The parents in their belly preferred roost. I think what they are doing is separating the two offspring that can fly, but not yet hunt for themselves ( I think they have begun scavenging) from the youngest that is somewhere on the ground near the nest-hill. It seems they have been letting them further up the river so that they can deliver food to the youngest without being seen so that the older two won't steal its food. All was going well until a jet flew over. I already had my back turned and was walking away when I heard a bunch of branches cracking as they took off. The jet wasn't even at low altitude. So 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 why the kingfisher left. The older eaglet must have seen it eating something, and is now fervently looking for scraps. I started in the vehicle, and, having found none, it went back to its sign roost. No eagles that I could see on the hill Saturday, so I drove to the end of Kenai Avenue behind the beach dunes. There I found the mother on the banks of the rivulet that drains the two ravines behind the dunes and form their hill. When I checked a little later from above she had moved to the green lateral marker (going downstream you are too keep greens on your right - this one is presumably to prevent boats from mistakenly traveling up the rivulet at high tide). I didn't even touch it! That is because that would be illegal due to the 1940 Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. It was difficult to get this many shots, as the wind on the beach kept blowing it around. In fact, that's why there are so few shots, I got tied of chasing it around, especially because it was blowing in a direction that put the sun at my back, and it in my shadow, so each time I had to get ahead of or beside it.
