My DWI Story
I woke up with my head on the passenger side door.
"Ma'am where you wearing your seatbelt?" an EMT asked me through the window.
"Yeah. I'm ok. I'm just gonna go home." I said sitting up and scooting over to the drivers seat. It took me several trues to sit up.
I saw the airbag deployed and was so drunk I tried to push it back into the steering wheel. I also didn't register the blood was from me.
It was at that point I looked up.
My truck had hit a huge pine tree. That was when I blacked out again.
The next thing I remember was a brief minute in the ambulance when I told the EMT that I was going to "Beat the life out of him" if he stuck his hands under my shirt again.
Between the hospital and jail it was a blur. Xrays, blood samples for alcohol, my urine showed .36 bac. Waffles at 6am served by a trusty but I didn't even try to eat. I could barely move my jaw at all.
I was still bleeding when I went to see the judge that morning for my bond hearing. He looked up after reading me some bullshit and stopped suddenly.
"You where in a wreak?" It was a question and a statement.
I nodded my head and mumbled the best yes I could. I could barely talk.
Two days later I finally realized how bad I had wreaked.
I had bent the steering column when my truck hit the tree... That's why my chest still hurt me to breathe or move.
I had cracked my windshield with my head... That was the reason I had a huge bump on my head and terrible headaches.
Another memory came back to me: I woke up with my face on my dash and pressure from my steering wheel in my lower chest that was holding me up there. My truck was still revving and I looked around dazed and saw the tree. I crawled over to the passenger side to crawl out but never made it, I passed back out.
My brother in law who is a cop said the only reason I'm alive is because I was limp and passed out when I hit. I was so drunk I didn't know what was happening.
Despite what I told the EMT and Trooper who arrested me... there's was no way I was wearing my seatbelt.
I fucked my whole life with a two hour drinking session of Cruzan 151 Rum. The 8 drinks I had equalled 16 standards alcoholic beverages.
I was lucky to be alive.
Other than the soreness from the wreak, I showed no signs of a hangover.
This alcoholic can't drink anymore.
