Union Health Ministry Convenes Urgent Meeting on Covid Surge in Kerala.
In response to a concerning spike in Covid-19 cases and deaths, particularly in Kerala, the Union Health Ministry, led by Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, conducted a critical review. The focus is on addressing the emergence of the JN.1 sub-variant recently detected in the state. A meeting, attended by key officials including Health Secretary Sudhansh Pant and NITI Aayog's Dr. VK Paul, aimed to strategize against the rising numbers.
Kerala reported 292 new cases and three deaths, elevating the total active cases to 2,041. Despite the surge, State Health Minister Veena George reassured the public, stating that the state is well-prepared to handle the situation. Special facilities for Covid patients and enhanced infrastructure, including isolation wards and oxygen beds, have been directed.
The Centre issued a timely advisory to all states, emphasizing the need for stringent public health measures, especially with the upcoming festive season. The advisory instructs states to monitor and report cases regularly, update health information platforms, and ensure widespread testing. The JN.1 sub-variant, linked to Omicron, has raised nationwide concerns, prompting a proactive response from health authorities.
