Keith Herzik used a fuzzed-out guitar, some kind of home-made amplified harmonica system, and a ceaseless stream of hoarse vocals (equal parts chuckling, muttering, and casual statements) to compliment his slideshow of loose animation and collage in a confounding display of happy-go-lucky abstraction at Brain Frame 15 on November 16th, 2013.

OHNO!DOOM GALLERY PRESENTS ‘THE COMPANY OF OTHERS’ COLLABORATIVE SHOW JUNE 9, 2012 OhNo!Doom Gallery gathers five local and visiting artists for The Company Of Others, a collaborative show featuring exciting interpretations of the figure study. Styles range from abstract to what could be described as psychedelic pop, but as OhNo!Doom Gallery co-owner Joey Potts says, “No matter how differently they work, they each give a nod to classical visions of art while still being very contemporary.” The Company of Others, “revolves around artists whose primary focus in their work is the figure” Potts says, who feels this body of work can tell you a great deal about the creators--or add a bit of mystery, challenging preconceived notions. “The way two different artists approach a figure tells a lot about the artist him/herself as a person.” Potts adds, “It’s like being in the city and world in which we live, you never exactly know who or what lies behind closed doors...you walk by them every day never getting to see inside, wondering what’s in there. Then one day, you catch a glimpse through an open curtain or door.” What will you find though those open doorways? Potts says a lot depends on what happens when the imagination of the artist and that of the viewer collide head-on in the gallery. The Company Of Others features artwork in bold colors and aggressive styles, but also offers pieces in muted colors and soft pastels--it’s a diverse collection which demands attention. The Company Of Others opens at OhNo!Doom Gallery Saturday, June 9th at 6PM. The show runs until Thursday, July 5th.
