I just wanna say. I know we emphasize the "thank namine" plotline a lot, but sora did make another actual PINKY PROMISE with namine, which is that he'll find her again when he wakes up and then they'll be friends for real. so we're actually waiting on TWO namine promises to follow up on in future games

last time they talked in KH3 iirc was in the final world and the heart station scene. namine has come back and it's not like they're not friends, but it's not a real resolution to this promise methinks. idk if nomura will drop this plotline and handwave it in the future, or if we'll get a real resolution in the future with the same weight as the "thank namine" plotline (they'll probably resolve both in one go). but it's a pinky promise. a promise is a promise!! I am holding you to this, nomura!!!

Ok. I did not realize that all my disney duck knowledge would make watching the cutscenes for KH:COM this distressing.

I just-Donald is so anxious about losing his memories, and I’m sitting here like “Oh, he probably not just his twin,parents and other dead family, but anyone he hasn’t managed to lose yet”...

#mine musings #liveblogging kh #CHAIN OF MEMORIES IS SOOOO GOOD #but man. man. namine and sora in this game are just so great #i love namine so much. i love sora so much #namine's memory hacking is one of my favorite concepts in kh like yeah we have bodyhopping and sora being a heart hotel #there's dream eaters and time travel #but namine unlinking chains of memories to insert herself... because she was lonely... and the way sora reponds like #“the memories weren't real but i'd still keep you safe anyway” like he's soooo sweet :(#“who needs false memories when you have real ones?” aughhh. namine :(#“i was never sora's friend” / “and you were never anything more than that either” is suuuuch an interesting exchange #like man the amount of stuff sora just buries in his mind and doesn't unpack. soraaaaaa #and this isn't even getting into the repliku stuff (i love repliku)#or riku's side of the story #“it's the road to dawn” like ugh that's PEAK kingdom hearts line right there #“i don't have to be real to know your feelings are real” PEAK PEAK. YOU SAY IT REPLIKU #it's just a great game. all four characters are well developed. introduces interesting villains and the concept of chains of memories #and it has lasting repercussions that we're still seeing 20y later #i love com soooooo much #kh: my witch #kh: com

I'm watching chain of pronouns and idk if the phrasing in birth by sleep was intentional but it sure is neat.

the amount of stuff sora just Does Not Remember about riku though... (and we're not even getting into the meteor shower and the KH3 sacrifice)

the ending is so interesting because namine likens the un-remembered promise to the good luck charm that sora was already able to recognize. but ultimately, I think the good luck charm isn't related to the promise. because if sora was able to recognize the charm and return it to its original form, and the promise was "chained"/linked/associated to that charm, then he should've already remembered the promise namine was talking about.

I think it's popular opinion in the necklace theory that the charm was supposed to be the crown necklace, but I think it's a red herring. the charm already changed to the wayfinder charm when sora remembered. so it's not related to the meteor shower memory. it's supposed to serve as an example of what could happen if he remembers the promise namine said he forgot. imo!

so chain of memories (a game released in 2004) promises us a "thank namine" scene and that there's a precious promise that's waiting to be remembered, because doing so will unlock everything else sora has hidden in the shadows of his heart. okaaayyyy. okay okay okay. okay.
