#PrivateJets are a reminder of how jet travel used to be for everyone ⚜️ I grew up in Mayfair & embassy enclaves abroad ⚜️ I vividly remember women wouldn’t dream of leaving the house without hats & gloves & I remember my granny passing down a litany of handy uses for hatpins for defending myself against #naughtymen which I passed on to #quentincrisp who’d had lots of experience with #naughtymen ⚜️ Quentin Crisp ALWAYS wore a hat ⚜️ All restaurants & planes thoughtfully provided little handbag stools for women to seat their #kellybags & no one would dream of putting a handbag on the ground - fortunately @thewolseley still delivers the grace & traditional comforts that #mayfair has been famous for since 1630 when dashing #Footmen ferried women & men (gallants) around the Salons & dining rooms of Mayfair which thanks to our liberal & scientific King Charles I & his Eccentric Queen Henrietta-Marie whom OscarWilde described as “the finest & most loyal & brave woman of history” ... During Wyld’s years in Reading Gaol he wrote poetry to her, recognising in the Medici Queen the qualities he needed to survive the brutality & unjustness of his sentence. Queen Henrietta-Marie Went to great lengths to wear her full queenly regalia during the Civil War even on the battlefield. She sailed back & forth on rough seas to Europe to bring back Weapons from her nephew The Sun King in Versailles for her husband & his Cavaliers - most of King CharlesI were #poets #artists #musicians actors & #artisans - As #puritan forces fired cannons at her ship, she stood at the helm in all her finery as canon balls wizzed passed her & the boat was tossed about storms. She rallied the men on board to keep rowing “Fear not for God Will not allow them to hit a ship with the Queen at the helm.” Her stoicism rallied the men & even when giving birth to her daughter Princess Henrietta on The battlefield itself in 1644 - As I have learned in my own battle with this brain tumour our finery can serve as our armour as we face the slings & arrows of life’s misfortune & other peoples judgement of us!
