I really want to get into wrestling. It looks like big dumb fun. But I still feel lost. Peacock subscription makes it easy to watch the matches and all that but the shit that draws me in is the metafictional aspects of kfabe. Do we actually hate this guy or are we being sold a person to hate and what difference does it even make? Keeping up with news about these people's real lives so I can know a bit about why they make such wild on the mic proclamations or in the ring decisions. It's off putting but I'm gonna keep trying to understand it all. There's a rich vein of meta storytelling and I'm super interested. There's a wild history of bad behavior and worse management and incredible storylines and I'm fascinated. There's lore. There are heroes. There are villains. And it seems overwhelming...but hopefully it'll be worth it in the end.
