The last Kufiyeh manufactory in the Palestinians Territories.

  Traditionally worn by Palestinian farmers the Kufiyeh became a symbol of Palestinian nationalism during the 30s.

  Its notoriety increased during the 60s with the Palestinian resistance movement and Arafat’s vesture as a symbol of identity and national struggle.

  Hirbawi Textile http://www.kufiyahirbawi.com/ is a small manufactory based in Hebron Hill (Al-Khalil) run by the Hirbawi family.

The Palestine Monitor has met Abdil Azim, the actual manager, who told us how the business has changed from the 1961 until now.

  After three decades of flourishing business at the end of the first intifada in 1993 unfortunately the factory sales started to be negatively affected by the globalization.

  Today this local producer struggles to survive due trade competitors like China and Arab neighbors countries, which started to produce Kaffieyeh in large quantities.

  Promote the local production in Palestine is also a way to resist the Israeli occupation Abdil Azim said.

  The Hirbawi family could last their firm till 2012 by selling the traditional Arab fabric with strong political patterns online to Europe and US.
