Wake up in her cozy little dream corner, which she found in a forest, quick bath in a river, forage for food, meditate, hunt with other animals while in wild shape, more meditation and return to her little dream corner to sleep.

Any tips for designing gijinkas? Seriously your designs are the best. Your redraws had me blown away

Thankyou so much!!! QuQ  I’m happy you enjoy my gijinkas,even if I don’t draw them as often anymore. Always fun to go backto my roots tho.

Man gijinka design is tricky cuz there’s so many different waysyou can approach the design process. You can make them completelyhuman, give them pokemon characteristics (like tails, ears or wings)or make them well ... humanoid pokemon i guess???

What flavor you want to go for is entirely up to you but I’mjust gonna tell you what my usual design process is like.I prefergijinkas that look human and the only thing that really mirrors theoriginal design are the clothes. So the questions I have to ask are

1. What kinda character is is supposed to be? I need a basicunderstanding of what kind of personality they’re supposed to have.

How does the character present themselves, in their posture, theirexpression, their overall personality. These are important things toconsider. I kinda felt like I was sorta lacking in this departmentfor a while but I do feel like I’ve gotten better at this again.

2. What theme should the outfit have? Should they be awallflower or sexy, retro or futuristic, business or casual, based onour current fashion or completely otherworldly?

Should be self explenatory. Giving them a normal ass t-shirt andjeans is fine but WHAT IF you do something a little more extra. Cuzextra is fun.

3. How can I incorpate the original design into my chosentheme?

Once you’ve got that basic theme down, it’s time to make thegijinka look like the actual pokemon. In this category you can go hogwild on some thing and very calculated on other thing. There is noright or wrong here either. 

You wanna give your Honchkrow that hat cuz it’s on the pokemon?Give them that hatYou wanna make that hat into a wild hairdoinstead? Fuck yea fam, go right ahead.

Shuffle around the design aspects. They don’t have to be in theplaces the pokemon has them. If I would have put Guzzlord’s grabbytentacles into the mouth of the dress, that woudl ahve been way toobusy. But hey! How about a shoulder scarf? Fuck yes. And you canstill see what aspects of the design it should represent.
