Analysis about Fyodor's ability Crime & Punishment? Any interesting though?

Guys, I just said that Fyodor and Hunting Dogs have appeared too short for me to be able to make a good analysis for it :’D . But I will try, although this will be less of analysis and more of speculations.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the current main villain and also Dazai’s rival in ‘my keikaku is better than your keikaku’ as Lea, bless her genius mind, has said. His Ability, Crime and Punishment, is one of the most mysterious Ability given that he only uses it two times. TWO. FREAKING. TIMES. It’s amazing how much damage he inflicts on Yokohama while only using his Ability two times. And those two times are for unimportant things.

Fyodor’s Ability, as shown in the images below, enabled him to kill with just a touch (are you Light Yagami from Death Note? But if Light needs his book you just touches them?). The touch disregard layers of clothing, as seen that the soldier got killed despite wearing protective clothing. It’s unclear whether this also affect people shielded by Ability like Akutagawa’s space tear.

So far he only kills people that he touches, but it’s unclear whether he still hide other ways he can kill people. After all, he said it himself.

So, it won’t surprise me at all if he suddenly show another Ability and smirks haughtily and says ‘no, when did I ever say that my Ability is to kill people. It’s you who thinks so’.

But if his Ability truly enables him to kill someone with just a mere touch, disregarding protective clothing, then he is one of the most dangerous Ability user. It’s unknown what is the needed factor for him to be able to kill someone so easily, but @blackandwhitemusician has discussed this question before. There is speculations that Fyodor’s Ability kill people who has ‘sins’ and his Ability ‘punish’ them with death. Since ‘sins’ are a very vague concept and Fyodor himself seems to have a very different moral compass than normal people, it seems that the guilt of the target of his Ability is the one who killed them. The way of dead of the target is according to the ‘sins’ the target felt, since they pointed out that in the first picture of Fyodor’s victim, his collar (which is the proof of his slavery) came off.

I kinda want to argue that the boy himself said that the collar won’t come off and it’s not that releasing the collar will kill him. Maybe it’s more because Ace and him died that the collar got loose, but again, with Fyodor I’m not 100% sure.

That theory can only be proven if Fyodor touches someone like Atsushi who has many guilt in his life (despite being innocent and none of the bad things in his life happening is from his fault). Or Dazai, who also has distorted morals. But Dazai is immune to Fyodor’s Ability. Maybe Mori?

Also, there is the question why in Dead Apple only Fyodor’s Ability is so friendly with him while other’s Ability (again, except Dazai) all went for their blood. And then there is this famous scene.

Fyodor said that he is crime, while his Ability is the punishment. And that crime and punishment are good friends. If punishment won’t punish crime, then what does his Ability punish in other people? Their ‘sins’? He also said this.

He said that the crime was thinking and breathing, but isn’t thinking and breathing what makes human alive? Then does he punish them for being alive at all? He said that he wants to get rid of Ability user from the world, and while maybe Ability user are not all innocent, why? Even normal people constantly do crime in BSD.

...wait, this is getting out of hand. I’m speculating his Ability, not Fyodor himself. But I think his Ability ties strongly with his mindset... argh, this is why I don’t want to analyze Fyodor too much. I should already know from experience that trying to understand people like Fyodor will only get me headache and more confused.

Let’s move on, shall we? Hmm... if he has to touch people to kill them, then people with Abilities that enables them to fight from range is fantastic. Akutagawa, Kyouka, Chuuya, Kunikida, Hirotsu, etc is perfect for the job. But if his Ability also affect them if he touches their Abilities, then everyone has to put aside their Abilities and use guns or knives instead. Now that I think about it, this method of fighting is the same if one wants to kill Dazai. And also just like Dazai, this boss of the rats also always hide and never show himself on the battlefield unless he is 100% sure he is going to win. I mean, he is playing a freaking cello when the ADA was running around like headless chicken trying to find him.

So yeah, to beat this guy you literally need Dazai. No Dazai, no dead Fyodor. While other Ability user may beat him in a fight, but he is so cunning he can beat Ranpo in mind games. (It makes me wonder why Dazai don’t just... bring Kunikida or Akutagawa with him or at least a gun when he met with Fyodor rather than just let himself being shot by a sniper. If he kills Fyodor at that moment, they will have less trouble now. But of course, what is a normal human being like me can even try to understand the mind games of geniuses like Fyodor and Dazai lol)

Although, unlike Dazai whose Ability is always active, Fyodor seems to be capable to activate it at will. When the boy was drying Fyodor’s hair with a towel, he didn’t die. So maybe someone can touch Fyodor without dying if Fyodor didn’t see the need to kill them. I mean, can you imagine going to town and every people that accidentally bump into you dying?

I think that’s all. If Fyodor somehow show us more of his Ability in the future maybe I can make analysis of it, but for now this speculations is all I can give.

I’d like to see something new, basically. Just…new stuff, please. We’ve retread the old stuff enough now.

More self-assured protag. Story doesn’t solely center around dudes. Mysteries are legitimately difficult to solve if you put the difficulty up. The ability to play as different characters. Having your choices actually mean something in the story. The final word isn’t some stupid fairy tale ending that counteracts what the series/game has established previously. The villain is actually trying to win.

Stuff like that.

I just realised when watched again the first prolog from DRV3. Seems when The Monokumarz introduced themself to the others, Kaede seems pretty shocked and say something liked "You're Monokumarz? Then that means--" before being interruped by one of the Monokumarz. What could this mean?

That’s something a lot of other people have wondered! Thereare so many things about the prologue that really do stand out on anotherreread.

Not only do Kaede and the others seem definitely familiarwith the Monokumerz, but there’s also the matter of Miu’s line about talent atAmami (“Why’re you talkin’ like someone who’s got talent!?”) and Amami’s lineto the Monokumerz where he asks “Why are you doing this ridiculous copycatroutine—” before they interrupt him as well.

While the prologue definitely doesn’t mesh with a lot ofwhat Tsumugi says in the Chapter 6 trial, other aspects of this do support theidea that talent and Danganronpa are pretty huge aspects of society in thendrv3 universe.

We can only really speculate about why Kaede and the otherswould be familiar with the Monokumerz in the prologue, but I think the bestguess is that she recognized either them, or realized they had to have some tieto Monokuma (even though Monokuma doesn’t directly appear in the prologue). I’minclined to think it’s the latter, really.

The name “Monokumerz” is familiar enough that anyone wouldunderstand that they have to be related to Monokuma just by hearing it once. Italso fits with Amami’s question about the “copycat routine,” since if we assumethat the situation was similar to the actual killing game he had participatedin before but not the same, then he would be understandably confused ifentirely different-but-similar looking mascots appeared out of nowhere andstarted acting more like a comedy group than an actual, serious threat.

There’s also, if I recall, the fact that even though Kaedeand the others showed signs of recognition once the Monokumerz namedthemselves, they didn’t react almost at all to the Monokumerz walking andtalking on their own prior to that. While the Exisals certainly scared thembecause they had huge weapons attached, the Monokumerz they simply took instride as being “weird stuffed animals.” In fact, they fail to react so much tothe point where the Monokumerz themselves begin panicking and commenting on how“boring” their non-reactions are, associating it with them being too “plain”and “boring” overall.

Their non-reaction to the Monokumerz is a noticeabledifference from the characters in dr1 and sdr2, many of whom screamed or hadvery exaggerated reactions to the idea of a stuffed animal walking and talkingon its own. So this would imply that stuffed animals doing this sort of thingisn’t unusual at all in the ndrv3 universe. If I recall as well in Chapter 1after the prologue, once Kaede and the others have received their “firstmemories” and their wacky Danganronpa talents and backstories, she reacts extremelydifferently upon seeing the Monokumerz for the “first time” in the classroomwith Saihara. She yelps and acts quite a bit more surprised and scared of themthan she did the first time around, as though she’s never seen anything of thesort before.

These different reactions do fit with the idea of thepre-game ndrv3 characters being familiar with walking, talking mascots becausethey’re familiar with Danganronpa as a series.  Even taking the entire killing game show atface value, it’s sort of implied that there were different mascots used eachtime, always similar to but different from Monokuma himself. This makes sense,considering how lampshaded the idea of bringing in new, one-dimensional mascotsfor cheap entertainment value is in ndrv3, and it also follows through with theidea of Monomi being the first “extra” mascot starting in sdr2 and beingcomedically introduced as “Monokuma’s sister.”

This makes me kind of wonder just how many shoehornedrelatives have been included in all the other seasons of the killing game (justimagining the idea of Monokuma’s second cousin three times removed in Season 42or something is hilarious for a number of reasons). But in any case, if it’s ageneral assumption that “Danganronpa always has some bonus mascot related toMonokuma,” it would also explain why the kids were already familiar with theMonokumerz even if they were completely new to the show and they had never seenthem before.

We can only really theorize until Kodaka provides more concreteinformation though. I’m personally inclined to stick with “Tsumugi hijacked thegame for herself” as a pretty solid theory. It would explain why there were somany similarities with the real killing game show, but also why it wasnoticeably different enough for Amami to comment on it, and why her mascotswere similar to Monokuma but not quite identical.

Anyway, this is just my personal take on it! I hope I couldhelp! Speculating on these matters is a lot of fun, moreso since it gives us alot more reason to keep going back over the prologue and looking for new hintsand clues.

Which cases in DR (1, 2, or V3) do you think that's complex and complicated to solve? (I prefer chapter 5 in DR 2 & V3)

Hmm, that’s a fun question!

There are quite a few cases which are pretty complicated at times, but that’s exactly what makes a lot of them enjoyable! I agree that Chapters 5 of both sdr2 and ndrv3 were probably some of the most fun.

I also really enjoyed Chapter 6 of dr1, since overall it felt the most like a “going back to the beginning” case, and it was really fun to go back and piece things together once all the Mukuro-Junko-swap clues were presented. And, as ridiculous as the murder weapon was, I really loved the VR world case in Chapter 4 of ndrv3, too (even though I’ll go crazy if I hear the words “loop world” one more time).

Sometimes cases which tried to be too complicated just for the sake of prolonging the trial or being more complex actually backfired, though. Chapters 1 and 3 of sdr2 are a good example of this.

The Chapter 1 case of sdr2 is completely skewed from the start, as you have no opportunity to investigate or find either the murder weapon or the secret passageway beneath the floorboards, even after the murder took place, despite going to the rooms both are in and trying to investigate both. It felt very much like the whole case was an overcomplicated response to people complaining about “11037″ in dr1′s Chapter 1.

Meanwhile Chapter 3 of sdr2 was really great in concept, especially considering the Despair Fever motive. But the investigation was a huge mess; you couldn’t directly investigate either Ibuki’s body, and the murder weapon for Saionji is never found or brought up in the trial a single time. All in all, both Celes and Korekiyo had more solid murders, even though both were easier to figure out the “whodunnit” for them.

Chapter 5 for both sdr2 and ndrv3 are a prime example of really complicated cases done right, though. Chapter 5 in every game, really, is the point where the player and the characters alike are challenged to put aside their preconceptions and try solving the case from a completely different perspective.

In particular, it’s really fun to compare sdr2 and ndrv3′s Chapter 5s, though, because of how many parallels and subversions there are.

Both Komaeda and Ouma orchestrated their own deaths, but for completely different reasons. Komaeda’s death was planned entirely in advance and carried out alone; Ouma’s was in response to Maki trying to kill him, which he never accounted for or predicted. Komaeda engineered the whole thing in order to try and kill all of his classmates except for the traitor, and his malice towards them was tangible even after his death; Ouma went to his death willingly in order to keep Maki from being executed and in order to give Momota a proper chance to say his goodbyes to everyone and help him try and strike back at the ringleader.

Both cases are supposed to look somewhat similar on the surface, but deep down, they’re incredibly different, and it’s fascinating. Where Komaeda pulled off a crime with a 1/6 probability where even the culprit themselves didn’t know they were guilty, and they had to rely on his luck in order to guess the right answer, Ouma succeeded in pulling off a plan that allowed for no luck whatsoever, but was the first case in any DR game in which even Monokuma didn’t know any of the answers–not about the cause of death, who the culprit was, or who the victim was.

These are just a few of the things I liked best about those two trials. As far as other cases I really like, I feel like Chapter 4 in general is really solid for all three games. Ndrv3 Chapter 2 was also pretty solid–it had a complicated set-up, and Kirumi was extremely careful during the investigation and most of the trial, which made it really fun, in my opinion.

Anyway, thank you for asking! It’s fun to look at which cases are best from a mystery standpoint sometimes; there are plenty of cases that do leaps and bounds for character development, but it’s also really enjoyable to think about which ones were the most fun to actually go through and solve.
