The irritation I feel every single time I see someone, or in our world or in theirs, minimize and ignore the huge amount of trauma Kevin Day went through is all time consuming.

Like how can you baby the other characters and fight for their happiness and then metaphorically spit in his face. As if he went through nothing. As if he wasn't in the same place Jean was for even more time.

Like what do you think he did? Played monopoly while getting a wonderful tan? He was abused, humiliated and manipulated too. Canonically, he went through a huge amount of direct psychological and emotional abuse. Canonically, he was beaten and went through physical abuse too. And, seeing as we don't have anything in his pov, we will never truly know what that place did or did not do to him.

You can't acknowledge only the pain of the ones you hold dear (in the real or fictional world btw).
