the vampire diaries | katherine/elena; mature; 85 words Elena's no longer afraid of the big bad vampire.
It was a beautiful afternoon for a picnic, and that’s exactly what the Gilbert-Pierce couple had on their agenda. Elena had woken up with this idea in mind, and when she saw the perfect weather from outside her window, she quickly texted her girlfriend, letting her know about their newest date. Katherine was out of town, she had to go get some things done back in Bulgaria, but told Elena that she would be in Mystic Falls as fast as she could for their meeting.
The Gilbert girl wasted the majority of her morning making peanut butter sandwiches, waffles and red velvet cupcakes, Katherine’s favourites. I think she’s gonna like it, she thought. She really enjoyed making the elder vampire smile. When all the food was ready, she started packing everything in a basket, not forgetting to grab the red and white checkered tablecloth from the bottom cabinet and some blood bags from the fridge. Her Kath would be thirsty when she got there.
It was almost luch time when Elena got out of the house. The sun was bright up her head, it’s warmth filling the younger vampire’s body with some kind of happiness. Or maybe it was just the thought about having Katherine back in her arms after two whole weeks. She missed her girlfriend so bad.
In a slow pace, she finally got to the spot in the woods she had arranged with Katherine. She placed the basket on the ground near her and took the tablecloth out, stretching it right below a huge tree. With a smile, she tapped her hands as if cleaning them, and sat down on the piece of cloth, bringing the basket with her. She placed it by her side and opened it, taking a waffle out of it. It’s smell was driving her crazy and she just couldn’t wait Katherine anymore for a bite, even though she knew how her girlfriend could be a drama queen when she started to eat without her. I’m gonna finish it before she gets here, she thought. Shrugging, she took a mouthful bite of the waffle and hummed in pleasure while leaning agaisnt the trunk tree, her eyes closed. She did not want to brag, but those waffles were amazing! She cuckled at her own behaviour and shook her head, taking in a deep breath when she swallowed. It was just so incridible being capable of smelling so many different scents at the same time and still know each one of them. She could sense the smell of the high oaks, the sunflowers, the grass, the mixed scents that came with the wind, the food inside her basket, the smell of her own hair and...
A huge smile spread across her features.
She could smell her.
She quickly opened her eyes just to be met with identical ones staring at her. If it was possible, the smile on her lips grew wider as she gazed at the mesmerizing woman standing in front of her. Katherine was not wearing anything fancy, but the leather jacket combined with that pair of black Louboutin... Ugh, she knew the effect it had on her. And that was exactly the reason why there was a shameless smirk on the older woman’s lips since the begining.
Elena half-closed her eyes towards her and again shook her head, still smiling. Slowly, Katherine took the last few steps parting them and sat down gracefully in front of Elena, her body leaning in until their lips were just inches apart, their eyes never breaking it’s connection.
“Did you miss me?” She whispered, her hot and mint scented breath leaving her lips and meeting Elena’s. The younger vampire couldn’t take it anymore. She bit hard on her bottom lip and took one last breath before reaching for the back of Katherine’s neck with her free hand and pulling her in, slamming their lips together in a heated kiss. Their teeth bit on each other’s lips and their tongues entwined in a vicious dance, all the longing they felt being poured on that action. After some good minutes, they eventually broke apart and Katherine went back for her seat, satisfied smiles gracing their swollen lips.
“Yeah, I guess you did miss me.”
Katherine teased, earning a playful slap on her arm. She giggled and reached for Elena’s hand to grab it, but was met with a piece of a bitten waffle. Her perfect eyebrows arched and in less than a second her half-closed judging eyes were staring at her, being followed by The Pout™. Elena widened her eyes and shrunk her mouth in a thin line, trying to restrain a laugh.
“You started eating without me...”
The older vampire’s voice sounded so betrayed combined with her twisted features that she almost wasn’t capable of holding it back anymore, so she closed her eyes and bowed her head, trying to keep her voice steady.
“Oops.”
She failed.
Katherine watched her girlfriend now with amused and loving eyes. She wasn’t serious about the food thing. She happened to joke about that once and as Elena laughed and called her “her big baby”, she kept doing it because she knew this would always be her reaction. And it made her happy to no limits seeing Elena happy. Everytime she smiled, giggled, chuckled, laughed, it was a bliss to her heart. She arched an eyebrow when the younger girl looked back at her and lightly smiled, going back to her drama facade.
“Lucky you I’m a very understanding girlfriend that knows about your endless hungry, Cupcake.” She said with a tone that sounded like she was the best person in the world just for ‘forgiving’ that terrible crime and smiled with the corner of her lips, satisfied with her own goodness.
Again, Elena was not capable of restraining herself and laughed, but little did Katherine know that she also knew that that whole drama was faked only to gain a smile from her lips, and that’s why she found it really convinient to repeat her girlfriend’s words, not only to go with the joke but affirming something she had always known when it was about having Katherine.
“Lucky me.”

That’s what they all were. Idiots. Dead idiots.
It bubbles out of her, the laughter. It starts as a sound that’s half a sob. That draws Katherine’s attention to her, brows furrowed in something that would be concern if the expression was worn on Elena’s face. Instead, it just looks judgemental. Suits Katherine. She’s been judging her since before Elena’s realised she was under the microscope.
But it oozes out of her like blood from a deep tear and it bursts from her, the laughter that’s neither mirthful nor mirthless. Elena laughs loudly, hand pressed to her chest, and moves in her seat as she feels her throat begin to hurt and her chest empty.
Everyone’s gone. And here she is, left with only a mirror of her true self.

the vampire diaries | katherine/elena | part twelve teen, 406. Katherine helps Elena clean up her cut.
When Elena had originally cut her wrist open, Katherine had no reason not to believe it had all been by accident. Those big doe eyes and the way her heart beat to a quick and anxious staccato had easily led Katherine to believe it was all by accident.
Then, she came to know better.

Katherine was afraid. Klaus was still after her and a shiver ran through her spine every now and then when she thought about all the horrible things he could - and would - do to her if he found her. She had been running from him for centuries now but that feeling never went away. But that wasn’t what she feared the most. The thought of being killed by him was nothing compared to imagining her dying by his hands. She just couldn’t think about her Elena dying, and the mere thought of it made tears fill her brown orbs. She would do the impossible to protect her beautiful doppleganger, the one she so fastly learned to love.
They were on the run for a couple of weeks now and, thanks to the gods, there were no sight of the hybrid on their path. They would switch cities every two days, never staying more than that in any place. Now, they were settled on a small city in South Italy, more precisally in a not so fancy hotel room. The room was silent as Katherine looked for something to eat in the fridge. She picked up a bottle of water and was making her way to approach the other brunette when she heard Elena’s sobs from the porch.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Kath ran to the brunette’s side, her hand running up and down Elena’s arm. She furrowed her eyebrows when no answer came from the girl. “Babe, hey… look at me” she whispered this time and Elena finally gave in, turning her head to her. “Why are you crying?”
Katherine simply hated seeing Elena cry. It pained her to no limits, felt like having a hundred stakes going through her heart at once. She raised her hand and whipped away the girl’s tears, rubbing the rosy cheek when she was finished.
“I-I’m just- I’m so scared, Kath” Elena whisperd back, her eyes watering again. She looked so fragile in that moment, so vunerable, that the only thing Katherine wanted to do was hold her ‘till the end of the times. “I can’t stop thinking about the horrible things he will do to us when he finds us and…”
“Shhhh” the brunette placed her thumb over the the baby vampire’s lips and steped closer, glueing their foreheads together, her eyes closed. “He won’t find us, Elena. We are doing fine ‘till now. He doesn’t have any trace that could led him to us.” Again, she furrowed her eyebrows. They were fine, but until when? Yes, she’s been running from him for quite a long time and he never found her, but… What if he does this time? What if she had made a single mistake that could give him a hint about their wherebeings? What if, what if, what if… She was just so tired of all of this. All she wanted was a normal life with that one girl standing by her side. Was that ask too much? She felt her eyes water. Yes, for Katherine Pierce, it was too much, She sighed. “But, if he does, I- I would never let him do anything to hurt you. Never. He won’t touch you, Elena. It’s a promise.”
Elena kept staring at the older woman. Her soft features that looked so much like hers were now hard, as if the vampire was in pain. She turned her body to face her doppleganger, Katherine’s hand never leaving her lips. She is right, Elena tought to herself. They would keep running and protecting each other and… Her eyes widened when she finally got what those words meant. Katherine was planning on- oh, god.
“No.” Elena said firmly, lowering Katherine’s hand from her mouth to her jawline. “No, no, no and no, Katherine!” The elder vampire’s lips curled in a sad smile and her eyes opened to be met by others identical ones filled with worry but yet care and loads and loads of love. “I won’t let you do this. Do you hear me?” Elena placed her hands on the both sides of the woman’s face, forcing her to stare back at her. “I won’t let you trade yourself over me.”
“Elena, if he comes after us, he’ll-”
“I don’t care!” The younger girl yelled, her grip becoming stronger by the second. Her heart was beating frantically inside her chest and she knew the vampire could hear it, but she didn’t care at all. “If he comes, we’ll find a way to beat him. Together.” She bit her lip and closed her eyes for a moment, re-opening them after taking a long and shaky breath. “It’s you and me, remember? You for me and me for you. Forever.”
“I love you, Elena.” Katherine whispered, tapping her thumb over the baby vamp’s chin. “Forever.”
