hey! what’s cut & run? it looks interesting and i’ve been thinking about getting into it
ooooh you have knocked on the right door my friend!
cut & run is a book series written by abigail roux and madeleine urban that @kyleraysner got me into reading (and i am so thankful for that). there are 9 books in the main series, and 3 more featuring side characters.
it tells the story of ty grady and zane garrett, two FBI agents who are partnered together on a case and who have to learn how to work together and get over their initial animosity to solve said case.
why you should read cut & run (without spoilers, message me if you want to know more):
the characters are amazing. ty and zane are really well developed, their respective stories and struggles are very compelling. and not only them, but the side characters too (even if we don’t see much of them in the main series). this series has one of the most interesting set of characters i have ever seen. they go through a lot of hardships but they make it out better people, and i got attached to all of them super fast
the plot isn’t overly dense and the writing style isn’t hard to follow.
it deals with some serious issues (like addiction and PTSD) and deals with it right.
it has pretty much every fanfic trope you can think of. every. single. one. (save maybe for soulmate AU but hey, that’s what fic is for). and it does it right. they are incredibly well handled, never falling in the easy cliché area and always pulling a twist on them.
the quote that convinced me to give it a shot: “You told me one time that … I was your compass. I gave you direction when you were lost,” Ty said, nearly choking on the words. He glanced up, eyes reflecting like liquid in the low light. “Well, you were my anchor. You were something solid for me to hold onto. I wanted you to remember that.”
to give you an idea of how good this series is, I read all 12 books within two weeks.
you can buy them online or you can ask me for the pdf files and not spend your money
