The Kingdom Hearts Level 1 Experience (KH1/Part 2)
Sep 9
Today, I’m continuing my journey through what’s most likely a bad idea, but I’m too stubborn to see the signs. I’m back to doing KH1 Proud Level 1 and it’s been an ordeal…
Starting off in Monstro, crawling through this disgusting whale has shown me that it is NOT worth getting all of the treasures if you’re pressed for time. The enemies in KH1 are very unforgiving (looking at you air soldiers and bandits) and with this being the first game and all, you don’t have a lot of movement or abilities at your disposal. I wasted 10 minutes trying to clear a room out just so that I could attempt to get a chest. Spoiler alert: I didn’t. On the bright side, I managed to defeat both Parasite Cage fights first try! Not too many people can say that.
As a little side note, I don’t think this run would be possible if it weren’t for the pseudo-Second Chance that the Zero EXP ability gives you. Maybe I’ll make a post later showing how much of an impact Second Chance and Once More have in the KH games because it’s quite the big one that we all take for granted. With that, back to the pain and misery…
I decided that it would be a good idea to go to Atlantica next (bad idea). I just wanted to get the swimming bit over with and get that nice thunder upgrade. I actually didn’t get lost this time and got to the Crystal Trident part easily and take the next steps to get to Ursula. You’ll never guess what gave me trouble besides Ursula.
Yeah. Him.
I have obviously not been used to fighting in KH1 because I thought that close quarters combat on Level 1 was a stupendous idea. It didn’t help that I was underwater and moved slower than a Large Body and kept confusing the up and down buttons and forget that magic other than cure is a thing and… you get the point. I died 8 times to this stupid shark. Once I finally took him down, I was in shock because I KILLED HIM AT THE WRONG TIME! Turns out that I defeated him BEFORE putting the Crystal Trident in and when I came back to press the button to get to Ursula’s lair, I had to beat him AGAIN in order to press it. Luckily I didn’t die at all the second time I had to fight him so I was able to move on to the Ursula fights. There’s still time to die more to them. And I did.
I'd have to say that the first fight against Ursula was the harder fight. Now that I think about it, that seems to be the trend that fights in small rooms with multiple targets (believe me, we'll get to that next week if you know who I'm talking about) being hard to fight in. The number of hits it seemed to take to stun Ursula by flinging magic at the cauldron seemed to keep changing which got really annoying. Eventually I got it and moved to Ursula II. I think if I didn't have as many elixirs as I did, my winning attempt would likely be about 10 minutes long and thank God it wasn't.
And that's where I stopped for the week. Time to move on to the death counter! And I actually documented what I died to this time so no guessing!
Worlds Completed: Monstro, Atlantica
Total Deaths: 65
Deaths This Week: 29
Most Died-To Fight: Ursula I (10 deaths)
But that ends this week's progress. I wasn't able to do as much as I've been wanting to, but I at least got a couple of worlds done. I'm thinking Monday's post might be about a fanmade event challenge going on in the month of September that I haven't been able to mention yet!
If anyone has any topics or strategies that they want me to talk about in the future, feel free to let me know either in the comments or in the suggestions tab! I've sort of been doing my own thing with this so far, but I wouldn't mind having some dedicated posts in the future. With that said, look forward to the next post and I'll see you all then!
