“keran’s whole little arc is weirdly effective because it shows how kirkwall breaks people even when they’re not important enough to be main plot. he starts as the missing brother in macha’s quest, ends up the lone surviving victim of a blood mage group trying to turn recruits into abominations, and you can actually step in and push cullen to either keep him in the order or throw him out - both options feel like they’ll ruin his life, just in different ways. and then later, when grace's radical group kidnaps someone close to hawke, keran shows up again like “i didn’t want this, i’ve already lived this nightmare, here’s where they took them,” which made me like him more than i expected. he’s not brave in a dramatic way; he’s just a guy who keeps getting dragged into templar/mage messes and still tries to do one decent thing when it matters.”
