This particular binge-read, the last of the year, has been a long time coming for me. I read the first couple of volumes back when they came out and loved them, but I didn't stay up to date with the subsequent chapters. Now I finally caught up and it's as brilliant as I remembered. I've never been a very artsy person, but Blue Period has allowed me to learn so much and to really change my views. The characters are super fun and you can't help but root for them. Specifically, I deeply relate to Yatora's struggles with self-confidence and impostor syndrome. Sometimes it was like the manga spoke directly to me, which is a very rare and precious feeling. Anyway, I'm excited to see this beautiful story grow along with its cast.

various blue period characters in a fight : ̗̀➛
ft. yatora, yotasuke, hashida, yakumo, momo, hacchan, kuwana
Yatora Yaguchi: Never get into fights on purpose. Actually, I don’t think he would ever get into a fight at all. But I imagine that if there was a scenario in which he did, I reckon he would be able to hold his own very well. He seems like he’d throw more punches than kicks and would do pretty good against someone his own size. With a good motive, I think he’d win a lot of fights he gets into, but overall he would usually try to avoid any physical conflict. A real “we don’t need to fight over this” kind of guy.
Takahashi Yotasuke: Sorry but he just gets folded in every fight I see him in. I don’t ever see him winning any physical fight. He definitely can’t fight and will likely just submit and cower or just run away. If he did have any fighting tactics, it would probably be simple things like pushing them. Other than that, any kind of punch or kick he tries to do ranges from weak to completely in-affective.
Haruka Hashida: Bro Hashida looks like he’s got that sleeper build. He actually seems like he’d be surprisingly strong asf. Like I don’t seen him doing anything much himself in a fight, but like if someone tried to throw a punch at him he’d just grab them and wouldn’t let it go. Plus, he’s quite tall so there’s also that. Like Yatora, I don’t think he would ever initiate a fight. He seems more like the person to stop a fight by using his own strength against the person he’s defending. But, if he needs to step in for the person he’s defending, he definitely will.
Murai Yakumo: Aims for the balls when fighting men. He’s such a ball-kicker type of guy. He’s a pretty loud person that a lot of people get annoyed by, so even though he’s never actively seeking a fight, the people who get pissed off by him just feel the urge to punch him. Would never take a fight seriously and would always add those swift quips between throws. Says shit like “you punch like my grandma” before getting his teeth knocked out. If he ever got into a fight, he wouldn’t stop until he’s physically pulled away, knocked out, or he knocks the other person out.
Momoyo Kakinokizaka: Pent-up rage. I can just feel it. She has some bottled up strength that she’s just waiting to release. I sense that she would absolutely go insane in a fight. In my head, she would find some way to knock someone down before climbing on top of them and just giving them an elbow to the face multiple times. Unlike Yatora, she seems like she would seek a physical fight if she thinks it’s necessary. She doesn’t avoid conflict, she just wishes to end it quickly- and if that is through means of violence, then let it be done. When in a fight, anything goes for her. Kicking between the legs, punching in the chest, pulling hair- Nothing is off limits. Everything can be a disadvantage for the opponent.
Kenji Hachiro: Basically the same as Hashida really. Surprising strength. Though, he’s completely against violence and never sees it as an answer. He always pulls his friends away from fights that they get into and will never engage himself, even if he is defending his friend.
Maki Kuwana: Completely a verbal person. The most I’d see her getting into physical contact was if she slapped someone across the face, but I mostly see her being very verbally aggressive. She’s the most verbally aggressive and could totally spit out fifteen insults in ten seconds without stuttering once. Not a physical fight person, but just a very harsh arguing person.
