The morning after: forlorn orphaned moose calf. Ten hours ago this almost ten-month old moose calf lost its mother. It will probably hang out in the area for a few days, as long as her scent lingers on the roadside. Desperate and skittishly looking for her, the orphaned calf will become a traffic hazard itself. Usually, it seems to me, in these situations, it is the calves that are hit, as people let up on the brakes once the cow has passed safely, only to collide with the calf as it's chasing after its mother.
