoping the room. My eyes land on Gabrielle and I smile at her. I notice her glance at me as she opens her notebook to start writing. I’ve been meaning to talk to her anyway, she seems like a nice girl.
I get up and walk over to her, “Yes, Ms—” she stops herself as she sees me standing before her.
-
“No, no, I’m telling you, we have to start out normal, and then put the twist in when everyone least expects it.” I say to her as she just scribbles in her notebook our ideas.
“Well, then, uhm, what about, there’s a boy and a girl, and they’re dating, they’re in love—everything’s great! And then… then…” she looks around, thinking of what to make as the twist.
I clap my hands really loud and say as I lean back in the seat, “He finds out they’re siblings and he dates the town prostitute!”
She stares at me smiling like she’s about to laugh, but nothing comes out. “…You’re kidding right?” She must think I’m serious. I’ll play along with her.
“No, I’m completely serious, how about this, they’re about to get really intimate, and then he gets a phone call from his adopted mum saying that the results are in, and he has a whole different family with siblings and she’s one of the siblings!” Again, she stares, as I begin talking again, the bell rings, but I finish my idea anyway. “Like, the whole time in the story, he’s trying to find his biological parents, and he’s also dating this girl. And in the end, he gets that phone call and meets the family and she’s there!” I stand up as I watch her gather her things.
“Hah! No, Harry, we’re not doing that.”
“Why, not!” I whine like a child would. She laughs at me and I say, “Well, we’ll talk about this later, Gabrielle.” I say about to turn around to fetch my belongings. But I’m interrupted as she corrects me, “Uh—call me Gabby.”
I smile at her and repeat, “Gabby.”
I walk over to my desk and grab my backpack as the bell for next class to begin rings. Good thing I have lunch now, or else I’d be late.
I make my way to my locker for my book change, and without thinking I go straight to lunch. I meet the table I usually sit at, place down my backpack and walk to the lunch line.
Oh, shoot, I forgot to go to Vivian’s locker! Oh well, I’ll just say class went over time and I figured I’d meet her here by the time it was that I left the classroom.
“Uhm, hello?” I hear an annoying voice with tap is on my shoulder.
It’s Vivian. I can tell. Perfect timing.
I can tell she’s mad. I’ll play with her emotions and wrap my arm around her as I say, “Hey, Viv, what’s going on?” I’ll even put on my smile that I know makes her melt.
She throws my hand off her shoulder and I try not to laugh as the freshman behind us say, “oooo”. Being the bitch that she is, she turns around and hisses at them to mind their own business.
She turns back around, “Where were you before you came here?”
“Woah, Viv, calm down.” I say throwing my hands up as if I’m surrendering. I turn my body around to grab two trays; one for me, one for her, “I was just in my creative writing class then my locker.”
“Well,” she starts as I hand her a tray, “what happened to coming to my locker?”
“We were doing a project and my partner and I went over time a little bit. I thought I’d go to my locker and meet you here.”
“You could have at least told me!” her whiny voice roars in my hear.
“How Vivian?!” I snap at her. That felt good. The look on her face was priceless. I notice our immediate area quieted down, so I calm my tone, “I didn’t think it’d be a problem.” I say turning back to the lunch lady for food.
She tries to remain calm, “You could have maybe texted me to meet you in here, so I wasn’t waiting for you.”
“Well, I’m sorry for the inconvenience.” I mock her voice, but I doubt she noticed.
I’ve had enough of her.
Gabby’s POV
“No, no, I’m telling you, we have to start out normal, and then put the twist in when everyone least expects it.” I say to him as I jot down ideas for our project.
“Well, then, uhm, what about, there’s a boy and a girl, and they’re dating, they’re in love—everything’s great! And then… then…” I look around trying not to make awkward eye contact where I end up getting lost in those perfect, deep green eyes. No thank you, embarrassment.
He claps his hands really loud almost making me jump and leans back in his seat, “He finds out they’re siblings and he dates the town prostitute!”
His idea is so absurd, I try to hold in my laugh replacing it with a smile that’s almost too big for my face “…You’re kidding, right?”
“No, I’m completely serious,” I look down shaking my head letting out a soft chuckle as he continues, “how about this, they’re about to get really intimate, and then he gets a phone call from his adopted mum saying that the results are in, and he has a whole different family with siblings and she’s one of the siblings!” I look at him so he knows he has my attention. Even though he always does, but that’s beside the point. The bell rings as he finishes his idea, “Like, the whole time in the story, he’s trying to find his biological parents, and he’s also dating this girl. And in the end, he gets that phone call and meets the family and she’s there!”
“Hah! No, Harry, we’re not doing that.” I say as I gather my things placing everything one by one into my messenger bag, standing up.
“Why, not!” He whines like my little brother would. I laugh and he regains his beautiful, absorbing, deep voice. “Well, we’ll talk about this later, Gabrielle.” He shifts to turn around but I correct him. “Uh—call me Gabby.”
He smiles at me and tries my name on for size. “Gabby.”
I smile too big again, and I hurry my way out of the room. I need to get to my locker and to my lunch table to tell my friends everything; they’re going to freak!
-
“How, Vivian?!” I hear Harry snap at her causing me and the rest of my friends to whip our heads toward his voice. Just look at that face. She looks completely surprised that he would react to her like that. I wonder what happened… Oh. Real smooth, Vivian. Try to be all calm and lower your voice so no one can hear you.
I turn back to my friends as I was in the middle of telling them about my day in creative writing with Harry. My one friend that’s on my right, Moreen, says to me, “I can’t wait for the day he dumps her sorry ass.” Me and the three others seated at our lunch table nod in agreement and my best friend, Ellie leans in resting her head on her hand sliding her elbow, getting my attention from my left side says to me, “You know, Gabs?” I take a bite of my sandwich waiting for her to continue as she gazes off far in the distance, “I can just picture you and Harry together.” she looks back at me through her modern glasses, “You’re the prettiest out of all of us!”
I almost choke on my half-chewed bite, “Ellie! Let’s not get crazy!” I say giving her a look to bring her back to reality.
Ellie is the sweetest one and she’ll really go that extra mile to give someone confidence, or support, or really anything, but it makes her feel good that she made someone else’s day a little better. Like, my friends and I, we’re not popular, but we’re not losers. Like we don’t cake on make-up or come to school half naked, but we also don’t wear duct tape on our glasses and pens in our shirt pockets. We’re average. We all pretty much have a sense of style, we just don’t put the effort in for school. I show up in jeans and a t-shirt with my hair in a ponytail. And I only wear contacts for special occasions.
But, I think I’m pretty. Like, if I actually tried, I can be really pretty. It’s possible, and at least I know I can change myself to put myself out there. But my whole life, I never cared what I wore, and I’m scared like what if people judge me the wrong way. It’s my senior year, isn’t it too late to put on the cute clothes in the back of my closet?
“No! Gabs, Ellie’s right. If you let your hair down, wore some contacts, and even wore some of those cute clothes you’ve got in your closet,” Abby says gesturing her hand as she thinks of how I could change, “you’d be a totally different Gabby.”
“You really think so?” I say furrowing my eyebrows and narrowing my eyes looking around them.
“Don’t act as if you don’t know.” Emily says from across the table. “It’s true and you know it, Gabs.”
They got me thinking, maybe senior year is my year to be who I want to be.
Expect The Unexpected; Chapter Four
Vivian’s POV
Paying for lunch and walking back to the table was kind of awkward. I paid for my own lunch for the first time in ages, and we walked back to the table in complete silence. I could tell he was angry with me. But why would he be angry? I didn’t do anything wrong? He’s the one that snapped at me.
Even the first minute eating lunch was awkward. He and I were both silent until I glanced at him and roll my eyes back to my wrap when he doesn’t even take a glimpse at me.
“Is something… wrong?” Harry and I look up in unison at Kayla’s question. He finally looks at me, and back at Kayla.
“No. I don’t think so.” he says as if nothing ever happened. I scrunch my eyebrows at his answer. There was definitely something wrong.
There was an awkward silence until Harry broke it by putting his arm around my shoulder, which made things more awkward. “What’s there that can be wrong?” I grow angry and throw his arm off my shoulder like I did on the lunch line. What makes him think that he can just snap at me and pretend nothing ever happened?
“Are you kidding me Harry? Were you not there like five minutes ago when you snapped at me?” I keep my volume normal but my voice stern. I notice my friends’ eyebrows rise and eyes widen at my response to Harry.
“I was there, but ever heard of forgive and forget?” he says looking straight at me.
“You know I don’t forgive and forget. It’s like you don’t know me at all anymore. What’s going on Harry?” he looks at me like I have more to say. So I continue, “Why have you been different?”
He tries to act like he hasn’t been weird these past few months. “What do you mean, Viv? I haven’t been different.”
“Yes you have! You have and you know it! Don’t act like the past few months you’ve been the same, because you haven’t.” he stays silent as he lets me rant, “You’ve been distant with me lately, don’t call me the names you usually do, forget to come to my locker, don’t take me out anymore. It’s not the same as it used to be!” I pause and lean in closer to him saying quieter but stern and slow, “What is going on?”
He just looks at me and says, “Nothing, Vivian.” and turns away to eat his sandwich. “I don’t want to talk about it.” he says quietly.
“What do you mean you don’t want to talk about it? You know I’m not going to let this go.” I say and he whips his head toward me leaning down under the table to get his backpack.
“Well, maybe you should.” he stands up and walks away not even looking at the rest of the table or back at me. He just got up and left the cafeteria.
I watch him leave then I awkwardly turn back at my friends. They remain silent and are cautious about what they want to say. Just come out with it! I thought.
When they didn’t say a word I sigh in disgust and pick up my bag and walk after Harry trying to catch up with him.
How dare he just snap at me twice and walk out on me.
Harry’s POV
I kept myself silent as I didn’t budge to pay for her lunch, and made my way to my seat. I was hoping no one would notice the silence between Vivian and I, but no. Of course, Vivian’s best friend, Kayla, has to observe everything as she says, “Is something… wrong?” my head whips up at her question to see her looking straight at Vivian and I. I try to play that everything’s fine because I simply don’t want to explain to everyone that my own girlfriend makes me so angry. “No. I don’t think so.” I say and place my arm around her shoulder, “What’s there than can be wrong?” only to make her mad and abruptly be thrown off.
“Are you kidding me, Harry?” she turns and looks straight at me. “Were you not there, like, five minutes ago when you snapped at me?” I glance over at her friends and I can see that they were drawn to the argument that Vivian was starting.
Then I look back at her, “I was there, but ever heard of forgive and forget?”
“You know I don’t forgive and forget.” she says full of such disgust. “It’s like you don’t know me at all anymore. What’s going on, Harry?” I try to look away from her but she just continues “Why have you been different?”
Immediately, I answer, “What do you mean, Viv? I haven’t been different.”
“Yes you have!” her voice almost projects for everyone to hear, “You have and you know it! Don’t act like the past few months you’ve been the same, because you haven’t.” I stay quiet to let her continue, almost not even listening to her as she goes on and on about how distant I’ve been. Then she ends with, “What is going on?” she says slowly and emphasizing every word.
“Nothing, Vivian.” I turn away from her stare and bite my sandwich. “I don’t want to talk about it.” I say thinking she couldn’t hear.
“What do you mean you don’t want to talk about it? You know I’m not going to let this go.” Every little thing she says and does ticks me off. I throw down my sandwich and look straight at her and I reach down and get my backpack, “Well, maybe you should.” and I stand up and walk away heading out of the cafeteria.
I’ve had enough of Vivian. I can’t stand to look at her and the people she calls my friends. As I head for the door, I notice a familiar profile—it’s Gabby. I can’t even acknowledge her because I just knowthat Vivian is walking right behind me. I can’t dare to look behind me at her, that’ll just encourage her to follow me. So instead, I walk right past Gabby and her friends and out the cafeteria doors.
I don’t know exactly where I’m heading, but anywhere to get away from Vivian. I keep my pace steady but quick until I reach a hallway of lockers. The anger inside me builds up and makes me stop in the middle of the hallway and kick the lockers, turn around throwing my backpack off my shoulder feet away from me, and throw my hands onto my head and lean against the lockers. The rage pulls me down slowly to the ground. I sit on my bum resting my elbows on my knees that are propped up. I run my fingers through my hair and keep them there as I just think and let everything out. I hear footsteps coming from the hallway and they stop at the corner that leads to where I am. I take a deep sigh as I know it’s Vivian.
The foot steps start up again, this time not as hurried, but cautious. Slow, quiet, and cautious. That’s not like Vivian. It’s probably just someone from a class going to his locker.
“Harry?”
I shake my hair and slide it to the side as I recognize the voice. I look up to see her.
Gabby’s POV
I start smiling as I think of what I should wear the next day to school. Maybe I should change slowly—not so drastic. Maybe… instead of a t-shirt… a nice sweater? My thoughts are interrupted as I hear fast heavy steps come from my left side. I don’t bother to look and see who it could be, it might be no one for me. But then I see his profile walk right in front of me and out the cafeteria door. His face was angered, I could tell something wasn’t right. Ellie noticed my stare at him, and nudged me to go follow him. And clumsily, I get up from my seat look behind me to not have Vivian anywhere in sight and run out the door behind him. I reach the door and take one last look at my friends and they all give me a thumbs up to continue.
He was walking too fast for me to catch up, so I pick up a slow jog and right as I do I hear a loud crash of lockers—that has to be him. I reach the end of the hallway and look down the corner to see him sitting there against the lockers. I pause and think it’s now or never. I slowly walk up to him, I must be quiet enough that he doesn’t even hear me. Either that, or he’s just ignoring his surroundings. I stop as I reach him and stand before him. I take a breath and say, “Harry?”
He shakes his hair and slides it to his right side, the way that always makes me melt. But I hold it in as he just stares up at me, almost surprised I showed up.
“Gabri—Gabby,” he corrects himself, “hey.”
I begin to play with my fingers, and fix myself so now my thumbs are in both pockets, “Are you,” I take out my right hand and gesture toward the corner I came from, “are you okay?”
He starts a beat for a second against his knees and looks around, “Yeah,” he stops and looks up at me patting his right hand on the floor beside him, “Sit with me?” I can’t say no to those beautiful green eyes, and that smile of his that’s so welcoming.
I smile and crouch down next to him sitting about half of a foot away. “So, is everything all right? I saw you walk out of the cafeteria in a hurry.”
“So, you followed me?” he turns his head to me and smiles.
I blush in embarrassment. Shit. I shouldn’t have followed him. He notices my blush and attempt to slur something together.
“Hah, no, I don’t really care, I’m just happy you’re not Vivian right now. I thought she would follow me since she’s so far up my ass…” his last sentence is quieter and fades out as he looks in the other direction—the one I came from—for a sighting of Vivian.
I start to speak causing his head to whip around back to me, “I—uh, I looked to see if she was coming after you before I walked out.” I notice I have his full attention. “I didn’t see her.”
He widened his eyes and nodded his head, “Thank God.” and looks forward, “She’s been on my case lately about everything.”
I felt bad asking what for, I didn’t want to intrude on his love life with her, no matter how badly I wanted to kill it. But he just came out with it anyway.
“She thinks I’m being distant, and something’s on my mind that for once isn’t her, you probably know how big she thinks of herself,” he turns his head to me, “right?”
I catch myself gazing at his profile until he looks at me and I slur, “R-right!” and he nods accepting my answer, “I’ve known her since grade school, it was awful.” I gently throw my head back on the lockers and he does the same.
“Oh, really? How so?” Is Harry Styles engaging in a conversation with me about his girlfriend?
“Just normal Vivian things. Make everyone think less of themselves, rule the school, normal Miss Popular things.” I’m calm in front of him for once. I let my head roll on the lockers to the direction of his so I’m looking at him, “I bet girls were like that in the U.K., right?”
With his head facing me, he looks off into the distance and lowers his jaw as he remembers his childhood. “Mmmm… no. Girls were fairly nice from what I remember.”
“Must be nice.” I say rolling my head back so I was looking forward. I begin to think aloud, “Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to go to London.”
I almost jump at his answer because I didn’t think I was actually speaking my thoughts. “It’s a very nice city.” I notice his head roll to look at my profile, “I’ll have to take you sometime.” and smiles his famous melting smile.
I whip my head toward his as I contemplate was this just real? Has Harry Styles just invited me to see London?
“What the hell is this?” my thoughts were interrupted. Harry and I look in the direction of the hallway where we both came from and see Vivian standing a few feet away from us.
…Shit.
Sound of Love; Chapter Seven
Another week later
Natalie’s POV
Everyone has their own way with coping. I think I’m taking this whole end of One Direction quite well. I still cry rivers every day, but I’m gradually getting better. I actually have to take a train out to go to Eleanor’s funeral. She took a knife to her chest, ending her life to be with Louis. She gives me another reason to cry. I know I just met her literally a couple weeks ago, but it’s scary going to a funeral of your new close friend—best friend, actually. Knowing that you just saw her a couple weeks ago, and Skyped with her the day before she ended her life.
I’m meeting Adora, Danielle and Ashley so we can go to the funeral together. It feels like I just saw them, because I have, but I miss them so much. Eleanor and I have gotten really close since we met. We both lived in London, so we would stop by every now and then to vent or just to say hi. She would text me daily and that’s actually how I knew something was wrong.
“Hey Elle! What are you doing today? I was thinking maybe we could meet up and spend the day together!”
“Oh, I’m just sitting at home thinking about Louis. I’m not really in the mood to go out today.”
“Oh, well maybe I could come over? I can keep you company?”
“No, that’s okay, I just want to be alone.”
“Are you sure? It’s not a a problem for me to drive and come over”
“Nat, really. Please. I want to be alone today.”
That didn’t stop me from taking my car keys and driving to her flat. I know she’s been weird since Louis died, and she was just starting to be normal again since she found the ring. Her wanting to be alone was her first outburst of abnormality, and I just didn’t trust her.
I got to her flat almost just in time. Almost.
Her door was already unlocked, and I heard her crying. I walk in and drop my purse following her sobs over the counter of the kitchen. There she was. Sitting on the floor against the lower cabinets, the bloody knife next to her, and blood pouring out of her chest. I tried to keep my cool. I knelt down next to her, trying to stop the constant bleeding when she spoke through her sobs, “What have I done?”.
Watching her like that was breaking me. But I had to be her rock at that moment.
I call and ambulance as I try to keep her with me. I wrap towels around her chest to stop the bleeding and laying her down so it doesn’t leave her body. “It’s okay, Elle, everything is going to be okay.”
And that’s when she went crazy.
“I DON’T WANT IT TO BE OKAY, I WANT TO BE WITH LOUIS. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I CAN BE WITH HIM. WHY DID HE LEAVE ME. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN. WE COULD’VE HAD THE BEST FUTURE TOGETHER.” she tried to get out of my grip as she waved her hand to show me the ring placed on her wedding finger. I tried to quiet her, “Shh, shh, it’s okay, I know you want to be with Louis, I want to be with Harry, but they’re watching over us right now! Shh, Lou doesn’t want to see you like this!” She stopped throwing fits, and just stared at me through her watery eyes.
I felt so bad, she looked so heartbroken.
Her voice became weak as she spoke, “Nat, am I going to make it?”
That’s when I couldn’t hide it anymore. The tears slid down my face.
I try to smile but it failed as I said, “I hope so, Elle, I really do.”
Her eyes started to drop, and I knew that she was leaving. I started to panic, I heard the ambulance sirens just outside.
“No, no, Elle, stay with me, come on hun, you can do this. Just for a few moments.” Her eyes open half way, as she weakly said, “You’re my best friend, Nat, I love you.”
I broke down.
“I love you too, Elle.”
at that last moment, she was still conscious.
But not when we got to the hospital. She didn’t make it. The doctors told me that she died before they even got to her into the ambulance. I watched my best friend die.
I’ll never be the same.
Adora’s POV
I can’t keep flying in and out like this. It’s becoming expensive. But I know there are reasons why I have to keep flying to England; reasons that are worth it.
The first time, was to go to the memorial museum for Niall and the boys. That was worth it, I found out that Niall loves me and never forgot me! I also made the four best friends of my life that day. Well, maybe they’re not my best friends yet, but they’re definitely some of my closest.
That’s the second reason why I’m flying back to England. For Eleanor. She killed herself and while Natalie was there. Nat was actually the one to call me. I heard the tears in her shaky voice and I knew it was something bad. I couldn’t make out her words through the Skype call from her phone, but I got, “Eleanor”, “blood,” and “hospital” and I saw her in a waiting room and I knew, I just knew it couldn’t have a good ending.
Turns out, she lost a hell of a lot of blood, and she didn’t make it even into the ambulance. I broke down when Nat told me the full story. I couldn’t bare to lose a close person to me like Niall, imagine losing him and a close friend within two and a half months? It’s scary. It makes me feel like nothing is sane anymore.
Remember that Irish guy that was in France for a few weeks with his friends? Well we got really close. I met his friends, and they remind me of Niall and his friends when I met them. It only makes me miss him and the childhood we shared for a year even more, but this is a new beginning. He said that his friends were looking for schools abroad that they can go to, lucky for me, they all really liked the one in France. I’m blessed. I really am.
But I put Aiden aside for a moment. Eleanor and the girls are more important right now. I’m only going to be here for a few days and Ashley and I are staying with Nat. As the plane starts to land, I think about how Ellie could have done this.
To me, as cruel as it may sound, it makes sense. She was in denial about Louis’ death. She didn’t believe he was gone; she thought he would come back and that it was all a joke. She drove herself insane. Then she saw the video of her and Louis, and it all came to her, that Louis’ dead. He’s gone and not coming back. And as if that wasn’t enough, she found the ring that he was going to propose marriage to her. It was too much for her to handle, and she ended her life.
I cry just thinking about it. It gives me the chills that I had just met her, saw her, cried with her, Skyped with her, and now I’ll never see her again. It’s scary to think that. I wish it was all a dream and I would just wake up already. But each pinch, I’m in the same position and I know it’s reality.
Eleanor’s POV
One moment, I’m laying on my kitchen floor wrapped up in bloody towels with Nat holding my hand and we’re both crying. I told her she was my best friend and that I loved her. Then the next, there was no pain. I felt so light and delicate, and that everything around me was too. I saw this bright light, but dim enough for me to look right at it, and I saw these flashing dots, like they were twinkly lights.
And then there was this tunnel. This dark, pitch black tunnel that looked like it had no end. But then I saw this… orb, way far out in the distance. I feel like my whole body is numb and walk toward the orb. It starts shining—it’s not an orb. As I walk closer, I find the shining orb is actually a light—the end of the tunnel. Again, I walk closer, faster this time, and I see this black figure standing in the middle of the light. I pick up my pace as the figure becomes more detailed and I declare it’s Louis.
But Louis’ dead? And that’s when I realized, I’m in heaven. With Louis. Even though I gave my life in such a horrid way, he guided me to heaven to be with him. Where I belong—where we belong.
I’m not even 10 feet away from him, and I can feel the warmth and comfort he has, it’s like it’s generating off of him. I also feel the forgiveness in his smile for me.
I approach him, and he says to me, “Why did you do it?” his voice is echoing. It’s not a stable voice, it’s very faint, like he’s shouting from miles away.
I reply, “To be with you.” my voice, too, as an echo.
He shakes his head looking down and back up at me smiling, “I was watching over you, Eleanore, I was protecting you.”
“How was I supposed to know that?” I say to him.
“Because you heard my voice and found the ring. You know I love you, I would have guided you through life.”
“But I wanted my life to be with you.”
“I watched you die Eleanor, I watched your soul leave your body and I caught it, bringing it to where you are now.”
And as he said that, I saw four boys come out of no where and stand beside him. The love these boys have is just shining off of them. Louis steps forward and brings me into a hug, “I’m happy to be with you though, but I never left your side after my soul left my body.” he whispers in my ear.
He lets go of the hug and I hug the rest of the boys I thought I would never see again. I look down at my chest, and I look pristine. Like nothing had ever happened to me. This is what heaven is like.
Danielle’s POV
Now this is too much for me. Eleanor’s given her life to be with Louis, and I just can’t take another death about someone who I was getting close too. Is this becoming a ritual? Is someone else close to me going to pass in a month or something?
I mean, it’s not a problem for me to get there, I live right here in London. But I’m on the other side of London, away from where Natalie and Eleanor live. I heard from Natalie how Eleanor gave her life; how she watched it. I don’t know how I would be right now if I were Natalie. I’d probably go crazy. Its hard enough, on her part. Finding out her childhood crush never forgot her, and not being able to at least see him before he’s gone. And spending the last how many years missing him and not thinking that he felt the same. Now her best friend killed herself and she watched it. It’s so sad because Natalie and Eleanor were getting so close; they talked about anything together, and I would often get invited when they would hang out almost daily. It was easier for us to meet up, because we all live in London. But like I said, I live on the other side of town and I can’t always make it.
At least I just saw Liam before he left. I miss him like hell, but it’s hard for me to cope. Yes, Owen’s been really nice to me and spending a lot of time with me lately, but it just doesn’t hide the fact that Liam’s gone—or that Eleanor’s gone. But in weird ways, Owen’s just like Liam, it’s scary.
I get in my car and drive to Natalie’s house where I’ll meet her Adora and Ashley. It’s going to be weird seeing all of them without Eleanor there. She’ll be there in spirit, but I mean without her physically there.
I’m half way there and I’m thinking, why would she do this? I get it, to be with Louis, but I want to be with Liam just as much as anyone else.
And that’s when I had to pull over my car, and sob.
I can’t take not being with Liam. It’s hard not having him here. I sound so utterly self centered, but that’s how I feel. Owen can’t simply replace Liam. Not at a time like this. But maybe it’ll help.
“Hello?” I hear on the other end after the phone rung three times.
“Owen, I can’t do this.” I say choking back the tears.
“Ok, where are you?” he says with concern.
“I’m parked downtown, near where you and I met that one time.” my voice cracks multiple times and took me almost forever just to say that sentence.
“Just, wait, I’ll be right there.” and hangs up the phone.
I don’t know why, but when I heard the dead line, it made me cry even harder. Another person has left me. That’s what it felt like. But in reality I know that’s not the case. He was coming to comfort me. Just like Liam would have. God, I really miss him.
About five minutes after I call Owen, I hear a tapping on my passenger’s window, and it’s him. I unlock the doors and let him in.
“Hey…” he says as he sits himself into my car. “How are you?”
“What do you think? Look at me!” I say crossing my arms on my steering wheel and resting my forehead on it.
“Don’t beat yourself up over this,” he says rubbing my arm and trying to look me in the eye, “I know things are hard right now, but it’s a part of life. No matter how or when one leaves, it does good in the end,” I look up at him almost offended. “because that person is watching over you, and is always with you.” I try to respond, but I just can’t. I just can’t. “Eleanor didn’t believe or even think that Louis and the boys were watching over her. She thought she had to actually be with him to know that he was with her. Please, don’t make that mistake.” I look at him. Tears fill his perfect eyes. “The girls won’t be able to lose another loved one, and I won’t be able to handle it either.”
That, somehow, made me cry the most I have in months. How did he read my mind like that? That I was breaking down to that solution? How did he have that affect on me to make me so emotional? But in a good way. The way Liam did.
The tears slowly run away leaving me with red, puffy eyes and stained cheeks. “Thank you,” I say as I try to wipe away my face, “so much, for being here for me on such short notice.” I chuckle at the end.
I notice his smile and I can tell its genuine. “Don’t mention it.” he leans in, only inches away from my face and whispers, “You’re worth it.”
I gulp as my lips are still quivering, “I uhm, I better get to Natalie’s. I’m going to be late.” he sits back into the seat. “You’re right. It was nice seeing you, Danielle.” he says to me kindly as he steps out of my car.
“You too.” I whisper, even though he can’t hear it.
Ashley’s POV
How is it, that something as little as a phone call would contain so much emotion and get one thinking? How is that? It doesn’t sound possible, but it is. I remember my phone ringing from my Skype account, to see it’s Natalie. I’m thinking she’s calling me about Harry or the boys, but no. I see her in what was the hospital waiting room, her eyes completely red and filled with tears, she looked so drained.
“I saw,” “Eleanor,” “knife,” “blood,” “help,” was all I got through her hysterical crying. I calm her down, she takes a few deep breaths and tells me the whole story, much clearer than the first time.
It’s devastating getting a call like that. My emotions dropped and were sprawled out everywhere. I felt my limbs go numb and I wanted to collapse and cry it out. I was getting so close to these girls and I never imagined all of us but minus one. Eleanor was the one that kept us all together, she would often start the Skype calls if it wasn’t Natalie. I can’t picture this friendship without Eleanor.
But I understand why she would do this. I noticed when she didn’t cry until she saw that video that she was in major denial about the boys. But when it hit her that Louis was gone, it was like the climax of emotions. Tears just poured out of her; I didn’t think so many tears could come out of such a little woman. It was unbelievable. And when she showed us that ring—forget it, we were all a wreck for her. Could you imagine, losing your boyfriend that was like your other half, and then finding the ring he was going to propose marriage with? It just blows my mind.
Eleanore was becoming normal, or at least seemed it. I didn’t think that she would take it so hard as to end her life. But I’m happy for her. She’s with Louis now, even though he was watching over her since the moment he died.
Natalie picks up Adora and I from the airport and the whole car ride pack to her place was silent. Then finally, Adora said, “It’s nice seeing you girls again.”
“Yeah, I’m happy we’re all together again.” Natalie comments and forces a smile.
“Eleanor’s watching over us.” I say from the back seat. “She’s still with us.”
There is a silence. Then finally Natalie sighs as she switches lanes, “Yeah, you’re right, Ash,” she pauses to concentrate on the road, “I mean, she’s happy now. She’s with the boys.”
“Yeah, what can be so bad about that? She’s safe.” Adora says looking out her window.
None of us seem to be making eye contact. When we do, all we see is Eleanor missing. It hurts not to have her here. I always pictured when we would be together again months from now whether they come to America, or we all go to France, something. Just the five of us. But things happen, and now we’re one man down but she’s with us in spirit. She’s always going to be with us.
The rest of the ride to Natalie’s house was quiet with a little bit of side comments until we got back to her house. We pull up to the curb in front of her flat, and we see Danielle waiting for us.
We all get out of the car to hug her, and we all hug each other, this feels right. It feels so right to be with my best friends. It’s different not having Eleanor here, but she’s in the middle of this group hug. I feel her presence. I feel at home with them. I don’t think I can ever give these girls up for anything.
Sound of Love; Chapter Six
One week later.
Natalie’s POV
It has been a week since I’ve found out Harry loves me. There’s so much emotion in me and I cry almost every time I think or talk about it. My new friends in London knew about my friendship with Harry, so they all knew of him before he was famous. But none of them knew him like I did. Except my one friend, Brenna, she’s like my other half. She was my first friend when I moved to London, and we’ve been best friends ever since. I told her all these stories about Harry and I, including the kiss, and she really knew everything I know. Almost like she knew him too. She has been there for me since the phone call telling me about his tragic passing, to now and continuing. I’m so thankful to have a friend like her. She understands what I’m going through. She’s the only person that knew that I love Harry before he died. She cried of happiness for me and with me when I told her that I heard his solo.
Ever since the private tour I took with those girls, we’ve been close as ever. Well, as close as we can get. Ashley’s in America, Adora’s in France, and Danielle and Eleanor aren’t too far. But we still have Skype sessions whenever we can, which is great! This past week, we’ve been talking a lot about the boys, and sharing a lot of stories about them, and I really got to know these girls. I think we’re all still hung up over it, it’s only been a week.
But now it’s like a weight off my shoulder knowing that he loves me and always will. I will never stop loving Harry, but it’s not like I can be with him. I need to learn how to move on. He will always be in my heart and he will always have a piece of mine, but I think it’s time that I realize that I need to move on. I’ve spent years loving and chasing him, but it’s like I’m running in place; I’m not getting anywhere.
All I wanted to know was that he loves me. That he has and will always. Now that I know that, it’s almost like, well, what do I do now?
I know Harry will guide me to someone that is just as cheeky, funny, charming, kind, protective like him. I trust Harry like that. And I know how much it hurts him that I’m not with him, but I know he wants the best for me; he always has. He’ll lead me toward that special someone that is just like him. I don’t know how long it’ll take for me to find someone like Harry, or someone relatively close to him at all, but I know Harry is always watching over me, and always by my side.
I can’t think of his accident as a bad thing. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it was a tragic thing, but personally. Personally, this is a good thing. Because now I know that he loves me, I can move on with my life.
Thank you, Harry, for showing me how to love and move on. I love you.
Adora’s POV
This past week, has been so emotional, but it’s slowly spiraling back up to bigger and better things. The girls from the tour and I have been talking a lot lately, as much as we can talk in one week. They’ve become my closest friends because they really know what I’m going through. I feel like I can trust them with anything.
I’ve also been coping with Niall’s death by taking a lot of slow walks by myself, you know, just to clear out my mind. I often go on a trail with my iPod, but today feels different. I’m downtown with no iPod, and the biggest smile on my face. I’m extremely happy for some reason.
I’m tuning out everyone and everything and just walking along, looking down at my feet, hands in my pockets, just thinking about and remembering Niall from when we were kids. Even the thought of his name plasters a smile on my face.
And then I feel a tap on my shoulder. I freeze for a millisecond, take a deep breath through my nose and turn around. There he is. One of the most attractive guys I’ve seen in France for a while now.
…But Niall. What about Niall? I curl my lips and think, ‘What if this is Niall guiding me to a new beginning?’ I let out a full smile.
“I’m sorry, is this yours?” his accent isn’t French, it’s Irish. I tilt my head and smile wider, thinking Niall is doing this from above.
This guy is holding my phone in his hand, and I shake my head in bewilderment because I don’t remember dropping it, “Uh… yeah. That’s mine,” I take it from him and put it back into my pocket, “thanks.” and I smile once more.
“Uhm, my name is Aiden,” he smiles and puts his hand out for me to shake, “nice to meet you.”
I accept his greeting and fill in my blank, “I’m Adora,” I gaze with suspicion, “you’re not from here, are you?”
“Oh, no, I’m from Ireland. I’m here with my lads for a few weeks.”
This is definitely Niall guiding me to a relationship he and I would have had. I can tell.
“Oh, really? When did you get here?”
“This morning, actually,” he begins to look around, “and I’ve already lost my friends by the looks of it,” and he smiles down at me, his warm smile contagious, “would you mind showing me around?”
I look into those deep blue eyes almost identical to Niall, and nod in reply, “Of course.”
Thank you, Niall, for guiding me through this tough time losing you, and for helping me cope. I love you.
Eleanor’s POV
The girls have been really supportive through this time, and they know about the ring. They all gasped when I showed them after the tour and cried for and with me. I’m so thankful for friends like them.
I sit in my flat, on my couch leaning toward the coffee table holding the ring, just staring at it. As the tears begin to fill my eyes, I lick my lips and clutch the ring, leaning back into the cushion, bringing my knees to my chin. At one point I tip over and sprawl over the whole couch, just crying over this ring and what it meant. What Lou and I could have had. I just wish I knew about this sooner, I would have gone with him to the signing and concert. That way, we’d be together—die together, even.
I can’t cope anymore. I can’t go another day knowing what Lou wanted, what he was going to do. I can’t live this life anymore. Through the denial, then the realization, and now the coping, it’s all just too much and suddenly it’s just all crashing down on me. I’ve been an emotional wreck this past week and I can’t take it anymore! I love everyone that was there for me throughout my years, and especially through the death of Louis Tomlinson.
But in the end, I love him and I need to be with him. I need to be with Lou. And since he can’t come to me, well, I guess I’ll have to go to him.
Thank you, God for this life you’ve given me, and the opportunity to meet Louis and to love him.
I place the ring on my left hand where my fourth finger meets my knuckle, bite my quivering lip as the tears begin to slide again down my cheek.
This is goodbye.
I pause for another moment, think again if this is what I want to do.
All’s truly,
Eleanor Calder
I put down the pen and pick up the note walking over to the kitchen. I place down the note next to the stand of knives. I pick out which one is the sharpest, and the biggest, point it to myself, deeply breathing and tears streaming down my face. I gulp and shake and then finally, pull it towards my chest just like Juliet did for Romeo.
I drop to the ground letting the blood start to rapidly pour out of my body.
I begin to feel regret for doing this to myself—it’s not what Louis would have wanted me to do. At all, or to myself. He wouldn’t be proud.
What have I done?
Danielle’s POV
The girls I met at the tour were absolutely amazing. They’ve been there for me, I’ve been there for them, we’ve been there for each other; it’s a great relationship we’ve all formed. Life without Liam was always unimaginable, and now that it’s here… I… I just have to deal with it. It’s hard as ever, because I’ve known him for a couple years, and he’s treated me like I was a princess—his princess.
Imagine living the best life in the world. Now relate it to a a sculpture, and it’s only the best because of that one layer of glue is keeping it all together. What happens when the glue gets weak and loses it’s affect? Everything crashes down. Well, Liam was that layer of glue. Without him, I’m falling apart and I’m shriveling up to nothing.
I remember the moments when I was crying, and I was a total wreck, and Liam would walk in, or call me just at the right moment. The climax of my breakdown, no matter what the cause of it was. He would walk in with that comforting smile, inviting me to just run up to him and hug him until everything is okay. He was my rock. Being with him made everything okay. But now that he’s the reason for all these tears, and that he’s not physically here for me to just run up and latch onto him like I used to with moments like these, it’s so difficult doing so. I lose all hope that I’ll find someone like him. Or someone at all, because he was my only standard. Be Liam Payne. That’s all I wanted in a guy after a year of our relationship.
Right now, I think that a nice carton of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is a great substitute for Liam’s absence. It’s what I did before he came into my life. I make my way over to the nearest convenient store, and walk straight to the ice cream section. A few glass doors down, is already this tall dark and handsome guy. His eyes red and puffy from crying, but trying not to show it. Hah, trying to be a tough guy, I see? But who can I judge at a moment like this? If only he saw my ugly cry about 10 minutes ago. I’m pretty sure my eyes are identical to his.
He opens one of the glass doors in front of him, as I search for the perfect flavor in my view. He freezes. Suddenly I notice he grips the handle of the door and lowers his head, letting out a sniffle, “Sorry,” he says glancing at me, “I’m going through a tough loss. I—,” he glances back at me again, shaking his head and looking up to stop the tears, “I’m sorry.”
I walk over to him putting my hand on his shoulder and saying, “I’m so sorry. Everything will be okay. I’m going through a bit of a tough loss myself, but if it’s going to be okay for me, it’s going to be okay for you. I know it.” He searches my eyes for a moment, then says, “Thank you.” looking back into the freezer. I smile teethless, nod my head, and try to turn to get my Ben and Jerry’s, but he interrupts, “I’m Owen,” he projects by accident, then says quieter, “by the way.” I turn around politely respond, “I’m Danielle.” He squints his eyes at me and slurs together, “You-you wouldn’t happen to be.. uh… Danielle Peazer,” he pauses, “would you?” I half smile looking at the ground and back at him, “Yes, I am.” he walks up to me and hugs me.
I was caught off guard, but it was a genuine hug. Not one of those awkward ones that you give someone you don’t really want to. But his was comforting. And he whispers in my ear, “I’m so sorry about Liam,” he lets go of the hug, but holding my shoulders, “my niece is a huge One Direction fan, she’s one of those really dedicated fans that even knows about their personal lives.” I chuckle and thank him.
He’s a sweet guy, not one of those creeps you usually meet in a mini mart downtown. He then calmly asks, “Would you like to go, maybe, grab some coffee?” and he points his thumb behind him to recognize the coffee shop across the street. When he asked me that, I get this immediate warm feeling that twisted my stomach, but in a good way, that Liam gave me all the time. If someone other than Liam can give me that feeling, I can’t turn down his offer, “Yeah, that sounds great.” I say.
I know it might be too soon to start dating again, this soon after Liam. And I could be totally wrong about this new guy, but something about him has Liam written all over it, and I can’t ignore it. Maybe Liam did this. Maybe Liam led this guy to me, this could be fate.
Thank you, Liam, for the years of love you’ve given me. You’ve showed me a new friendship, and led me to a new beginning. I love you, and will never forget you.
Ashley’s POV
It feels so great being able to say that I have friends in Europe, and we actually are really close. We Skype whenever we can, but it’s only been a week since we’ve met. But they’ve been so supportive on my part, and for the other girls; it’s just a great friendship we’ve formed.
I really miss Zayn. I know that it sounds kind of weird to miss someone more than before, but it’s what I’m feeling. Even though he and I have gone years without seeing each other, just knowing that he’s not walking this earth anymore scares me. Because when he was alive and famous, I had the knowledge that he was okay. And I was a professional fangirl, so missing him was up to a minimum because I stalked him to make sure he was okay. But now that’s all over. It almost kills me how much I miss him; it’s sickening.
I go to the beach everyday where he and I spent most of our time together. Mainly in the morning or late at night when no one’s there. It’s so peaceful and relaxing when I’m to myself and my thoughts. I mainly think about Zayn and look at my bracelet that connected us. Since I’m alone, I speak aloud to talk to Zayn, hoping he would pay attention from above.
Saying that I cry everyday is an understatement, because I still bawl my eyes out that he’s not here. But I only cry when I’m here at the beach alone so no one can hear or see me. Sometimes I try to tell myself to stop crying, that it’s been almost two months since he died, and it’s not like we were dating or anything; I knew him for a month when we were kids. But he was my first love, I cried even when he left that summer, and I every summer because I knew he wouldn’t come back to America.
When I’m at the beach, I get this feeling back to when I was a kid, and all the memories flood back. I hear our laughs, feel the happiness inside me being with him, and even feel his hand intertwined with mine. Everything was so easy when we were kids. There was minimal worry, less stress, and a carefree life.
I only hope Zayn is watching over me and is my protective guardian angel. Somehow I just know that he already is. I can feel his presence around me and I feel so safe.
Thank you, Zayn, for showing me what love feels like, even if you’re not physically here, I know you’re here in spirit and watching over me. I love you.
Sound of Love; Chapter Five
Natalie’s POV
I knew these girls and I had something in common. I could just feel it from the moment we all had to meet for our private tour. I wasn’t expecting them to all have personally known the boys, I thought Adora and Ashley were just dedicated fans that missed the boys. I also wasn’t prepared to see so many pictures of Harry and I from when we were younger to be so cherished. They were in pristine condition, like they were taken just yesterday.
Am I supposed to be told something? By the connections the girls and I had to the boys, and the pictures plastered everywhere of he and I, is that supposed to be telling me something?
They very unenthusiastic, effortless, almost forgotten tour guide person stopped us before these two huge doors that read, “THE END”, and I thought… the end? The end of the tour? That’s crazy! We were promised a full tour with the finale of standing on the crash scene. Then it took me a second to realize, that by saying the end… it meant the end of everything. The boys, the fandom, the songs, the humour, the everything they consisted of.
“Now, girls, I hope you enjoyed reminiscing the lives you’ve shared with these boys, through the laughs and the tears, we are now done with our tour. But first, we stand before the exact spot where the boys crashed. Are you girls ready?” The tour guy said in his soothing voice.
And in my mind I thought, “Yes! Let’s get on to it already!” but really I had to take a moment to prepare myself for what i’m about to hear or not hear. What if I was just a crush to Harry for only a couple months after I left? What if he really did forget me, and those pictures were just a memory? What if Harry doesn’t love me? If I go through those doors, and I don’t hear one of Harry’s solos, I’ll be humiliated. I’ll cry of rejection after all these years I wasted remembering him; loving him. The tour guy, I think his name was Chris, was understanding enough to let us gather ourselves before we go out there. None of us said anything, Chris just kind of knew. He knew what we were going through. He witnessed us cry over these boys as we walked through their wings. But finally, when we all adjusted ourselves, Chris raised his eyebrows and said, “Ladies? Are you ready?” and we all took a deep breath almost in unison, and nodded. I did so closing my eyes to practice holding the tears I know I will let waterfall down my face anyway. Then finally, he said “Okay, here we go.” and with that, opened one of the huge doors with a security guard’s help on the other side. I felt a gust of wind hit my face, and it snaps my eyes wide open.
And I see… everything. Literally everything. The remains of the plane are still crushed against the ground. The whole scene is closed in by a glass dome for protection. I see ripped seats, broken glass, burned materials. The seats the boys were killed on the spot, and there was no way they were running about on the plane. These boys suffered a death in a plane seat. No wonder these seats are labeled with their names.
Somehow, Harry’s name is the first to catch my eye. It was the first thing I saw before I examined the whole scene. Without thinking, I began to slowly walk toward it. This moment will prove whether Harry loves me or not.
I take a deep breath before I stand right before his torn seat, half burned. I remain silent. A moment passes where all five of us are silent. I don’t hear anything. He never loved me. I never thought i’d find out like this. I stare right at the seat where his name was sown in, and a tear drops down my face. And that’s when I heard it.
“If we could only have this life for one more day; if we could only turn back time”
I was in shock. The sound of his voice was so faint. I could barely hear it. Of course, I didn’t hear the music, but the sound of his voice was music enough. There was a slight silence where I had to myself to cry. Then I heard his voice again.
“And well there must have been a time, I was the reason for that smile. So keep in mind.”
Again. It was very faint. Almost inaudible. But I can recognize his voice anywhere. And those lyrics, were completely right. He was the reason for my smile. I really loved Harry, he made me so happy, even just thinking about him put a smile on my face instantly. Right when I thought it was over, I heard his voice again, this time, a little bit louder.
“All that you want is under your nose. You should open your eyes but they stay close. What you want, what you need has been right here. I can see that you’re holding back those tears.”
And that’s when I broke down. I began sobbing uncontrollably and gave up trying to stop it. He is all I want and he is what I need. And to think all those years before he was famous, he was literally a train ride away. I knew he was there, I don’t know why I was scared. All these years, I could have been with Harry. Once more, I hear his angelic voice.
“Under the lights tonight, you turned around and you stole my heart with just one look. When I saw your face, I fell in love. It took a minute girl, to steal my heart tonight. I waited for a girl like you. Stay here tonight, because there’s so much that I want to say.”
I never really realized the first time we’ve ever talked, that his face lit up at his first sight of me. How many of his solos am I going to hear? Not that I’m complaining, I’ve waiting much too long to hear his voice again. At this point I’m literally sobbing, I lower myself down to the ground because standing suddenly took too much effort.
“Shot me out of the sky, you’re my kryptonite. You keep making me weak, frozen and can’t breathe. You’ve got that one thing.”
One Thing was always my absolute favorite song because of Harry’s solo. It just sounded so perfect with every note he hit. And the meaning behind the lyrics, I have the one thing that can leave him absolutely breathless. If another one of his solos plays, I swear. I won’t be able to handle myself.
“I had to take you and make you mine, whatever it takes its fine. I wont be leaving until I finish stealing every piece of your heart. I’m only here because you stole my heart.”
He’s gone because he loved me. That’s not true. He’s always loved me. If he didn’t, I wouldn’t be hearing his voice. Like the rumour has it, “only the ones he loved can hear him.” But the lyrics are wrong. If I never loved him, I wouldn’t be here. If anything, I should be the one saying those lyrics. I’m only here because he stole my heart.
I wait for anymore of his voice to whisper in my ear like they have slowly for the past five minutes. At last, I hear very very faintly, “I love you, Natalie.” which made the tears downpour my cheeks. It was said so faintly, I think I almost hallucinated it. But the voice has such substance to it, almost like he was softly whispering it into my ear.
This day has showed me to trust my first instinct. If I just had taken that train back to Holmes Chapel, no matter how many years have passed, I would have had the best relationship with Harry. Just by the sound of his voice, I could tell he was watching over me. I’m so lucky, so blessed, to have Harry Styles as my guardian angel.
I love you so much, Harry. I love you.
Adora’s POV
This is the end of our tour. This is the finale. This is the moment of truth. As soon as those big doors open, the girls and I instantly go into our own little worlds. I would know because I made my own. I instantly forgot that there were people around me. I just took everything in. This is how Niall died? Things are burned? What happened.
As I walk closer to the actual remains of the plane itself, I find Niall’s assigned seat that has his name sown into the head rest. I immediately hear a faint whisper, I turn around thinking it’s one of the girls, but why would she sing to me,
“It hurts me to think that you’ve ever cried.”
Once I find that no one is behind me, that’s when I knew. I was hearing one of Niall’s solo. I didn’t know this was the spot where he died. But that makes sense. None of them would be fooling around when the plane is in emergency. All passengers are asked to sit in their seats. It breaks my heart to think Niall and the boys had to suffer a tragic death this way. But those lyrics have a meaning to me now, than ever before. He always knew when I was even the slightest bit upset in and out of lessons. When we hung out, I would have this great mood that put a smile on his face, but when I was down, he almost mimicked my emotions. It’s like we had the same feelings, or playing a game of fallow the leader. It hurts him to think that I’ve ever cried? Oh, Niall!
“I wanna take you and make you mine. Whatever it takes it’s fine.”
Another solo? With just as much emotion and meaning as the last one? He always went out of my way to make me happy, there’s no surprise there that he would do anything to make me his. If only I knew that Niall loved me when we were in school. But we kept touch for a few months after I left. Maybe it was too painful for him to ever let me go, so his only solution was to drop me completely. Even though, his solution was more painful than the actual situation. I would have been Niall’s in a heartbeat. That’s all it took.
“Yes I like the way you smile with your eyes. Other guys see you but don’t realize that it’s my, my loving. There’s something about your laugh that it makes me want to have to, there’s nothing funny so we laugh at no-no-nothing.”
There was never a moment where my smile didn’t touch my eyes. That’s how happy I always was. Because when I was younger, I thought I only get this life once, this easy life. That I should make it the best, and smile when I can. I always smiled back then. And since I was french, it was different from the Irish in all the girls. I was well liked that year by the boys. But Niall claimed me as his. I just think that’s adorable. Niall’s laugh was always contagious, even if it was just a giggle, it always made me laugh. And whenever I laughed, he would laugh harder, and after about five minutes of laughing like idiots, we realized we had nothing to laugh at. Niall and I always had that little connection. That was something I really admires about our friendship.
“Now I’m climbing the walls but you don’t notice at all that im going out of my mind all day and all night.”
Niall was always a really loud and outgoing guy, but when it was just us in a little group of friends hanging out, he got quieter and I would notice he would keep looking at me and smiling. He was always really cute that way. I really really liked him when we were kids, it sometimes even drove me crazy. I never knew that he was going out of his mind for me. But that just makes me love him even more.
“Close the door, throw the key, don’t wanna be reminded, don’t wanna be seen. Don’t wanna be without you. My judgment’s clouded, like tonight’s sky.”
Together, he and I did the weirdest, yet most normal things. And he often made the moment last, which is what I loved most about him. He would never ask when we’re going home, or what time it was, he just always wanted to have a good time with his friends. And clearly, me, because looking back on all of our memories we shared for that one school year, he always wanted to be near me. The closer he was, the bigger the smile on his face. And that just makes my heart melt. And after I left, he couldn’t get it in my head that I was really back in France—for good. Oh, Niall! I can only imagine how crazy he went after I never came back.
“If I’m louder, would you see me? Would you lay down, in my arms and rescue me? Because we are, the same. You saved me; when you leave it’s gone again.”
Like I said before, I was different from the other girls in Mullingar. I was well liked by the boys. I feel so bad because now, I realize that I got a lot of attention from the boys, and barely had enough for Niall to concentrate on him. But I felt bad just throwing away all the other boys, that’s rude. But now I feel so guilty putting Niall through that. I did notice Niall, yeah we hung out a lot, but every where I went, I was noticed by at least two or three other guys in Mullingar. Gosh, I feel so bad! I’ve lost Niall. He’s not coming back.
“Words will be just words, until you bring them to life.”
This solo, however, I hear louder than the others. Did this one have more meaning? I realized throughout the other solos that each word told a story that was supposed to explain our lives together. But this, I can’t seem to make a connection to it. Words, are just words, until they become real. Becaue once they’re alive, they’re real. Is he talking about saying he loves me? I get it now, he always had thought and said that he loves me, but now that I’m here and I am able to hear his solos, the love is alive.
Niall Horan, I’m so sorry I left. I never ever wanted to go back to France because then I was away from you. Niall, I love you.
Eleanor’s POV
The second I walk through the doors, I lost it. It took everything I had to stop the tears, but it just wasn’t worth it. My cheeks were already stained from the previous tears. Might as well cry until it’s out of my system, which I doubt will ever happen.
I immediately lock my eyes at the sight of Louis’ name on the head piece of the chair. I read it over nad over again trying to bring him back into my life. To make him stand before me as if nothing ever happened. I’m a total wreck when someone I really care about passes. It’s so hard to cope with Lou gone. Even if I was in denial for the past month, seeing his childhood and his memories in that building… it broke me. It made me realize he was really gone.
“I want to save you; I want you save your heart tonight. He’ll only break you, leave you torn apart.”
In a hushed tone, I hear one of Lou’s solos. I almost forgot about the whole confirmed rumour. Are these lyrics supposed to mean something? Supposed to tell me something? Is he speaking about himself? He doesn’t need to save me. Yes, he left me torn apart and broken, but he doesn’t need to save me. I just need to know that he’s watching over me as my guardian angel, that’s how he can save me. He can guide me through life. Stand beside me wherever I go and whatever I come across. I don’t think I should be sad about this, this can be a great thing. I am protected by probably the best man on earth, even if he’s not physically here. I know he’s here.
“I know your heart has been broken, but don’t you give up. I’ll be there, yeah, I know it, you fix you with love.”
Losing Louis and actually knowing that he’s gone and won’t come back absolutely breaks me. But I should be happy. Lou’s here with me to help me get through this tough time. Louis will give me signs to show me that everything is going to be okay. Lou gave me this stuffed elephant to remember him by whenever he’s not with me, and to give it a squeeze. I know for the next, God knows how long, I’ll remember the guy that gave me that elephant. After all, no one can ignore the elephant in the room.
“It’s all that I can think about, oh, you’re all that I can think about.”
He even told me that I was always on his mind. He gets me tickets to come to his concerts, and he sings to me with such emotion, such passion, it’s almost hard to forget about him. Not like I ever will, but I think now more than ever I really cherish the moments I had with Louis. He was always all I ever thought about. He as always on my mind. From his cheekiest moments, to his most romantic ones, he never left my mind. I’m just worried that I’ll reach a mental state of denial. I don’t want to keep thinking about him and waiting for the day he comes back, because that won’t happen. But as of now, he’s the only subject on my mind.
“Hands are silent, voices numb. I try to scream out my lungs, it makes this harder. And the tears stream down my face.”
This time his voice is a little louder, closer in my ear. Either that or I’m concentrated more on it. It’s almost as if he’s speaking as me. The second I heard the tears stream down my face, that was always my favorite line of More Than This, and Louis knows that. Maybe that’s why he used it out of his multiple solos. I try to scream out to him and I wait for an answer, but there’s nothing. The thought of that sends the tears down my cheeks and my neck and just all over.
“Something’s got to give now, because I’m dying just to know your name. And I need you here with me now, because you’ve got that one thing.”
I instantly go back to the first time we ever met. How I looked at him and I instantly knew. I just knew that we would have something special that would be indescribable. Just the way his smile glowed, his eyes twinkled, and the way his hair just flowed, it all just made my body cover up in goosebumps—the good kind, the ones that get you excited. And from that, I just knew that Louis would be a special person to me. He is literally the male version of me, as the boys compare us. And his voice, “Hi, I’m Louis.” It just fit him so perfectly. He has the one thing that I can’t even name, but I know that there’s something there that makes us mesh so well together.
“Up, up and away, I’ll take you with me.”
One day. I know one of these days when I grow old, and it’s my time, Lou will take me up there to heaven where we will be reunited. Knowing Louis, that day won’t be soon. Everything he wanted for himself, he wanted for me too. He always wished me the best even without saying it. One thing I know he always wanted, was to live his life to the fullest. He never wanted to die young. And I know he wants the same for me. And he will help me through that. Life’s a climb, but Louis’ my rope.
I listen for another solo, or another word, whisper, anything. But nothing. But I was okay with that. It was silent, but a comfortable silence. I felt so safe and so comfortable being where I was. It felt like Louis was sitting right next to me. Things haven’t changed completely. I know Lou is here with me. I am so blessed to have a guy that viewed life in such a way that made it seem not so bad watch over me.
I absently glance over the chair, and I find something shining from with in the unburned fabrics of the chair. I can’t help but stare at it, was it just from the water filling up my eyes? No, it had texture. I reach for it, and pick it up. ….It’s a gorgeous ring. Was this an engagement ring? Louis and I rarely talked about marriage, but we never thought it was going to happen so soon, oh my. Louis was going to propose.
I clutch the ring in my hand and hold it up against my chest and cry silently.
I love you, Louis Tomlinson.
Danielle’s POV
The first thing I thought of when the doors was, “Wow, this is it.” I finally realized that this was the moment I find out if Liam Payne loves me. I have the worst butterflies in my stomach, the ones he always gave me, so I think that’s a good thing.
Without thinking, I walk straight to the open plane and the half burned seats. I don’t even know if these had anything to do with the boys. But something just came over me and guided me toward it. With each step I felt another tear begin to slide down my cheek. This seat has some connection toward Liam, I know it. I reach out my hand to flip it over, and I felt a spark of… something, go through my whole body. And then I see it, “Liam Payne” sown into the head of the seat. Liam died in this chair. My whole body cringes with the shivers that run right through me.
“I’m broken, do you hear me? I’m blinded because you are everything I see. I’m dancing alone. I’m praying that your heart will just turn around. And as I walk up to your door, my head turns to face the floor because I can’t look you in the eyes and say that when he opens his arms and holds you close tonight, it just won’t feel right, because I can love you more than this.”
…Was that it? Is that Liam? The texture in his voice is different than the one on the album, he sounds so real. Like he’s singing with such emotion, and passion. Like he’s concentrated on singing to me. What did those lyrics mean though? That he loves me? Well, of course he did, what am I saying. I’m hearing his solo. Tears of joy and pure happiness race down my already stained cheeks, at the fact that Liam loves me. But why hasn’t he told me? Why did he hide it for so long?
“From the moment I met you, everything changed. I knew I had to get you, whatever the pain. I would walk through the desert, I would walk down the aisle, I would swim all the oceans, just to see you smile.”
He always had this charm to always make me smile. When I see him on the television, I smile like a little girl in the candy store, because that’s what he makes me feel like. He makes me feel so happy. He doesn’t have to do much to make me smile like the complete idiot I am. But I’m happy with the time we’ve spent together. I’m happy I knew him when I did, because I don’t regret anything. His death wasn’t my fault, and had nothing to with me. And I don’t regret ever leaving him or losing touch with him. I feel so bad for Natalie, Adora, and Ashley. They knew the boys for a very short time, and didn’t get to really grow with the fame like Eleanore and I.
But I need to stop wasting my time thinking about the other girls, this is the only time I really get to remember and be with Liam.
“The light shines, it’s getting hot on my shoulder. I don’t mind, this time it doesn’t matter because your friends look good but you look better. Don’t you know all night, I’ve been waiting for a girl like you to come around. I’m weaker, my words fall and they hit the ground. Oh, life, come on ahead, don’t you fail me now. I start to say, ‘I think I love you,’ but I make no sound. You know because all my live, I’ve been waiting for a girl like you to come around.”
Oh, Liam. These lyrics are definitely telling me a story, the story of us. I never realized when he sang these at the concerts, that it had such meaning to our relationship. I’ve loved Liam for a long time now, and I was eager to just say it, but I didn’t want to embarrass myself and come out with it, and he not feel the same way. Liam’s a very conservative guy, he takes things slowly. Yes, he took our relationship seriously, but I didn’t want it to be just another relationship to him. I don’t know what I was thinking. But now I know why Liam waited so long. He was waiting for a girl like me to come around. And he wanted to make sure I was the one before he told me he loved me.
“You know I’ve always got your back girl, so let me be the one you come running to. I say this is just matter of fact girl. You just call my name, I’ll be coming through.” Liam was always there for me. He would sometimes call me out of the blue just to see if I was doing okay. And I loved him for that; I loved him for so many reasons. But now I feel this invisible shield that acts almost like a hug, could this be Liam? I think he’s my guardian angel. I take too many things to heart, but he is my most prized possession. I am so lucky, to have Daddy Direction himself as my guardian angel. I am so blessed.
Thank you, Liam Payne, for being there even if you were physically or not. I will always love you.
Ashley’s POV
Tears pouring down my face like they have this whole tour, almost. From the other girls and their connections to these boys, to standing before the last seat Zayn has ever sat upon. His chair has the most damage from the look of the other chairs that the girls are standing around. His is all torn, and burned, and it just makes me so sad to think Zayn, the love of my life, had to die that way. It’s really heartbreaking. Just like when that summer vacation of his came to an end, and we had to part. It was hard keeping touch since he was so far away. But I always stayed up to date with his life; he’s famous, I can’t help it!
“And you have always been the only one I wanted, and I wanted you to know that without you I can’t face it. All we wanna have is fun but they say that we’re too young, but let them say what they want.”
Every word I heard softly almost in my ear, was not to the beat of the actual song. He just said the words as if he was reading me a letter her wrote. Zayn may not know this, but my mother didn’t want me hanging out with him. She said I was too young to have a boyfriend, and that if I start to like him, I’ll be really hurt when he leaves, because he lives across seas. But he’s right, he’s all I wanted. And he’s all I still want! We had the best summer ever together, even if he was away from his family, he told me, and I’ll never forget, “I live with them, this is my only chance to see you as much as I can see them. They can wait.” that was the moment I fell in love with Zayn Malik.
“I’ll be here by your side, no more fears, no more crying. But if you walk away, I know I’ll fade, because there is nobody else. Can we try one more time? I’ll make it all better?”
Yes, Zayn, I know you’re here with me to assure me that everything is going to be okay. I think of you every time I look at my bracelet. It means the world to me. I just wish he never had to leave so our summer fling would turn into something real. Something I can relate to Danielle and Eleanore with. I just want him back so we can try another time to change things to make it better. It’s almost like those lyrics were written to be said to me. To connect to us.
“Flashing lights in my mind, going back to the time we’re playing games in the street, kicking balls with my feet. There’s a numb in my toes, standing close to the edge. And a pile of my clothes at the end of your bed. As I feel myself fall, make a joke of it all.”
I can’t help but smile when I think back to that summer. I showed him around town and he knew it almost like the back of his hand. And I will never forget that morning when Zayn and I woke up in my room and how mad his mom’s voice mail was, wow she was pissed. But I remember Zayn and I literally laughing about it and blowing it all over. I still have his hoodie that he gave me hanging up in my closet. That was the same night he crashed at my house. We were at the peer and it was oddly cold, and I was trying to cover up my shivers, and the next thing I knew, he was wrapping his jacket around me leaving him in his tshirt. I will never forget that.
“Thank you for showing me who you are underneath. No, thank you, I don’t need another heartless misery. You think I’m doing this to make you jealous, and I know that you hate to hear this, but this is not about you anymore.”
No, thank you for showing me what a first love can feel like. He was my first love, and technically my only love. The few boyfriends I had between that summer and today were nothing even close to what Zayn and I had. And I’m very grateful for that. I normally don’t open up so quickly to new people, but something about Zayn just made me feel so comfortable around him, like I can trust him with anything. That’s the best feeling in the world.
“There’s is no other place that I would rather be than right here with you tonight. As we lay on the ground I put my arms around you, and we can stay here tonight. Because there’s so much I want to say.”
I know for a fact that tonight I’m going to fall asleep in his hoodie so it’s almost like his arms are around me. I haven’t grown much since that summer, I was always a short and petite girl, the hoodie definitely still fits me. There’s so much from that summer that was left unsaid. One month was not enough to fit in all the feelings I had toward him. I could tell he felt the same way. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have gotten these matching bracelets. I would love a reunion with Zayn, he and I can talk for hours, days even.
Oh, Zayn. Zayn Malik. I can’t say it enough. I love you. I love you I love you I love you!
