Loz: And we’re about to talk to Ville and Mige from a band called HIM. Hello fellas!
Ville and Mige: Hello.
L: How’s it going?
M: Pretty good, pretty good.
V: Started to wake up bit by bit after like 4 cans of coca-cola and several cups of coffee.
M: Yeah.
L: That will do it for you. Not exactly a breath enhancer there the 4 cups of coffee – have you got some tic-tacs with you?
M: No, but we’re naked. Does that count on being fresh?
L: Laughs. It doesn’t help you forget about the breath, I guess.
M: Laughs. Yea, that’s what it means technically.
L: How are you both doing? Have you been alright?
M: Yeah, cool beans.
L: Good. I was having some fun on your website and been typing ‘Tears on Tape’
into and then all of a sudden you get a little flash of the new album cover.
V: Oh really? That’s kind of psychedelic, isn’t it?
L: It’s very good – hang on – I wish it would stay on there a bit longer – I keep having a look at it. And there’s a snake bit going around the heartagram. It looks a bit like something that’s come out of Indiana Jones, actually.
V: Oh really?
M: That’s cool. That’s definitely cool.
V: Well, depending which one – is it the second one?
L: Which one is your favorite?
M: Uh. The Kali Ma things – no I kinda prefer the Germans.
L: There’s properly good baddies in that one, aren’t they?
M: That Gestapo guy is awesome.
V: “Fraulein Ravenwood..
V & M: “… your fire is dying.”
All Laughs
M: “Let me show you what I am used to.”
Laughs
L: So what is the significance of the snake going around the heartagram?
M: Well, it’s a symbol of wisdom, am I right?
L: Is it?
V: Well, it could be interpreted as that. This is Rock ‘n Roll.
L: Okay.
V: It was basically the artist, Dan, who painted the cover art. I have him free-range. I was just saying “play around with the idea of the heartagram and take it, hopefully, to a new level of pseudo-occultism."
L: Well, I like it! It’s very good – indeed. So, what brings you to London today?
V: Um. The weather.
M: The weather – yeah.
L: Of Course! That’s why we all flock to London.
M: Of course! We wanted to get some sunshine… and we got it!
L: Is it just you two or is the rest of the band knocking about?
M: Just the two of us talking about ourselves and the band.
L: Do you pull straws as to who gets to go on the travels and do all the promos or
whatever is it or is it just mostly you two? Do you just lay down the law and say “we’re going?”
M: The strongest! There’s a fight club and then you know.. There’s like a thunderdome.
V: Survival of the fittest.
M: There can only be one!
L: Of course!
M: And when only one of us has to go we settle it like that.
Laughs
L: Who would be the Kurgan in HIM, do you think?
All Laugh
L: “Hello Ladies!”
M: I don’t know. There’s many options. I would like to think it would be me but I don’t think I have the charisma.
V: Yeah, well. You can have it.
M: Thanks man. I’ll shave my head right away.
L: He was brilliant though, wasn’t he? As far as Baddies go – he’s one of my favorites.
M: Yeah.
L: Now, what’s this Ville – well, I’ve seen a tweet somewhere saying that you’re getting married?
V: What? Oh, I didn’t know about that. Well, that’s excellent news. Lucky Me.
M: Well, congratulations.
V: Thank you sir! I wonder where it is... or when. Hopefully it’s –
M: Well, you don’t have to attend the wedding.
V: Maybe it’s happening on the stage at Download or something.
M: We live in electric times; you don’t have to attend your own wedding anymore.
V: You can probably do it via App.
M: Yeah yeah, there’s probably a hologram of a priest.
L: Well, I’m just glad to be among the first to congratulate you on this wedding you clearly know nothing about.
V: Yeah, well you know, I do have a problem with alcohol.
All Laugh
M: Promises, promises.
L: Yeah well, that’s how I ended up getting married!
M: Yeah, well okay. I guess it’s all of us!
L: Well, we got the new record coming out, Tears on Tape, When can we expect – at the moment we have the artwork, I’ve got a track I’ve been playing on the show, when can we expect to get the actual record itself?
V: I think it’s coming out the 29th or 28th –
M: of April.
V: Yes. Well, at the end of the day, it’s late April. There’s going to be a single I think – We just shot a video, No wait, we’re actually going to shoot a video for it – for the song, “All Lips Go Blue.”
M: Yeah, true.
V: Yeah, so that will be the first official single for the U.K. and also in the U.S. It’s a bit of a confusing situation, there’s different singles in different territories.
L: It does – it gets very confusing, it’s all happening. Well, it’s been nice to talk to you and I gather actually that you’re going to be handpicking some music for us all this week which is nice – some of your personal favorites – so thank you for doing that. And here’s your new single, this is HIM with All Lips Turn Blue. Thanks guys.
V: Great. Thanks.
