13. A carrot, because my muse is craving carrot cake, but doesn’t want to bake it themselves. 

From the doorway, Unohana smiled sweetly at the Vizored Captain, the rest of the bunch of carrots hanging from her fingers. A bag hung from her arm.

“You should always be prepared for the unexpected, Captain Muguruma. It doesn’t do you well to be taken by surprise, even if they are healthy ones.”

She placed the bag on the desk, careful to find a free space, then slipped the carrots in with everything else. “If you get a moment, I would very much appreciate it if you could bake a carrot cake for me and Isane-fukutaicho. I’ve heard that you’re quite good at cooking, so this should be a fairly simple task. This should be everything you need, but if there’s anything else, please don’t hesitate to say so!”

The sun was warm and bright, sparkling on the water with the promise of a beautiful spring day. The wind was colder, but lapped at the water in a playful dance that added to the charm of the outing. She had run into Captain Muguruma on her walk, and not one to forego an opportunity, she’d invited the man along.

Although it may have appeared that he wasn’t free to refuse, now that she thought about it.

“How have you been settling back into the Seireitei, Captain? I imagine that with how long you spent in the Land of the Living, adjusting must have been a struggle?”

Dawn had barely broken over the horizon when Tsukishima made his way down to the kitchen. Coffee was the first order of business, and soon the spacious room was filled with the insistent scent. It wasn’t long before his fellow chef followed him into the kitchen, and the ravenet leaned his tall frame against the counter and sipped at his bitter beverage.

“Good morning. There’s more coffee if you want it.” He made a lazy motion towards the pot with one hand. “When you’re ready we can get started. I personally suggest we start with barring the door until we’re finished, but that’s simply my own opinion.” Tsukishima smiled against the rim of his mug, thinking of the family and friends who would no doubt be meandering through their kitchen as the day passed.

"It's nothing, just a scratch."

A chuckle sounded from Tsukishima’s lungs at the denial, watching the slow seep of blood with a raised brow of amused skepticism. “I don’t know, my friend. More scratches like that could very well become quite bothersome.”
