shiro hadn't expected keith to remember, much less get him something.
shiro started at the black box in confusion and slight happiness.
'書道' was shown in the middle of the box, in large black ink. he recognized it immediately. it was a calligraphy set, called shodō. shiro use to have one when he lived in japan when he was five and still used it when keith came around when it was almost time for shiro to leave for the garrison.
"keith-"
"it's similar to the one you had when we lived in japan.. i know it's not the exact one, this one is alittle more upgraded and look! it has more pens than your old one and-"
shiro chuckled, reaching forward go place a hand on keith's shoulder.
"i love it, keith."
keith smiled.
"good, because then i would have punched you if you didn't."
shiro laughed, squeezing keith's shoulder as he did. they walked out of the training room together.
"where did you find this anyway?" shiro asked as they stepped into the dinning hall. keith scratched the back of his neck.
"i had lance talk allura into letting us go to the space mall again. we managed to find that earth store again and i saw that and well.."
shiro smiled, nudging keith with his arm. he looked back down at the box again.
"really, keith, thank you."
"of course, you've always been there for me." keith mutters, shiro chuckles bringing his arm around keith's neck, messing up his hair a bit.
and that won't change, shiro thought as they met the others in the kitchen for a surprise cake hunk made for him.
