Garrett's just gotten done eating, and he's knelt beside a park bench, what looks like a blueprint spread out in front of him. It's an odd place to do it, but at least the wind isn't strong today, and he picks up his water, uncapping it and taking a swig as he furrows his brow. "Something's missin'... Do you think something's missin'?" Not everyone's into architecture, Garrett.
"I’m pregnant with your baby."
Henley has wondered what it’s like, really, to be completely devoid of thoughts.
It sets him off. But not the usual way; the throat-scraping, skin-reddening, heart-pulsing kind. This is different. He can’t do anything. Nothing. He can’t even breathe. Like he’s gone into shock. All he can do is stare.
He can feel his body heating up, though, and his stomach dropping down to the floor. He wouldn’t be surprised if his whole cardiovascular system escaped his chest in that moment, with the state he was in.
After a moment, something clicks, the dangerous part of him he prefers to reject. So he turns. And stocks into his room. And locks the door. And turns off the light. Everything feels so mechanical, he wonders how he hasn’t done this before.
If there’s anything past those few seconds, he’s yet to see it behind the fog underneath his eyelids.
