Thanks! Yeah, I’ve just been thinking about this a lot lately because a friend of mine has been suffering so much in her relationships with men. I can see how hurt she is by all these terrible experiences, and it makes me wish I could protect her. Our conversations just make me see all the feminist ideas play out in the real world since I haven’t dated in a long time and don’t interact with men that much. The harm feminists talk about men inflicting on women is very real–especially for women who are vulnerable due to past trauma or low self-esteem.

There’s so much onus on women to protect themselves…but what about those who CAN’T due to mental health or disabilities? I think feminist discourse can be healing because you realize all this blame and responsibility you’ve been carrying around isn’t yours and you can sit it where it belongs: on men and patriarchy. It doesn’t solve the problem since we can’t snap our fingers and change how things are, of course, but at least seeing the truth is validating and helps us move through the world with more clarity and confidence.
