In the humid, tropical atmosphere of the Waterlily House at the Royal Botanic Garden Kew, London, the Aristolochia gigantea (giant Dutchman's pipe, Brazilian Dutchman's pipe or giant pelican flower) was flowering. This is a vigorous, evergreen twining climber with heart-shaped leaves and reddish-purple flowers with intricate cream mottling, and an unpleasant smell to attract pollinating flies. This species is native to humid forested areas from Costa Rica and Panama to Brazil.

Just spent the last 4 hours bathing half of my plants collection because I have what looks like an ever delightful spider mite infestation. Seems small enough that I can manage it but just seems everywhere at the same time. Annoyed that it's on the majority of my favourites as well.

Here's a pic of the last time I visited Kew Gardens so I can pretend I'm there rather than here with all my problems.
