Petroleum Jelly also known as Vaseline is widely used to moisturise chapped lips and skin and has become a household staple over the years. It works by creating a sealant between cells in damaged skin which then locks in moisture and helps the skin to recover faster. There are so many other uses for Vaseline too, keep reading to find out :).
Here are my ten ways to make use of Vaseline, these are in no particular order:
1. Treat Your Split Ends and Dry Hair
Dry hair is more prone to breakage and split ends which further delay hair growth. Try wetting the ends of your hair and massaging in some Vaseline to the tips - this will lock in the moisture. You can do this on dry hair too which will give it some much deserved shine!
*Top Tip* - Have a trim every few months to get rid of any split ends, this way your hair will grow faster.
2. Grow Thicker Lashes and Eyebrows
Take some Vaseline onto a spoolie (mascara wand) and comb through your lashes and brows. Do this every night before going to bed and overtime you should see a difference. You must be patient as this can take weeks/months depending on the individual. I have seen a difference with this and with using Castor Oil too (blog post coming soon).
3. Reduce The Appearance Of Stretch Marks
Vaseline is great for moisturising and mixing this with some aloe vera gel and massaging it into your skin can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and uneven skin. Moisturising is the KEY to smooth soft skin, always.
4. Make Perfume Last Longer
Apply a thin layer of Vaseline onto your wrists/pulse points, neck etc and spray your perfume on top. This will make your perfume last a LOT longer.
5. Tame Your Brows
Using a spoolie comb through your brows with Vaseline to keep them in place. You can do this after applying your brow product or before if you’re not using anything on your eyebrows.
6. Reduce Under Eye Bags, Wrinkles and Dryness
Mix Vaseline with some lemon juice and apply under eyes - leave this on for a couple of hours or overnight. Lemon juice will help lighten your dark circles and the Vaseline will help moisturise the skin under your eyes to prevent dryness and make the skin more plump. I have been applying Vaseline to help with my under eye wrinkles (how do i even have these?!?!?!) I feel it has been helping and due to it being a thick product it also acts as a primer.
7. Removal of Tight Jewellery
This is mostly used for removing bangles or rings that are too tight. It works wonders! Just apply a thin layer onto the skin and slide out your bangles/ring without making your skin red and irritated.
8. Make Flaky Skin Soft Again
Flaky skin can be super annoying and hard to get rid of depending on how stubborn it is. Vaseline is so good to help make your skin soft and moisturised again! It can also be used on scabs and cuts to help them heal faster, although its not an antiseptic it will prevent germs entering which can cause infections if they do. You can use this all over your face too and your hands to keep them soft. Some people prefer not to use it all over their face as its quite sticky but it works great if you dont mind how it feels!
9. Remove Eye Makeup
If you ever run out of eye makeup remover or oil this is a great alternative to removing your eye makeup!
10. DIY Lip Scrub
Do you want soft, chapped free lips but dont want to spend money on lip scrubs? Well you can make your own! Mix Vaseline with some brown sugar and exfoliate your lips. Scrub your lips using circular motions or you can even use a toothbrush. Wipe this off and apply your lip balm/lip product! Having smooth lips will make your lipstick look and feel so much better. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Please remember these wont always work for everyone as we all have different skin types/hair texture etc! And it requires time and patience to see a difference with most products so just be patient :).
