So, yeah. It’s my first fic and I don’t know yet if I like it. Leave a comment?
“Can I get two more glasses of wine, please?” Vic asks a waitress walking by. It’s his and Kellin’s ten year anniversary, so Vic surprised Kellin by booking a table at Kellin’s favorite restaurant. It was the same restaurant where they had their first date. Kellin is still a little blushy after all these years still when Vic does cute things like this for him.
“You really didn’t need to do this for me. I would have been fine with just hanging on the couch and watching some stupid movie,” Kellin murmured.
“No way! You never let me take you out. You deserve it, after you put up with me for all these years,” Vic exclaims. They never really care if they are in public or not. When they are together, they only have eye for each other.
“You always try to take me out. You won’t even give me the chance to do something nice back,” Kellin countered.
“That’s not true. Remember when you took me to the aquarium for my birthday?” Vic asks and he laughs when Kellin huffs.
~
“Good morning sleepyhead. Get out of bed,” I said, trying to shake Vic awake.
“No. Too early. Five more minutes?” Vic tried to say.
“Come on, it’s your birthday, you should be excited,” I tried again.
“Nooooooo,” he groaned. “Lay with me?”
“Vic.”
“Pretty please?”
“Fine, five minutes.” I climbed into our bed into his arms. He turned me so I laid with my back to him and snuggled me closer. I could feel his hot breath to my neck. I giggled. “Vic, you’re tickling me.”
“Shush, it’s my birthday, I get to say what we do. So you just be a good little husband and be cuddled.”
“You know I’m a little bit taller right?”
Vic put his hand over my mouth and said, “What did I tell you? Shush.”
And so we laid there for over half an hour before I told him to get dressed, so I could make him breakfast.
In the car Vic couldn’t stop asking where we were going. I didn’t tell him of course, that would ruin the surprise. Although he claimed he doesn’t like surprises, I know he secretly loved them, at least when they came from me. And if he didn’t, then he’ll just have to deal with them, cause I’m not telling him. On top of that, I had him wear a blindfold so he couldn’t see which direction we were going.
When we arrived I didn’t tell him he could take his blindfold off, I just started tickling him. He burst into a flood of giggles before he blindly tried to tickle me back. He failed miserably of course, he was still blindfolded. I stopped tickling him and said, “We’re here, you can take your blindfold of.”
“Yeah, I kind of figured,” he muttered before taking it off. When he saw that we were at the aquarium he started bouncing in his seat excitedly.
“Omg thank you so much. You know me so well. I love you. I love you. I love you. Let’s go see all the nemo’s and the seaturtles and the sharks and the tiny little crabs and I wanna see everything!” he shouted.
“I know, I know. Now let’s go inside, you little kid.” I giggled.
“Hey, I’m older, you know.”
“Hey,” I mocked him. “I’m taller you know.”
Vic just rolled his eyes.
~
“Yeah okay, so you let me take you out once. You didn’t even let me take you out. I had to drag you out of bed,” Kellin says.
“I just like for it to be the other way around, I like to take you out. To see that beautiful smile and those sparkling eyes when you find out I have something planned. And don’t lie to me, you like to be surprised, to be taken care of.”
“No I don’t.”
“Yes you do.”
“Fine, I like it.”
Vic smiles triumphantly.
Just when the waitress came with two glasses of wine, Vic says, “Remember that time where we had this huge fight and you ran off?”
“Don’t remind me, I hate that fight. It was awful,” Kellin says with sadness in his voice.
“I don’t mean that fight, I mean what came after.”
~
Kellin just ran off. He had never done that, but I guess I really hurt him. Usually I’m the one who runs off and gets drunk. I know better than going after him. I mean, I don’t like it when he does it, but I need him to get me home when I’m drunk out of my mind.
I need to think about Kellin right now, he won’t get drunk, would he? Oh god, do I have to pick him up? What if he does something stupid? He said wants to be alone for some time. And that he would come back when he feels like it.
He’d be back in a hour or two right? It was already 11 pm after all. I knew he could take care of himself but I was still worried sick.
Around four hours later he finally came home.
“Kellin, are you okay? Where were you? I was worri-”
“Shut up. I’ve been thinking. We live together. If you don’t want the responsibility than I should just shut my mouth. If you want to talk more, can we please do that in the morning? I’m tired.”
“Okay,” I said, defeated.
“I’ll take the couch.”
How can I make this up to him? I know I was wrong. I should’ve let him have his way. I end up only getting two hours of sleep.
At 9 am I walked to our bedroom with a plate of pancakes and peeked in. I walked over and sat on the side of the bed. His hair sticked out in all directions. God, he is adorable when he’s asleep.
“Kell, please wake up. I made you breakfast.”
Kellin groaned and rolled over.
I sighed and put the plate on the bedside table.
“Please, I want to talk.”
“Talk,” he said simply, but in his adorable morning voice. God, I love this man.
“I’ve been thinking too. First, I’m sorry. I’m an asshole. Secondly, you’re right. You’re alone all day and if you wanna take care of it, we can take a pet.”
Kellin rolled over and looked at me.
“We can take a pet?” he asked me.
“Yes, if you would just eat your breakfast and get dressed, we can go.”
Later in the car Kellin was silent. So I asked him, “Do you still want this?”
“Yeah, of course. I was just wondering if you’re doing this because you want us to have a pet, or if you’re doing this because I got mad and walked away last night,” Kellin whispered. “I don’t want you to do this just because I ran.”
“You had every right to be mad at me, I was being unreasonable. And I feel really bad that you’re alone when I’m at work. I don’t want you to be lonely. If you want this then I’m fine with it. But just as I said, it’s your responsibility, you have to take care of it. Oh, and it will have to leave our furniture in one piece. I don’t want our apartment look like a dump. Are we good?”
Kellin smiled when I told him that I wasn’t just doing this because he got mad.
“Yes, we’re good, idiot. I will try to make it leave all of our stuff alone.”
“Try?”
When we got to the shelter I went to the lady at the counter to ask if we could adopt a pet when I realized that I didn’t even know what sort of pet Kellin wanted, but of course, I already had said hello.
“Hello,” she said back.
“We want to adopt a pet.” I said awkwardly.
‘Okay, what kind of animal did you have in mind?” she kindly asked.
I looked at Kellin. “What do you want?”
“I want a cat,” he said confidently. “But not a kitten, do you have cats that have been waiting a long time for an owner? One that no one seems to want?”
Typical Kellin. Always having a week spot for the weaklings.
“Sure,” the lady said. ‘Come with me, just through this door.’
We ended up not walking through “just this door”, but six doors and around even more corners.
“Here we are,” she said happily, probably because Kellin wanted a cat who had trouble finding an owner.
We stood in front of a large cage. She pointed to some different cats telling which ones had been here for a long time. I didn’t really paid attention, I didn’t care, I just want him to be happy. I almost hadn’t noticed that the lady had opened the door and had let Kellin in.
“You coming?” Kellin asked.
I jumped and walked in.
“So, do you know which one yet?”
“I don’t know Vic. There are so many of them,” Kellin whined.
“How many?” I asked the lady.
“Five, all castrated and chipped.”
“You want all five, don’t you Kellin?”
“Hell yeah, can we? Can we?” he had excitement filling his eyes.
I sighed.”Yeah… you take care of them though.”
Kellin jumped up and hugged me tight.
“I love you Vic.”
“I know.”
~
“I love that you did that for me. Funny how we didn’t end up with just those five cats,” Kellin jokes.
“No, of course not. Once I get you some pets, you want more.”
“Don’t act like you don’t love all of our pets.”
When the waitress arrives with the desserts, they both jump. Chocolate cake for Kellin and a banana split for Vic.
“I do, but I will never admit that out loud,” Vic shrugs.
“You know you just did?” Kellin laughs.
“No one will ever believe I said that. It’ll be our little secret.”
“You love all of them. Everyone knows, you act like you don’t, but you definitely do,” Kellin teases.
“You eat your dessert you ass.”
-
When they stand in front of their door later Kellin asks, “Will you walk to dogs with me?”
“Do I have a choice?”
“No.”
Vic opened the door and immediately three dogs jumped him and Kellin, leaving paw prints all over both their cloths.
“Hey! Get off of me! Right now. Stupid dogs. No Kellin, I don’t love them right now, they almost ripped my shirt,” Vic half-heartedly says. “Wait, three dogs? Where are Neelix and Kes? Please tell me they aren’t up to trouble again?”
Kellin walks towards the kitchen. “Do you wanna know?”
“Yes.”
“Neelix has his head stuck in the trashcan and Kes is sitting in the freezer with her fat butt with cheese all over her mouth.”
“Goddamnit.”
“Not only that, the cats had a little fun with your socks, Joey has one half-ripped on his paw.”
“I said it before, and I’ll say it again, you’re responsible for them, but I guess I’ll be nice this time and help you clean up. You’re lucky I love you.”
