Purple flowers were abundant, but while easier to see amongst dried vegetation (yellow vs green) it's still difficult to capture with a camera (for me, anyhow). Kern was already dry, unlike the rest of the Sierras starting just a few miles north, other than raging river and full lake things already looked brown by Memorial Day: the early rains meant early plants and lots of them - but they have a short life, especially the grasses, which were already a fire hazard and several feet tall. But a lot of flowers were starting to bloom in a second round of life, especially on north-facing slopes and along the roads (joy).
