Chapter 18

"You see ima be late fucking with your ass." Kehlani cursed as she moved around the room pulling on her clothes and I laughed to myself.

"Me? You the one that dragged me to the bed." I pointed out what was very much true, and she waved her hand.

"Cause you started with me in the shower." She pointed to the room and I grinned.

"Only cause you bent over in front of me—that's like putting a five-course meal in front of me and telling me not to eat it." She laughed at my analogy and I pulled on my shirt. "So you best believe ima eat it."

She laughed loudly at that, but was still shaking her head, and I pulled my pants on, buttoning them up. "You better hope I still got time to go see your mama. If I don't I'm blaming you."

She was leaving today for her next tour stop, while I was going back to LA, I had spent the night with them at the hotel. And I loved it, but I loved this morning even more, I mean sex in the morning—in the shower.. and we had just finished.. well you get the gist.

I don't know if it was the length of time we danced around the feelings we had for each other, or what, but we couldn't keep our hands to ourselves. And I didn't want to.

"You better not." I threatened playfully and she smirked.

"And now you threatening me? Now watch me tell her."

"Ima regret you meeting her." She snickered and I pulled on my shoes and she did the same. I changed the sheets on the bed while she made sure she had all of her stuff, when I finished with the sheets I watched as she finished packing her suitcase. "You got everything?" I asked knowing she didn't.

She looked over her shoulder before nodding. "Yes?"

"Your charger is still plugged in," I said pointing to the other side of the bed, and she pursed her lips and went over to grab it.

"You see this why I keep you around. Can't go losing this now." She shook the charger in her hand and my eyes rolled.

"Haha, you're so funny," I responded dryly, and she smiled and walked over to me and kissed me softly and I smiled against her lips.

"Ain't I?" My eyes rolled again, and she did another quick check, before we walked out of the room.

"Where's everyone else?" I asked since her friends weren't here, I know they came back here with her from the club last night.

I didn't go to the afterparty with them, but when they got back I talked with her friends.

"They went somewhere for breakfast, I'll meet with them later." She told me and I nodded, while taking the suitcase from her hand, pulling it along with me as we walked out of the room.

There was a car waiting for us and I put the suitcase in the trunk, I told the driver the address once I was settled in the car, and I had my hand rested on Kehlani's thigh, my thumb rubbing her skin as I looked through my phone.

"Will you at least tell me how many songs are on the album if you won't let me listen to it?" She suddenly asked and I side-eyed her.

"You still on this?"

"Yes." I blew a raspberry and squeezed her thigh.

"There's 17 songs on the album," I told her and she nodded.

"Now how many are about me?" She asked teasingly and I leaned closer to her.

"One." Her jaw dropped. "Oh no, no, it's two my fault."

"Damn." She mumbled and I snorted and leaned back. "You see and here I was thinking I was special and all, ya know.."

"Ehh.." She nudged me and I laughed under my breath. She leaned against me and I wrapped my arm around her shoulders still scrolling through my phone but now I was looking through my song files.

I had so many unreleased songs it was crazy.

I also knew that if my fans knew how much songs I had just chilling in the vault they'd declare war.

I was scrolling until I saw a file named: 7:00_demo_KB. I clicked it turning the volume down and I put it to my ear so I could hear it.

"Okay, word then

He ain't workin', I pull up urgently and in person (Huh)

A wave of realization hit me and I nodded to myself as I stopped it from playing, I remember that now. Damn, it felt weird hearing that all these months later.

When I looked down at Kehlani she was already looking at me, and wordlessly I just turned my phone back on so I could replay the file and she grinned as I passed my phone over.

"You know me so well." I smiled mockingly and she just listened to the song.

"This is a sample of Usher?"

"Mhm. Of Nice and Slow."

She hummed and the song continued, and when it got to: 'You know the name B-R, why not give me a S-O-N?' She paused it, then went back and I heard the same line twice.

I expected her to say something but she didn't say anything until it was over. "Is this old?"

"Yeah. Wrote it in October/early November last year."

"First of all, you are a menace like wow. You said 'Sleepin' alone and your man can't hold ya

But baby, I care, tell your man, "Game over"' like it was some damn video game!"

"Was," I mumbled, and she tutted.

"Okay, something I do wanna know is what is that son line? 'Girl, I'm here for you, ain't no question

I'm revisin', it's time that I teach him a lesson

"It's like a double entendre." I shrugged lightly. "But it's also like a power play, cause I'm like, ima teach him a lesson by taking you from him. Then let's go have a baby a son or whatever." I clicked my tongue and sighed heavily.

Funnily enough this song was about Star, but also I was talking about the man who is now her baby daddy so.. yeah. Fun.

"See? Full-blown menace." I smiled softly and shook my head. "You really do want kids though huh?"

I made a face. "Isn't it a little soon to be talking bout kids?" Their eyes rolled and she lightly smacked my arm that was still around her shoulder. "But yeah, you know it's something I want someday."

"Okay." She whispered, and she kissed my arm, and I wished for a second I could see her face but she turned away from me.

I never really had conversations about wanting kids with any of my partners before them and after Dee, I just knew I wanted kids but I never talked about it with any of them because while we were committed it was still like a surface-level relationship.

They didn't really know me.

But Kehlani? She was learning who Kairi was.. not just Kai Brooks.

When we got to my mom's place Kehlani went inside to say hi, and I got her suitcase out of the trunk and put it into the car that was gonna take them to her friends.

I unfortunately didn't have the time to stay like she could, I had to get to the airport, the guys loaded up the car while Simone and I said goodbye to my aunt and I said goodbye to Isaiah.

When I hugged my mom she rocked with me in her arms and I smiled to myself. "I love you, ma."

"I love you too, Kairi. You keep yourself safe out there, alright?"

"Yeah, I will," I responded, and she nodded firmly, and I turned to Kehlani who was standing a little further from everyone else, I walked over to her.

"I'm gonna miss you." She whispered as her arms went around my neck, and I put my hands on her waist, sucking my teeth.

"Mane don't tell me we finna be like those couples." I joked and her eyes rolled. "But I'll miss you too," I admitted.

I honestly wanted to say fuck it and just go city to city with her but I had my own obligations and I couldn't drop it like that.

"Alright lover boy, we gotta go." I groaned and dropped my head into Kehlani's neck after hearing Devon's voice. She laughed and rubbed my back.

"Aye you just reminded me, I'm bouta go listen to Certified Lover Boy." I lifted my head and looked at Malik confused but he shrugged looking at Devon who was giving him the same look I was. "It's a bop, ion care what you say."

I shook my head but didn't disagree, and I looked at Kehlani again, and she were looking at me with a soft look. "I'll call you when I land?"

"You better." She whispered and I smiled and hugged them, breathing in her scent, man I was turning into a damn sap. I didn't want to pull away from the warmth of her arms but I knew Malik and Devon would probably drag me out if I didn't hurry up.

I quickly placed a kiss on her lips as I pulled away, and I smirked seeing the look on her face as I pulled away, and I said my goodbyes to everyone again before I finally stepped out of her hold.

Going so I could get in the car. It was a little crazy to me that I had only just introduced Kehlani to my mom and them, now my mom loved her, which I loved.

I loved that they were building a relationship. And hopefully their relationship continued to grow just like Kehlani's and I was growing.
