lemme start off by saying that I'm overall cool with the idea of you referencing my design for your tattoo! however i'd like you to leave a lot of room for your chosen tattoo artist to make decisions on how to interpret this! when I designed these wings, I intended for it to look like solid black and dotwork (therefore no gray ink), so if that's an idea you like, find an artist who specializes in black dotwork. personally I don't see much of a reason to draw it up myself, i think the tattoo artist should do that, but I do have some images from when I was solidifying the design. boy i hope you're ready to drop a lot of money on this.
these are based off of the wings of a turkey vulture, with the marginal(?) coverts in black and separated by sparse lines of negative space. the secondary coverts are solid negative space, and the primary flight feathers are gray (dotwork). Originally I intended for there to be some interesting transparency effects in the overlaps in the feathers, but I grew tired of trying to simplify this. in the final design this ends up looking like another layer of dark feathers, which is something I would change if i were to do it again.
the other main thing about my design is the star-shaped negative space on the spine. This was what originally sold me on this particular design, because I had always thought that starting the wings abruptly was too awkward.
