Did you know that microbeads are too little to be removed by sewage filtration systems? They end up in rivers and oceans, and are eaten by marine life. I'm proud to promote Oriflame products, as they contain absolutely 0% plastic beads, assisting to keep our oceans clean! #ecoresponsible #noplasticbeads #keepouroceansclean #ecofriendly #oriflameuk #sublimebeebeauty https://www.instagram.com/p/CKQ8vpGpm_0/?igshid=16ka20arqix8v
Singapore waters still has life despite pollution, shipping, and land reclaimation. Singapore has lost approximately 60 per cent of its reefs to land reclamation over the years. Did you know that despite all that, we still have over a hundred species left? Go to our shores during low tide and observe the hidden marine life that still exists. This is a hermit crab, nestled amongst the seeweed. These are enlighten times so effort is underway to save our remaining , there's a "Grow-a-Reef Garden" project, a collaboration between JTC and the National Parks Board (NParks) - efforts to protect the coral reefs around Singapore and enhance marine biodiversity in the island's surrounding waters. So don't pick up shells as the crabs need it, or bring home marine creatures - they'll die anyway. And yes, keep our shores clean, and we'll enjoy sights like these instead of rubbish. . . Part 2/3: Do you know that Singapore disposed of nearly three million tonnes of waste in 2019, of which about 30 per cent was plastic waste, and food 20%? It's criminal, how much food we waste every day. Recycling rates are down too. And this is what we'll see more and more of - our island surrounded by trash generated by every one of us. . . . This was the scene that greeted East Coast Park residents twice a day again, in July and August. Piles of debris consisting of plastic waste and all manner of household rubbish. Plastic bottles, styroform containers, footwear (so many people lost their shoes!), household items including refrigerators. They lined the beach front as far as the eye could see. They created not just an eyesore but a stink, as well as post a danger. The poor cleaners were out the whole day starting at dawn, only to repeat it again next tide. I felt sorry for them. Even a few platoons would not be enough for the clean up. The ocean has turned into a giant rubbish dump, so much so that one gigantic pile has been termed the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch", another, the "North Atlantic Garbage Patch". Well, we have our garbage patch this part of the world too. Unless we play our part in living a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle, the future generation will be living surrounded by garbage, with water, air and soil poisoned by the by-products too.
