@kesdax: Oh yeah absolutely - your point about it being different, not better. Dark doesn't always = better. Honestly, I prefer a show/piece of media that can give it all: dark, gritty moments when necessary, but fun and light stuff too. It's a balance that's difficult to achieve and why sometimes it feels like shows like Voyager aren't living up to its potential. Doesn't mean I don't love it though
Voyager and its potential is such a complicated topic for me -- its kind of like when fellow Voyager fans say it didn't live up to its potential, I get it. But if Voyager haters say it I get defensive!
But also, the Voyager writers would agree about not living up to potential, former Voyager writers have been on record on saying how much they wanted to swing for the fences but every time both the network and Rick Berman would beat them down until they kind of stopped pushing. By the time Ron Moore arrived on Voyager as a writer, Braga's fully bought into Berman's thinking, by the time season 7 happened all the writers were checked out.
And Ken Biller, as Bryan Fuller, in his many spill-the-tea moments in Trek Briefing Room podcast claimed was a corporate guy who had no problem repeating the company line.
It's honestly amazing we get good stories from all the bts drama.
